Logan sat back in his chair, quietly observing the laughter, chatter, and sparkle of the grand hall. The Sullivan family’s wealth dripped from every chandelier and golden-rimmed glass, from the embroidered silk curtains to the marble floors polished so clean they reflected the lights like rippling water.

But none of it impressed him.

He wasn’t moved by the way he was being treated—not by the distant looks, not by the servants’ hesitant gestures, and not by the way he had been seated near the back, far from the main family table.

After all, Logan knew who he was.

He didn’t need their validation.

Charlotte sat beside him, her hands resting in her lap, trying to look composed even as her eyes betrayed her discomfort. Across the hall, Barbara had been ushered to a seat near the front, beside the cousins and sons-in-law who were showered with attention. Laughter floated around her table, glasses clinking as the elite of the family exchanged compliments and jokes.

Logan’s table, by contrast

Barbara continued, “Damien Blackwell has offered to help. He’s a wealthy man—generous and well-connected. If you agree to marry him, he’ll ensure Chloe receives the best treatment money can buy.”For a long moment, Charlotte didn’t move. The words didn’t make sense. Then her lips parted. “Mother… are you still saying I should divorce my husband?”Barbara met her gaze evenly. “If that’s what it takes.”The silence that followed was deafening. Even the ticking of the clock seemed to stop.Charlotte’s fingers trembled as she rose to her feet. Her voice shook when she spoke, but her eyes burned with disbelief. “That’s the most wicked, insensitive thing I’ve ever heard you say!”Barbara arched a brow, unfazed. “Don’t be dramatic. I’m thinking about your child’s life.”“No,” Charlotte snapped, her voice growing louder. “You’re thinking about money—about appearances, about your precious social circles. You’re not thinking about Chloe, and you’re certainly not thinking about me.”Logan took

“I know what can save her,” Logan told Charlotte, his voice quieter now but charged with a strange conviction that made her stomach twist. “I saw it.”Charlotte frowned, uncertain whether to fear or believe him. The flickering light from the lamp painted uneven shadows across his face, deepening the lines that grief and exhaustion had carved there. “You… saw it?” she asked hesitantly, her tone trembling between disbelief and a fragile hope she was too afraid to trust. He nodded once, his gaze steady and unblinking. “The Aetheris Herb.”For a long, drawn-out moment, Charlotte said nothing. The air seemed to thicken around them, stretching taut with tension. Then she exhaled sharply, almost as if someone had struck her.“The Aetheris Herb? Logan—no.” She shook her head, stepping back slightly. Her voice rose in disbelief, cracking under the weight of fear. “That plant is a legend. A myth told to desperate men. It’s said to grow on Mount Kavoris—no one goes there. It’s forbidden. Eve

Chloe’s eyes fluttered open weakly as Logan carried her through the front door and into the guest room. Her frail body trembled beneath the soft blankets wrapped tightly around her. Though the doctors had used the word “stable,” there was nothing stable about the way she looked. Her lips were pale, her breathing shallow, and her fingers twitched every few seconds as if she were fighting something unseen—something determined to pull her away from the world she still clung to.Charlotte followed close behind, her heart twisting painfully at the sight. Barbara stood frozen in the doorway, tears already gathering in her eyes. For a long moment, no one spoke. Only the faint hum of the ceiling fan filled the silence, slicing through the tension like a whisper.“Lay her down gently,” Charlotte murmured, her voice trembling.Logan nodded without speaking. He moved with steady precision, lowering Chloe onto the freshly made bed as though she were made of glass. When he brushed a strand o

Logan didn’t look back once.He had faced the Sullivan family head-on, endured their sneers and arrogance, and drawn a line no one had ever dared to draw before. But as they crossed the long driveway and reached their car, a strange heaviness pressed against his chest—not pride, but a quiet, aching dread. The kind that always came after standing one’s ground in a losing war.He opened the door for Charlotte, but before he could climb in beside her, his phone began to vibrate in his pocket. He frowned, fishing it out. The name flashing on the screen made his heart tighten.Duskwatch General Hospital. He hesitated for only a second before answering. “Hello?”A woman’s voice came through, polite but weary. “Mr. Logan? I’m calling from St Brielle Hospital. It’s about Miss Chloe.”Charlotte’s eyes flicked toward him immediately, her expression tensing.Logan’s voice hardened. “What happened to her?”There was a brief pause on the other end. “Sir,” the nurse said carefully, “the doctors h

The hall was dead silent—so silent that even the faint hum of the chandelier seemed deafening. Damien lay on the marble floor, clutching his arm and groaning in pain. His expensive suit was creased, his composure shattered. The great heir of the Blackwell family—the man who had strutted in with arrogance and entitlement—was now curled up like a wounded animal at Logan’s feet.Gasps filled the room. Some were of disbelief, others of outrage. The Sullivans, known for their control and refinement, now looked like a nest of hissing serpents disturbed by an intruder.Charlotte stood frozen beside Logan, her heart racing wildly. She hadn’t expected him to act—but he had, swiftly and decisively. She saw the fire in his eyes, the calm, unyielding strength that always surfaced when someone dared to disrespect her. For a moment, she couldn’t even breathe.Across the table, Felix Sullivan shot to his feet, his chair clattering backward. His face flushed red, his voice cutting through the air l

From the far end of the grand dining table, one of Charlotte’s cousins—Harold Sullivan—rose abruptly, his chair screeching across the marble floor like nails against glass. The movement drew all eyes to him. His face was flushed with indignation, and his tailored suit seemed to strain against the tension in his broad shoulders. He looked every inch the entitled heir of an old-money family, the kind of man who had never once been told “no” in his life.“You think you can just walk out after talking to my aunt that way?” Harold barked, his voice echoing through the cavernous hall.Logan turned slowly, his expression carved from stone. The flickering light from the chandelier above caught the faint outline of his jaw, tense but calm. He didn’t flinch.Charlotte, standing beside him, felt her heartbeat thudding painfully in her chest. She knew that tone from the Sullivans—knew it meant danger.“Come, Charlotte,” Logan said, his voice low but steady. “We’ve wasted enough time here.”He
