Logan glanced at the ivory-colored envelope Charlotte had just handed him.

The faint shimmer of gold tracing its edges hinted at something grand—something that reeked of old money, legacy, and the kind of prestige that always made him uncomfortable.

His brows furrowed slightly as he turned it over in his hand. The Sullivan family crest—an embossed lion standing on its hind legs—caught the light.

“What’s this for?” he asked, his tone calm but tinged with curiosity.

Charlotte smiled faintly, though her voice carried the careful formality she used whenever family was involved.

“It’s an invitation,” she said, walking closer to where he sat. “Aunt Joyce is hosting her eighty-sixth birthday celebration this weekend.”

“Joyce?” Logan repeated, unfamiliar with the name.

“Yes,” Charlotte said, lowering herself onto the couch beside him.

“Grandma Sullivan’s elder sister. She’s been standing in for Grandma since she passed away. The family considers her the matriarch now.”

Chloe’s eyes snapped open as sunlight streamed through the sheer curtains of her room. The hospital visit had left her restless, and the quiet of the house made her impatience even more acute. She turned her head toward Logan, who was sitting beside her chair, quietly scanning through a folder of papers for work, his brow furrowed in concentration, and Charlotte, who was fussing with a stack of medical documents, carefully aligning them and rechecking each page as if the order could somehow keep Chloe safe.“Water,” Chloe said firmly, her voice a little hoarse but laced with authority. “I want a cup of water.”Logan immediately rose from his seat, his movements precise and unhesitating. Without a word, he walked toward the kitchen, leaving Charlotte to brush Chloe’s hair back from her flushed forehead. Moments later, he returned, holding a glass of water. He placed it carefully in Chloe’s hand with his fingers brushing hers lightly.Chloe took a sip, savoring the cool liquid as if

The door to the corridor eased open, and Barbara stepped inside. Her expression was unreadable. Her eyes, sharp as polished glass, caught the faint glow of the herb and seemed to harden with suspicion. Her lips pressed into a tight, disapproving line. Yet beneath the mask of composure, there was something else in her gaze—curiosity, envy, and disbelief all tangled into one cold, assessing stare.“I heard everything,” she said flatly, her voice slicing through the quiet.Charlotte turned in surprise, her brows knitting together. “Mother—”Barbara ignored her, advancing a few slow steps toward the table. “You said you went to the mountain,” she began. “The same mountain no man has ever returned from alive. The same cursed place people call the tomb of fools. And yet here you stand—breathing, whole, holding the very herb said to grow only at its peak.”Logan looked up briefly, his expression calm and eyes steady. “That’s correct,” he said simply.Barbara crossed her arms.“And you e

The climb had drained nearly everything from Logan—his strength, his warmth, and the rhythm of his breath—but at last, the mountain surrendered. One final step, one final heave of will, and he was standing on the summit of Blood Peak. For a moment, he just stood there in silence. The sky stretched endlessly above, streaked with silver clouds that glowed against the pale sun. The biting cold that had clawed at him throughout the ascent began to fade, replaced by a strange, tranquil warmth that radiated from the ground itself. He looked around—and froze.Spread before him was not the barren, death-soaked landscape he had expected, but a garden—a vast, shimmering expanse of life. Verdant vines crawled across the rocks, flowering plants bloomed in impossible colors, and the air was thick with the scent of earth and blossoms. Streams of golden mist weaved between the leaves, sparkling in the sunlight as though the mountain itself exhaled magic. Logan’s breath caught in his throat. He

The air grew colder and sharper—laden with mist that clung to Logan’s clothes and hair. His pulse throbbed unevenly, the poison from the snakebite surging through his veins like fire and ice intertwined. His leg trembled beneath him, and his vision wavered in and out of focus. The jagged rocks beneath his boots glistened with frost, and somewhere below, the rumble of the giants’ laughter shook the mountain. They had seen it happen—the serpent’s strike, the flash of pain twisting across Logan’s face.“The mountain has judged him!” one bellowed gleefully, its voice echoing like thunder through the cliffs. “Even the creatures of Blood Peak rise against him!”“Finish him!” another roared, its growl splitting the mist. “The mortal bleeds! The poison will soften his flesh before we devour it!”The three giants surged upward, their enormous hands clawing into the rocks, crushing them like dry soil. Their molten-gold eyes gleamed through the fog like twin suns, hateful and unblinking. One

“Look at him,” the giant rumbled, voice echoing like rolling thunder. It pushed itself up on one elbow, glaring down at the human before it. “The proud mortal who dared defy the guardians of Blood Peak… now lies broken at our feet.”Another, still clutching the deep dent in his chest where Logan’s Iron Hand had struck, let out a low, mocking laugh. “Let’s end him now. The mountain will drink his blood for the insult he’s brought.”The third one, with skin like dark granite and eyes burning like twin embers, grinned wickedly. His sharp fangs glinted beneath the fog-diffused moonlight. “A fitting end for a fool who thought he could challenge us.”The three behemoths began to move, slow but deliberate, their massive frames stirring the air with every shift. Pebbles tumbled down the slope, and the ground quaked beneath their weight.Logan clenched his jaw and dragged himself to his feet. Pain shot through his ribs with every breath, and his knees threatened to buckle, but the image of

As Logan approached the next pass, the air thickened and grew heavier, pressing against his lungs like an unseen weight. The crisp mountain scent of pine and moss that had guided him earlier now turned metallic — tainted by the faint tang of blood mixed with the scent of wet earth. The wind whistled sharply between jagged rocks, and the once-narrow trail opened into a wide plateau scattered with enormous stones. Each one was etched with strange symbols that glowed faintly with a pulsing crimson light, as if the mountain itself breathed with some ancient, restless energy.Logan slowed his steps, scanning the terrain carefully. His instincts whispered danger, and his heart thudded steadily in his chest. Then, the ground trembled.A low, guttural growl rolled through the mountain’s belly. Logan froze, watching as three colossal shadows emerged from the thick, swirling mist ahead. Slowly, the creatures took shape — monstrous giants, each easily three times the height of a man. Their
