Valerian quickly cupped her face in his hands, desperately trying to make her look at him.

"Crystal, I'm not joking. Mom is dead. She died from poison!"

She shoved his hands away at once, shaking her head in disbelief.

"Please, don't say that!" Her voice cracked, and her trembling fingers clutched his shirt. "What do you mean Mom is dead? You told me she was fine! You promised me she was getting better!"

"They called me from the hospital and told me she had died, Crystal. Please, calm down."

Valerian's eyes flickered across his phone screen, and a frown creased his forehead when he saw Reyna's name. He slid his finger across the screen and brought the phone to his ear."Yes, I can hear you.""Please, I need you to come to the company right away," Reyna said urgently. "Madam Minerva is having one of her episodes, and this time, it's quite severe."Before Valerian could ask a single question, the call abruptly ended. He stared at the screen for a moment before shutting his eyes, an inexplicable sensation tightening in his chest. He couldn't quite understand why the news unsettled him, especially when Minerva had been deliberately avoiding him lately."Please, take a turn and head to Vallencourt Company," he instructed the taxi driver.Meanwhile, Minerva sat among the board members in the conference room, her gaze fixed on the presentation displayed on the screen before her. One of the executives was explaining the figures, outlining the company's latest projections and prop

  • CHAPTER 58 - ONE STEP CLOSER

"It's completely normal. Don't panic," Valerian said, unfazed. As he had anticipated, Kael was expelling the toxic substance that had accumulated in his body. The black liquid was evidence of how severely the poison had affected him, but the fact that his body was reacting to the treatment gave Valerian hope that he hadn't arrived too late.Anthony crouched beside his son, his face contorted with anxiety as he watched the horrifying spectacle. Kael continued vomiting, expelling a considerable quantity of black liquid that splashed onto the floor."Is he going to remain like this?" Anthony asked, his voice trembling with apprehension. "Look at how much he's vomiting!""Just a few more minutes. It will stop soon," Valerian assured him, his attention fixed on Kael.Gradually, the boy's appearance began to change. His previously pallid complexion regained some color, and the hollow look that had made him appear so terribly ill started to fade. Even as he continued vomiting, there were not

  • CHAPTER 57 - THE HEIDDEN POISON

"What do you mean?" Anthony asked, clearly dumbfounded. His brows furrowed as he stared at Valerian, struggling to comprehend the revelation."You're telling me my son has been poisoned? How is that even possible? He's been under medical supervision for three years, and not a single doctor discovered anything!"Valerian offered no immediate explanation. Instead, his eyes swept across the room, scrutinizing his surroundings with an intensity that suggested he was searching for something specific. If Oakplum was responsible for the boy's deteriorating condition, there was a possibility that its source was somewhere within the estate. He rose from the bed and walked toward the back of the door, examining the area before moving toward the window. His gaze traveled across the furniture and decorations, searching for anything that appeared suspicious or out of place. Then, his eyes settled on the table.A faint smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. Flowers.Several arrangements of beautif

  • CHAPTER 56 - OAKPLUM POISON

Valerian arrived at the estate, and just as he had anticipated, the premises were heavily guarded by security personnel. However, two men dressed in suits caught his attention as they stood outside the gate, their eyes scanning the surroundings as though searching for someone. Valerian assumed at once they were looking for him.He stepped out of the taxi, paid the driver, and approached the gate, his expression remaining indifferent despite the curiosity their presence aroused."Are you Mr. Lodge?" one of the men asked, scrutinizing his face.Valerian nodded, and the man gestured for him to follow at once."Please, this way, Mr. Lodge. My master has been expecting you."Without wasting time, Valerian followed them into the mansion. The interior was as magnificent as he had expected, with exquisite furnishings and polished floors that reflected the owner's wealth. However, he barely had time to appreciate the grandeur surrounding him.His attention remained fixed on the reason for his

  • CHAPTER 55 - LAID TO REST

  • CHAPTER 54 - Minerva Crash Out

Thanks to the medicine Valerian had administered, Crystal had eventually fallen asleep. Unlike earlier, when her body temperature had been alarmingly high, it had now returned to normal, easing some of the anxiety that had been gnawing at him.Valerian carefully rose from the bed and strode toward the window, slipping his hands into his pockets as he stared at the sprawling city beyond the mansion. However, his attention was far from the magnificent skyline, his thoughts drifting back to Keeya. How could Keeya kill his mother without the slightest mercy? Had the woman he once loved truly become so ruthless, or was there something else behind her actions? Why had she suddenly changed? Had she been planning all this while, or had her betrayal only begun during his years in prison? His jaw clenched as a bitter ache settled in his chest."You ruined me," he murmured, cupping his face in his hands, overwhelmed by the betrayal and anguish threatening to consume him.Suddenly, the bedr
