Beyond Control
Damien instantly shoved Nicholas back, simultaneously, his guards moved in, holding Nicholas and Chloe against the wall. With a smug smile, Damien commanded his men, “Start packing up their things.” His eyes trailed the stairs as he spoke. “Upstairs first. I want to make sure they haven't destroyed anything. These are all SRI properties now.” by Walking past an ugly crying Eleanor and a cursing Nicholas, Damien headed straight for the master bedroom. Walking straight into Chloe's room; the room they used to share while they were married. Damien felt a little pang and instantly dismissed the emotion. With precision, he began to look through the room, and the wardroom. Scanning the content of the room. Suddenly, his eyes caught a small, wooden box that seemed hidden under a pile of scarves. Damien scoffed, if someone meant to hide the box or its content, they didn't do a good job of it. Bending down, he took the box from beneath the pile and opened it. Inside, he found a journal, and a single faded ultrasound picture. Damien froze. And then picked up the picture, his eyes going straight to the date, and saw that it was dated a month after he went to prison. ‘Our Little Miracle’ was written on the back in Chloe's cursive handwriting. With furrowed brows, he opened the journal, his eyes scanning the cursive handwriting. ‘Damien is gone. Nicholas says he will help out if I marry him, but he doesn't want to be a father to a bastard.” Damien noticed a spot that carried dried tears, swallowing hard, he continued perusing the write-up. ‘I need help, and so there is only one thing I can do, it will be hard but I must. I have to…” The rest of the page was torn. Damien’s eyes widened, his heart racing fast against his rib. Rapidly blinking, he flipped the remaining pages of the journal only to find it empty. Without words. His mind was in a jumble, in turmoil. His mind raced with different thoughts. What is this? Where was the rest? What had Chloe done? A child? This child, and this journal, what exactly is the message? “AAAHHHHH!" Before Damien could process his thoughts, a loud piercing scream erupted from downstairs. Discarding the journal, Damien immediately bolted from the room. He practically flew down the stairs. Reaching the foyer, he stopped dead in his tracks. His guards were standing back, their faces pale. Nicholas was slumped in a corner, his head recoiled, his eyes wide and mouth agape. At the center of the room, Chloe collapsed on the floor. She was clutching her stomach, her dress soaked in a deep terrifying red. Blood was pooling on the floor, spreading fast. Chloe's eyes locked on Damien, her eyes filled with pain that he had never seen before. "D-Damien” she gasped weakly, raising her hand to grasp for him. "H-help..please…the baby” Damien momentarily frozen stared at the blood. His mind is in an utter mess. In the center of the room, Chloe was collapsed on the floor. Chapter 12
The Drunken SovereignThe penthouse was as quiet as a grave. For three days, the massive doors had stayed locked. Inside, the air was thick with the smell of alcohol and the heavy silence of a man who didn't want to be found. Damien sat on the edge of a chair, his head hanging low.The room was pitch black, save for the tiny, blinking green light on a router in the corner. On the glass table in front of him sat that faded ultrasound picture. It looked like small, harmless things, but to Damien, they were bombs that had gone off in his hands.A key turned in the lock and the heavy front door swung open, hitting the wall with a dull thud."Damien?"It was Amelia. Her voice was steady, but there was a hint of anger in it. She didn't wait for him to answer as she marched across the room, her heels clicking on the floor. Without a word, she reached out and gripped the edge of the heavy curtains, and with one violent tug, she ripped them open. The Sun brightened the room immediately, hitti

The Ghost of MercyThe hallway was filled with the smell of cleaning chemicals and a silence that felt heavy enough to choke on. Damien stood near the doors, his eyes fixed on nothing in particular. He looked down at his hands, and for a second, he couldn't breathe. They were covered in red. It was thick, sticky, and starting to dry into a dark color under his fingernails; this was Chloe’s blood. It was the blood of the woman who had stood by and watched him get dragged to prison, the woman who had replaced him the moment he was out of sight. He didn't feel sad. He didn't feel the crushing weight of grief he expected to feel for a lost life. Instead, he felt a deep, oily sense of disgust. It was a mess he hadn't asked for, a tragedy that had stained his clothes and his skin."Damien?"He turned his head slowly. Daniel was standing a few feet away, his face tight, eyebrows drawn together. Daniel looked at Damien’s shirt, then at the blood on his knuckles."The doctors are in there no

Beginning of The Harvest The morning sun didn't bring any light into Nicholas Pierce’s world, it seemed to taunt him, shining brightly on the failure his life had turned to overnight. By 8:00am, the Pierce Group’s stock had plummeted to another fifteen percent. The media was also having a field day, as they played clips of Nicholas’ meltdown at the gala on a log, daring to tag him as the ‘Crumbling Prince’. The comments were rolling in and bashing. Unable to take any more, an unkempt Nicholas had turned off all forms of the media world. Just the other day, he was basking in the praise for how he handled Damien; now, the same people had turned on him, calling him all sorts of unprintable names.Inside his Safe House, Damien sat behind three glowing monitors, his face reflected in them. Damien leaned back while his fingers danced across the keys synchronously. Daniel was beside him, barking orders into the headset he had on. Turning slightly with a grin, he glanced at Damien, his eyes

The Power Couple PactThe locks of the safehouse clicked into place with a loud noise, sealing out the noise of the city. Damien tossed his jacket onto the sofa and headed straight for the bar, pouring himself a glass of water. His hand was steady, but his mind was spinning.Amelia stood in the middle of the room, her blue dress swaying behind her on the floor. She stopped walking and stood looking directly at Damien. She was staring at him like she was seeing him for the first time."No more games, Damien," she said, her voice firm. "I stood by you tonight. I watched you destroy a billionaire’s reputation with a few taps on a screen. A 'nobody' doesn't have the encryption codes for the Pierce Group. Who are you really?"Damien took a slow sip of water and turned to face her. "You saw it tonight. I’m the man who is going to make them pay for every single thing they have done to me.""That’s not an answer," Amelia snapped, walking toward him. "John Miller looked like he saw a ghost whe

Seeds of DoubtThe fun in the ballroom a few minutes ago, before Damien stepped inside, was gone; the air felt heavy, like the oxygen had been sucked out of the room the moment John Miller started trembling. Every eye was on Damien, and the silence was very heavy in the room; no one knew what to believe or trust at that moment.Nicholas was the first to break it. He let out a loud, forced laugh. His face was turning to a shade of purple, something Damien had only seen on men about to have a heart attack."This is a joke, right? Some kind of sick prank?" Nicholas shouted, looking around the room for support. "John, get it together! You’re the CEO! This guy is a nobody! He’s a gardener! A thief! He’s spent the last three years eating scraps in a cell!"Chloe stepped forward, her dress dragging against the floor. Her eyes were wide with a mix of fear and pure hatred. She looked at Damien, then at Amelia, her lip curling in disgust."That’s a lie!" Chloe screamed, her voice cracking. "Dam
