Chapter 3

Liam ended the phone call with Mr. Anderson , his fingers trembling against the glass screen. The Patriarch was dead. The empire was in chaos.

He took a slow, deep breath, feeling the heavy shift in his destiny. Before stepping into the sleek black car that would carry him away from this life forever, he turned around. One last time. He owed it to the three years of devotion he had poured into this woman to give her one final chance.

He walked back through the glass doors, taking the elevator straight back up to the boardroom.

When he pushed the door open, the room was buzzing with excitement. Sandra was standing near the head of the table, reviewing documents with Julian and her team.

"Liam?" Sandra snapped, her voice dripping with annoyance as she looked up. "Why are you back? Didn't you sign the papers? Are you going to throw a temper tantrum now?"

Liam ignored the sneers from the surrounding executives and looked directly into her cold eyes. "Sandra, my grandfather just passed away."

The room went quiet for a split second.

"It is our family tradition," Liam continued, his voice tight with emotion. "I need to return home immediately. I need you to come with me to pay your respects and greet my grandmother properly as my wife."

Sandra stared at him for a moment before throwing her head back and laughing hysterically.

"Are you out of your mind?" she scoffed, glaring at him like he was a complete lunatic. "Are you not a dead man’s son? You are basically an orphan! And it is bold of you to assume I would leave this auction planning committee just to go to some filthy, backwater village and bow down to a smelly old woman!"

A sharp pain pierced Liam's chest, deeper and colder than any insult she had thrown at him before. His hands clenched into tight fists at his sides.

"Insult me all you want, Sandra," Liam said, his voice trembling with suppressed rage. "You can call me names, you can throw my food in the trash, but do not dare insult my grandmother."

"Oh, look at him getting defensive!" Sandra sneered, taking a step toward him. "You want me to accompany you? Fine. Give me one million dollars right now, and I might consider managing a trip to your backwater village. Oh wait, what am I saying? One million is too much for a beggar like you. Give me ten dollars, and maybe I will think about it!"

Julian let out a loud, bark-like laugh, slapping his knee. "Ten dollars? Sandra, I doubt if this useless church rat even has ten dollars in his bank account right now!"

The entire boardroom burst into cruel, echoing laughter.

Sandra rolled her eyes and gestured toward the door dismissively. "Get lost, Liam. And since you have nothing better to do with your life, make sure you go pick up Lily from school. Clean up her clothes and change her diapers."

"Sandra, she is your daughter too," Liam said quietly, his voice hollow.

"And I am not useless like you!" Sandra cut him off sharply, turning her back on him. "I have a multi-billion dollar enterprise to run, so go do the housemaid work you are actually good at."

Liam swallowed the lump in his throat and turned to leave. He had given her her chance, and she had utterly destroyed it.

Just as he reached the threshold, Julian reached into his coat pocket and intentionally dropped a brand-new pack of expensive pens. The box burst open against the hardwood floor, scattering dozens of pens across the doorway.

"Oh my," Julian said with a fake, arrogant gasp. "Look at that mess."

Liam stopped, staring down at the mess at his feet, then looked up at Sandra.

Sandra didn't even glance at Julian. She looked directly at Liam with complete apathy. "No problem, Julian. Liam will pick them up. He is the trash can of my family’s mansion anyway. He is very good at picking up garbage."

Liam felt something inside him snap completely. The final thread of affection he held for her broke into pieces.

"How dare you speak about your husband to people like that?" Liam asked, his voice shaking as he stared at her in utter shock. "I thought you loved me once, Sandra. I needed you to just stand by my side today. I promise you, if you just gave me your trust, I could give you all the designer bags, the luxury mansions, and every fancy thing in this world!"

Sandra turned slowly, looking at him with pure irritation. "You are playing with me far too much, Liam. Look at you! Look at what you are wearing! Designer bags? Luxuries? Stop dreaming!"

She folded her arms over her chest, her expression darkening.

"I want this divorce finished immediately," she declared coldly. "After the White House International Auction, the biggest empires in the world will be in attendance. We are working around the clock trying to invite the BlackWoods Consortium. Their power and money can buy human lives! Someone even said their wealth could buy the heavens themselves!

They never accept private invitations, but my company is going to make it happen and reach the pinnacle of society. So excuse me if I do not have time for your pathetic little sob stories."

Liam stood there, looking at her with a look of sheer, unadulterated shock.

She was cutting ties with him to chase the BlackWoods Consortium, the very empire that belonged entirely to his bloodline.

Julian stepped forward arrogantly, standing right beside Sandra and glaring down at Liam. "Don't mind this church rat, Sandra. I promise you, I will use my father’s connections as the Governor to get the mysterious new Heir of the BlackWoods Consortium to attend our auction."

Liam looked at Julian, then turned his gaze to Sandra one last time. He shook his head slowly, a quiet, pitying smile touching his lips.

"Do you really want a divorce because of this lying, dull man that is a pice of shit?" Liam asked, his tone dead calm. "Sandra... you are about to make the biggest mistake of your entire life."

Inside, on the plush leather couch, Sandra was completely unbothered by the surroundings. She had tossed her dress aside, her body glistening under the harsh fluorescent lights as she rode Julian right there in the middle of the room. Low, heavy moans echoed against the walls, completely uninhibited, entirely shameless. Right across the room, sitting on a small plastic chair in the dark corner, was little Lily. The four-year-old child had her tiny hands clamped tightly over her ears, her knees pulled up to her chest, tears streaming silently down her pale cheeks as she trembled in absolute terror and confusion. Julian’s hands gripped Sandra’s hips tightly, a sweaty, arrogant sm

The surrounding billionaires, already stressed by the sudden presence of federal agents and the freezing of state funds, began to panic. To them, the sudden collapse of authority was terrifying. If the Governor could fall in seconds, none of their fortunes were safe. "He's a fraud! The whole thing is a scam!" Julian screamed again, his eyes bloodshot, his hair completely disheveled as he pointed wildly at Liam. "Look at him! He's using fake federal papers to rob us! If we let him leave with that ring, this entire city's economy will collapse!" "He's right!" a high-ranking regional director shouted from the third row, standing up in a panic. "How can a man on a broken wooden chair command the Federal Reserve? It's a coup!" "Grab him! Don't let him leave!" another investor yelled. Within m

A collective gasp ran through the sea of wealthy attendees. Millionaires, foreign investors, and local aristocrats leaned forward in their soft velvet seats, their eyes wide with greed. The chief auctioneer adjusted his silk tie and tapped his wooden gavel against the podium. "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the crown jewel of tonight's event. The historic Black Diamond Jade Ring. Bidding for this priceless masterpiece will start at ten million dollars." Before anyone else could raise a paddle, Julian stood up right from the central VIP row. He puffed out his chest, turning around to face the entire hall with a smirk on his face. "20 million dol

Chapter 6 The velvet curtains of the Imperial VIP Suite offered a panoramic view of the glittering auction hall below, but Liam barely looked down at the ocean of diamonds and designer gowns. He sat on a plush leather sofa, gently smoothing his daughter’s hair as she quietly ate a gold-dusted pastry. A sharp, demanding knock broke the quiet. Before the private guard could clear the entry, the doors burst open. Sandra marched in, her silk dress rustling aggressively. Her cheeks were flushed with a mixture of rage, embarrassment, and deep denial. She swept her eyes across the crystal chandeliers, the butler service, and finally landed on Liam, her expression contorting into pure disgust. "I knew it!"Sandra sneered, taking swift, heavy strides toward him. "Look at you, sitting here acting like you actually belong in a room like this! Did you really think you could fool me, Liam?" Liam did not even bother to stand up. He casually picked up a porcelain tea cup, taking a slow si

Liam shouted, struggling to look up as little Lily cried out in terror nearby. "She is my child!" Sandra’s mother stood on the curb, her arms folded over her chest, a cruel, triumphant sneer plastered across her face. "Look at this homeless freak pretending to be a father!" she shrieked at the officers. "Officer, he snatched my granddaughter without permission! Without asking a single question, the officers slammed Liam into the back of the vehicle. That night, inside the dark, cold cell, Liam w
