CHAPTER 11: Are You Sure

Just then, Oliver walked forward and took out his business card. He handed it to Robert and said, "Mr. Meyer, my name is Oliver Cooper. This is my business card. I can understand how you feel. But today is Mrs. Bailey's birthday. Could you please let us finish the meal here? I'll pay a visit to you to show my gratitude."

Mr. Robert took the business card and looked at it. He glanced at James and nodded. "Fine. Now that it's her birthday, I should not make things difficult for you on such a big day. You can have the room."

He winked at James and left. Apparently, he agreed just because of James.

But people didn't think so. After that, they gave Oliver compliments.

"Oliver you're awesome. Young and wonderful! You've good manners. No wonder he said yes!"

"Yeah. If James hadn't done that, he might have been harshly treated."

I think Oliver's business card worked. He knew Oliver's identity, so he wanted to make friends with Oliver.

Oliver agreed with them, but he just waved his hand modestly. He smiled, "It's not a big deal. This happens all the time, we're all decent people. And we meet each other very often since we're businessmen. Everyone wants to make more friends because it means more choices."

"Yeah. Oliver, you are brilliant. Call me if you have a good chance."

"I'm sorry. I need to use the toilet." James suddenly stood up and walked out.

They looked at him with doubtful eyes because they believe that James was jealous of Oliver.

Ava shook her head in disappointment. Compared with Oliver, who was an excellent businessman, James was nothing.

James walked out of the private room and saw Robert waiting for him outside.

Robert hugged him excitedly, James told him about his story simply telling him not to let anybody know about it.

James returned to the private room. After the meal, people chatted with Oliver. As for James, he stayed quiet. People ignored him.

When the birthday cake was served, the door was opened again. several men in suits walked in.

One man held a box and asked politely, "is this Amelia Bailey's birthday party?"

"Yes. I'm Amelia Bailey. Who are you?"

Amelia found out they were not the staff of the place. She stood up in confusion.

"Mrs. Bailey, this is a gift for you from our boss. Here is a note."

The man put the box in front of Amelia, took out a note from his pocket, and handed the note to her. Then he left.

Amelia grabbed the note. People stood up curiously, Mrs. Bailey who are they? They are not ordinary people."

"I don't know." Amelia was puzzled too. "What's in the box? open it!" Amelia hurriedly opened the box in confusion, only to see a big pearl.

"What's this? Pearl?" They were puzzled.

Joseph suddenly opened his eyes wide and took the box at once. "Let me have a look." It's real.

He gasped as he observed the pearl. His hands shook in surprise.

Amelia, what's this? Why are you so surprised?" People didn't know why he was so excited about the pearl.

Joseph said excitedly, it is called lightening pearl! You know, I love antiques and spend a lot of time on them. I can remember this pearl!

There was an auction day in Manchester city. This ancient pearl was sold at the price of 10 million dollars! I can tell from his color that this is original. It's the one sold at the auction.

"But I don't know who bought the pearl. Why did the buyer give it to Amelia?" "What? Lightening pearl? 10 million dollars?"

10 million dollars?"

People were shocked. They asked in disbelief, Mrs. Bailey, who did this? This is crazy!"

Amelia was in the dark. She almost fell in shock. she had never had such an expensive gift. Even the legacy of the Bailey family was not worth such a large sum of money.

But Ava was not happy. After all, It was too expensive. She said, "Mom check the note. Maybe they came for the wrong person. It's too expensive. We can't afford it if there's anything wrong."

"Yeah. Check the note." They urged.

Amelia came back to her senses and read it out, "Hi, in-laws. Happy birthday. It's a gift from us to you."

"In-laws?" James thought and frowned.

He wondered if the gift was from Leo Meyer who came to him days ago. His parents were the richest people in Sunshine and ran the Miller's. It was natural for them to give such an expensive gift.

"In-laws? Mrs. Bailey, is this from your in-laws?" People were astonished.

I don't know. The note says so." Amelia's mind went blank.

People looked at James in disbelief. Is it from James' parents? It's worth 10 million dollars.

Amelia denied it at once. "No way. His parents are dead, he's an orphan, and his relatives are poor.

"Exactly, it has nothing to do with James. It's good that he doesn't ask us for money. How could they give such a gift?"

Ava suspected the pearl was from James' family at first, but she felt it was impossible after hearing what her parents said.

If James' family had been rich enough, he wouldn't have been a matrilocal son-in-law. It was unbelievable that the lightning pearl was from James' family.

James' eyes shone with annoyance.

James says something." Ava looked at him suddenly.

People fell silent. They waited for him to speak.

"The note is clear. It's from your in-laws. Do you have other in-laws?" James cooled down and said. He is right. James' family are your in-laws. Who would say so except for his family? Mrs. Bailey do you have another daughter?"

James do you mean this is from your family? Oliver said scornfully, "You got the cheek to say that, we all know your family background. Can your family afford this? If you can afford it, it must be fake."

"Is this from your family?" James looked at him significantly.

"Maybe, my father has 10 million dollars. And he hoped that I could marry Ava years ago. But he doesn't know Ava is married. So he left the note and made a joke. He is Mrs. Bailey's old friend. A joke is natural.

"Fair enough, it may be from Oliver's father. After all, all of us didn't have enough money except for Oliver.

People felt that it was reasonable. Even Joseph and Amelia nodded.

"Are you sure?

James smiled for the first time at the party.
