Eliana

The sound of my heart beating was so loud it took away my ability to hear. I couldn’t stop, couldn’t look back; I just had to be away from him and everyone. I still didn’t know why I did that or what I was thinking, but the deed had been done, and I was left with the unsettling feeling of shame.

I forced myself into the kitchen, and I could finally calm down and collect my thoughts. Luckily for me, it was empty because all the maids and servants had retired to their quarters for the night.

Quickly, I got to the sink and began to splatter water on my face, each splash a realization of the huge mess and the fool I had become.

“Why did you have to do that?” I cursed at myself. My mind made flashes of the look on his face as he pushed me away: disgust, fear, and confusion, and I felt hot tears run down my cheeks.

“You’re so stupid,” I whispered, crouching on the floor.

After a few seconds of bawling my eyes out, I wiped the tears off my face and stood up quietly, making my way to

DamianI watched Eliana return to the living room, her face flushed like she'd just run a marathon. I raised an eyebrow at her, wondering what was going on with her. She'd been acting weird since last night, and now this. I studied her expression, trying to read her, but she was doing a good job of keeping a straight face on.Something was definitely up with her, and I was going to find out when I’d settled all the pending issues."Eliana, are you okay?" I asked, concern creeping into my voice. She nodded, quickly taking a seat next to Pearl. "Yeah, I'm fine. Told you I got a headache, but it's gone now that I got some water." She replied with a wry smile.I nodded, not entirely convinced. Something was off, but I'd let it slide for now.Turning to Pearl, who was lost in her own thoughts, I asked, "How's your brother doing? Are you ready to tell us about your family?"She blinked at me like she didn’t expect me to ask her that, and then she shook her head and cleared her throat, her

  • Chapter 102: The Call to Action.

ElianaWe didn’t speak to each other as we walked to other rooms retrieving the contact information; the tension between us was palpable, and my mind was reeling with thoughts on what could have happened if the door had stayed closed.I thought about his words more often than I wanted to, and it made my skin crawl. What did he mean by saying he didn’t want to forget it? And why wouldn’t he say anything to me after such an intense moment? We finally returned to Serena’s room; Damian and Mila were sitting in a chair next to her bed, while she sat up in her bed dressed in the perfect outfit for going home. They were having a conversation when we arrived, but on seeing us, they stopped. I looked around and realized Pearl wasn’t in the room, and I raised my eyebrow at Damian.“Where’s Pearl?” I asked, my voice a bit shaky from the whole being in Victor’s presence.“The doctor took her to go see her brother as soon as you both left.” Damian explained, and I nodded. I shifted my gaze to Se

  • Chapter 101: A Day With Him

Eliana Pearl and I trailed quietly behind Mila and Damian as we walked through the hospital corridors; the familiar hospital smell and beeping of machines were a stark contrast to the anxiety brewing inside me. I still couldn’t get over Rostella’s words.Soon, we stopped in front of Serena's room, and I took a deep breath, trying to compose myself. That's when I saw him, Victor. Standing tall, his piercing eyes locked onto mine, and I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. I wasn't in the slightest bit ready to face him, not after what happened last night. My cheeks flushed, and I looked away, feigning ignorance."Eliana, are you okay?" Mila asked, noticing my sudden stiffness.I nodded, forcing a smile. "Yeah, just... super excited to see Serena."The doctor led us into the room, and I made sure to keep my distance from Victor. But just as we were about to enter, Damian slowly turned to Victor and said, "Victor, go and get the contacts from the hostages. Take Eliana with you; it'

Eliana“Oh, don’t act so surprised to see me, you rat!” She spat, grabbing the attention of the other shoppers. Mila immediately came to my rescue by forcing Rostella’s grip on my arm away. “Don’t cause a scene; if you have anything to say, say it like a person with courtesy.” Mila ordered, her voice calm but her face twisted in anger.“You put a silly girl in a mansion and then she thinks she’s somebody.” Rostella hissed at Mila before turning to me.“Tell your bodyguard to mind her business, and tell that brother of yours that this is far from over.” She began, and I watched her face go red despite her desperate attempt to hide her fury. She took a few steps closer, so close I could feel her breath on my face as she spoke. “You all have no idea what you’ve done, the damage you’ve caused, the business you’ve destroyed. We’re coming for you, and we’re going to get you this time.” She said it, and I felt a shiver run down my spine.“Back off.” Mila barked as she tried to step between

  • Chapter 98: Midnight Kiss

Eliana “Where is Pearl?” He asked again, and my heart skipped a beat as he looked from me to Mila. The truth was, we were as confused as he was.“She left as soon as you did; she refused to stay back.” Mila explained, unable to keep eye contact with him.I watched as Damian's expression changed from concern to anger, his eyes narrowing as her words registered in his mind. I felt a pang of guilt, knowing I was about to add to his frustration."Damian, I'm so sorry," I said, trying to calm him down. "Pearl was...she was determined to go to the hospital. She said she couldn't just sit at home and do nothing while her brother was in a hospital bed." His face darkened with a frown. "And you let her go?" he asked, his voice low and even.Mila shook her head, her eyes welling up with tears. "I tried to stop her, Damian. I begged her to stay, but she refused. She said she had to see him, and I thought, we all thought, maybe she'd run into you at the hospital." She explained, although I coul
