Celeste looked at me, and I could guess what she was waiting for. I knew she was anticipating me taking out my phone and reading the message.

"Aren't you going to check that? It might be what you have been anticipating." She said, looking at my face.

We were not friends, and we don't talk that much. I wonder why she was showing interest in all of me suddenly.

"I doubt it is a message from the system." I replied, brushing her words off like they meant nothing.

"So, you want to tell me how long you have been in this system?" I looked at her face. I needed to bring up a topic to distract her.

That is all that gamers do.

Try to see into your very soul and know how to tackle you head-on. I was done being the pawn. Money meant little to me now that I had enough. My mother was rich, and the café was doing well.

I was on top of my grades, and I was having everything I needed at my beck and call. I was even the Lord Gang, even though I don't know what that meant.

"Me?" Celeste

I still can't believe what I was seeing. This was definitely not me or maybe it was someone that looked like me. I could feel the electric jolt down my body. " It can't be." I said slowly staring at the screen. " Is there a problem Doctor Jason?" one of the tech guys asked, his eyebrows arched." No, nothing. I think I just missed some moment. I came to clarify." I said with a smile. The truth was that, I didn't actually remember doing any of it. I was drawing attention to myself even though it was never my intention. The system was playing mind games with me. The same game it played when I was at school. " What the hell is going on? Am I losing track of time?" I said slowly as I walked. I accidentally ran into one of the staff's and she fell flat. " I am sorry. My bad." I said thrusting a hand forward to help her up. " Doctor Jason?" she said slowly locking eyes with me. " You know me?" I asked with a smile " Who doesn't know you around here? You are the miracle doctor ain't

I never wanted to stand out. All I did was work. I tried to save lives and also made sure people did not die on my watch but it looked like I had some too much. .I still cannot take my mind off what Dr Tan said last night. Did he know something that I did not?The system has not been helpful. All it ever did was monitor my heart race and tell me when I needed to slow down. But there was something else I noticed. Something I had always thought was meaningless. The blur movements. The way my hand moved. There was something about it that felt extraordinary. It can't be? I said slowly as I sip my morning coffee. I was good at what I do but I don't think the system was interfering. I let out a sigh. My thoughts drifted back to what Dr Tan has said and why he was pushing me to the edge. Today was Saturday. It was supposed to be a free work day for me after staying up or night but I don't think I would be getting that tonight. I shut my eyes and I could still hear the noises of pain

The room went quiet the moment that voice spoke. All heads turned towards the entrance. It was deep and rough, like it had been used too many times to command people. I turned slowly. The man standing by the door was tall and broad. His hair was neatly cut, his coat spotless, and his eyes were sharp in a way that made my skin tighten. He did not look like a normal doctor. He looked like someone who watched more than he spoke.Dr Lim did not look surprised to see him.“Dr Tan,” Dr Lim said calmly. “I didn’t expect you here.”Dr Tan stepped further into the room. His shoes made soft sounds on the floor, but somehow, every step felt loud.“I make it a habit to see new recruits myself,” he replied.“Especially international ones.”His eyes moved to me.“So,” he continued, “are you sure he is the right man for the job?”Every eye in the room turned toward me.I felt the pressure immediately. Not the kind from exams or interviews. This was different. This was the kind that could decide yo

The flight felt longer than it should have. Not because of turbulence or discomfort, but because my mind refused to stay still. Every time I closed my eyes, images rushed in—Mrs Tracy standing in the kitchen, the smell of soup, her smile at the airport. And of course, there was Selene whose face kept popping up in my head. I couldn't let go of our last kiss. The promise of coming back. She was the woman that I had envisioned as a wife. A lady I would like to spend eternity with. I opened my eyes and stared out the window again. The clouds looked endless, white and thick like a different world entirely. Somewhere beyond them was Singapore. Somewhere beyond them was the life I had chosen.A flight attendant walked past and smiled politely.“Would you like anything to drink, sir?”“Water, please,” I replied. She handed it to me, and I thanked her. My voice sounded calm, but inside, everything was noisy. Thoughts collided with one another, fears mixing with excitement until I could not

Everything became tense the moment her hand dropped from my face. Mrs Tracy stared at me for a long time. The smile on her face slowly faded, but it did not disappear completely. It was like she was forcing herself to stay calm even though her heart already knew the truth.“Jason,” she said softly, “where is the job?”I swallowed hard. My throat felt dry all of a sudden.“It is… not here, Mum,” I replied. She nodded slowly, like she expected it. She turned back to the pot of soup and stirred it gently. The spoon made slow circles, and the sound felt louder than it should.“How far?” she asked.“Singapore,” I said. The spoon stopped moving. The kitchen became very quiet. Even the sizzling sound from the pot reduced, like it too was listening. I watched her back, afraid to move, afraid to speak.“Singapore,” she repeated quietly.“Yes, Mum.”She placed the spoon on the counter and rested both hands there. Her shoulders looked stiff, but she did not cry. That made it worse for me.“You

It is a good thing to travel around the world just so that this time, I was not travelling. I was going on a business trip. Selene looked at my face, " Is it good news?" she asked with her eyebrows arched. By now, she knows when I was worried and when I was happy. " Just some business messages. Am I going to see you anytime soon?" I ask getting to my feet. Selene looked at me. I could see that she cared. " What do you want it to be, Jason?" There was a moment of silence between the two of us. I wanted her to know of my feelings for her. I walked slowly towards her, my step making a gentle sound. I stopped, staring into her emerald eyes. " What If I don't want you to go? Would you stay?" I asked, my hand grabbing hers. Selene let out a gentle sigh. " I have to go, Jason . There are things I have to take care of at home." " Fair enough. Then come back to me when you are done sorting them out. I am going to be waiting for you." I said with my head tilted forwards. I placed a ge
