I could barely believe what was right in front of me. A whooping sum of $2,000,000 right in my account.

I counted the Zeros again and I couldn't believe it. I looked around trying to see if I was not dreaming. I slapped my face and I screamed

[ OUCH! ]

Another message popped right in front of me yet again.

[ SYSTEM MESSAGE ; YOU HAVE TWO WEEKS TO SPEND THE MONEY HOW EVER YOU WISH. ]

The game slowly uninstalled itself off my phone. For a moment, I was not sure if I should be happy or sad. That was my lottery ticket to wealth and fame.

And it just disappeared.

I wasn't bothered. Rather my brain swung into formation Andi began to calculate how I was going to spend the sum of $2,000,000 within two weeks.

I know it is a lot of money but damn!

I have a lot of things that need to be done. First, I was going to tear down the cafe and build a new one for Madam Tracy. She deserves the very best.

She has housed me when I don't even have anywhere to go too.

But first, I need to make sure the money is real. I need to be sure. I got off the pavement dusting my buttocks as I ran down the street.

My heart is pumping so much blood that I needed to take a breather when I got to the ATM machine.

I met a long queue.

I furrowed my brows a little and waited. The line was fast as many people don't really have much to cash out from the machine. I kind of felt nervous and praised that the money should not finish in my turn.

Getting to the front of the machine, I let out a gentle breath and for the first time I praised, hoped that the money was right inside my account.

I just needed $10,000 out of the money in the bank. That was enough to make me believe I was two million dollars richer.

I pressed the amount needed and waited for the money to come out but then after waiting for eternity.

Nothing!

I stylishly looked back to see the bald man who had a frown on his face. It was evident I was wasting time.

" One more try." I said reassuring myself that the money was real. I pressed the daily button with shaky hands and waited.

But then, another error message flashed before my very eyes.

" Your account is insufficient."

" Get out of the way boy and stop wasting our time!" he said with a grumpy voice.

His muscular arms kicked me off the line and I fell to the dusty floors with my eyes fixed on him.

I watched as he pressed the number as the solar cash flew out. He let out a grin and looked at me

" That is how you command it, you don't coke down to the machine when you don't have anything to command." he ranted.

I grabbed my phone and looked at the message I got from the bank.

Was this a fake alert?

Or was Derek planning another staunt?

[ AFTER WAITING FOR HOURS ]

My phone rang several times and I saw it was Tracy. I knew she was either calling because I had left without talking to her or because she was worried.

I looked at my rusty and old ATM. I have had it for a very long time. I looked at the bubbling street and I felt the world was cruel.

I got up and decided to give it a list trial before heading home.

I slid the card into the machine and closed my eyes.

But then, I heard the gentle hum of the machine and the fast roll of something that sounded more like paper.

It was counting!

What?

My eyeslid flipped up as the money popped right out.

" Yeah! Yes!" I shouted a lot of attention towards me. I smiled as I pocketed the ten thousand dollar note.

Then it crossed my mind. I had seen the shoes and clothes Mrs Tracy wore when she went to plead for me at the university.

It was old, worn out and tattered. It was only right for me to appreciate her and get her another.

I walked down the stairs feeling like a king and waved a cab. " Where to kid?" the driver who had burnt teeth from smoking looked at me.

" Do you know the most exotic and expensive boutique in town?" I asked staring at him.

I saw the way he looked at me and laughed. " Why don't you sow your clothes according to your size kid? You can't afford any of those fancy dresses." He replied laughing weirdly.

" Why don't you mind your business and drive me down there?" I said making him shut the hell up.

The car ignited and soon we were on our way to the most exotic boutique.

I hailed the cab and headed to the most exotic boutique in town, feeling like a million bucks – or rather, two million bucks. The driver's skepticism only fueled my determination to splurge on something extraordinary. As we arrived at the boutique, I could feel my excitement building up. I was going to get Mrs. Tracy the most stunning outfit, something that would make her feel like royalty.

I stepped into the boutique, and my eyes widened in awe. The racks were filled with designer dresses, sparkling jewelry, and luxurious accessories. I approached the sales associate, a stylish woman with a warm smile.

"Hello, sir! Welcome to our boutique. How may I assist you today?" she asked, eyeing my casual attire with a hint of curiosity.

"I'm looking for something special," I said, my eyes scanning the racks. "Something that will catch the eye. I want to buy a gift for someone very special."

The sales associate's face lit up with interest. "Well, we have just the thing. Follow me, please." she said slowly glancing at my faded outfit

She led me to a section of the boutique that seemed to be reserved for the crème de la crème of fashion. I gasped as I saw the prices, but I didn't care. I was on a mission to find the perfect gift.

As I browsed through the racks, the sales associate told me about the designers, the fabrics, and the inspiration behind each piece. I was impressed by her knowledge and passion for fashion.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I found it – the perfect outfit. It was a stunning evening gown, with intricate lace details and a subtle sparkle that seemed to dance in the light.

"This is it," I said, my heart racing with excitement. "I'll take it."

The sales associate smiled, clearly pleased with my choice. "Excellent taste, sir. I'll get you set up with the alterations and the accessories."

As I waited for the sales associate to ring up my purchase, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. I was doing something special for someone who truly deserved it.

But then the door spring opened and my smile faded into anger.

" And what is a church rat doing in an expensive boutique such as this?" The voice said walking towards me

My chest rose and fell slowly as I stared at the ceiling. For the first time since the system appeared in my life… I was afraid of it.Not the missions. Not the aging. The control. The silence in the apartment felt heavier than before. Selene’s absence hung in the air like a ghost that refused to leave. The system had called her a variable.Something disposable.Something that could be removed to increase my survival rate.My fingers curled into fists.“No,” I whispered hoarsely. The phone lay beside me on the floor. Its screen was dark, but I knew it was watching.Waiting.Calculating.For months I had obeyed it. Run when it told me to run. Saved who it told me to save. Accepted the punishment when I failed.I told myself it was worth it because people lived. But now I realized something. The system didn’t care about people. It cared about efficiency. And Selene… didn’t fit into its equation.I pushed myself up slowly and sat against the couch.“You picked the wrong man to control,”

I barely slept. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw numbers. They burned behind my eyelids like a countdown I could not stop. Seventeen years. That was how far my body had drifted from my birth certificate. A man in his early twenties wearing the biology of someone nearly forty. And the system was warning me. Exposure increasing. I didn’t know what that meant exactly. I just knew it couldn’t be good. Morning light filtered through the curtains, washing the living room in pale gold. Selene stirred on the couch, her brows knitting slightly before she opened her eyes. For a split second, she smiled. Then she saw me watching her. “You didn’t sleep,” she said. " Did you?" It wasn’t a question. I could tell it in the tone of her voice. Her gaze fixed on me like she was expecting me to say otherwise. “I did,” I lied automatically. Her eyes narrowed. There I went again. She sat up slowly, tucking her legs beneath her. “You’ve changed.” My chest tightened. “People change. Besides,

Selene was coming into town today. I was happy and sad at the same time. I have to make sure she didn't know anything about the system. That was my priority. Shielding her was the best way but then, I have to be able to navigate the system without her knowing. Selene was very observant. It was only a matter of time before she caught on. I looked at myself in the mirror one last time. I had dyed my dark hair black. All thanks to the system who kept aging me with each healing mission. I stared at myself for quite a while. I can't believe I was having wrinkles already. For a young man in his early twenties. " Gosh." I let out with my head thrown backwards. My phone rang again. " Where are you?" Selene's voice boomed from the speaker. " I will be at the airport in a jiffy. The traffic is holding me up." I lied.[ Line cut off ] The line went dead, but her voice lingered in my head long after the call ended.I lowered the phone slowly and exhaled. Lying to Selene had never sat r

Beaded sweats formed on my face as I tried to take a seat. One thing was certain, I was not the same man I was when I got into Singapore. I could feel the people's gaze on me. I could hear their gentle whispering. "How does he do that?" " Is he even human?" " How can he heal with every single touch?" I smirked. It was a gift I would like to give any of them. No! A curse I would like to let go. The system was draining me day-by-day and there was nothing I could do about it. As I walked down the stairway, I felt a little dizzy. My leg slipped and I also fell. " Are you alright?" One of the female doctors who was passing by asked as she grabbed my hands. " I am fine." I said looking at her. " You look like.." she paused. " Shit." I said silently. " I know what I look like, Doctor.." My gaze went towards her chest and I caught her name. " Doctor Anabel." I walked past her towards the garden. I need to relax. My body was weak and my heart was beating so loud t

Call me names. I guess I was slowly getting tired of being tied to a system that wants my death. Every healing was at the cost of my life. Something that was now really scary for me. The scotch burned my throat as it went down, sharp and unforgiving. I welcomed it. Pain was easier to deal with when it was simple and honest. Not like the system. Not like the slow, invisible tax it was collecting from my body. I leaned against the kitchen counter, staring at my reflection in the darkened window. The lines around my eyes were deeper than they had been a month ago. My hairline had receded just a little more, enough that only someone obsessed with their own face would notice. Unfortunately, I was. “Just stress,” I muttered to myself, even though we both knew that was a lie. I poured another glass but didn’t drink it immediately. My phone vibrated on the counter. " I heard you did the impossible again. You are trying our hero." I clenched my fist in anger. " When did you get to Singapore?" I asked staring at his face. " Does it matter? What actually matters is that you are here and we are back to where we started." He grabbed his cup of wine and raised it up. "Here is to you, Doctor Jason." I watched him drink and I felt irritated. " Can we talk?" I said immediately Derek turned to look at the moment I as
