I could barely believe what was right in front of me. A whooping sum of $2,000,000 right in my account.
I counted the Zeros again and I couldn't believe it. I looked around trying to see if I was not dreaming. I slapped my face and I screamed [ OUCH! ] Another message popped right in front of me yet again. [ SYSTEM MESSAGE ; YOU HAVE TWO WEEKS TO SPEND THE MONEY HOW EVER YOU WISH. ] The game slowly uninstalled itself off my phone. For a moment, I was not sure if I should be happy or sad. That was my lottery ticket to wealth and fame. And it just disappeared. I wasn't bothered. Rather my brain swung into formation Andi began to calculate how I was going to spend the sum of $2,000,000 within two weeks. I know it is a lot of money but damn! I have a lot of things that need to be done. First, I was going to tear down the cafe and build a new one for Madam Tracy. She deserves the very best. She has housed me when I don't even have anywhere to go too. But first, I need to make sure the money is real. I need to be sure. I got off the pavement dusting my buttocks as I ran down the street. My heart is pumping so much blood that I needed to take a breather when I got to the ATM machine. I met a long queue. I furrowed my brows a little and waited. The line was fast as many people don't really have much to cash out from the machine. I kind of felt nervous and praised that the money should not finish in my turn. Getting to the front of the machine, I let out a gentle breath and for the first time I praised, hoped that the money was right inside my account. I just needed $10,000 out of the money in the bank. That was enough to make me believe I was two million dollars richer. I pressed the amount needed and waited for the money to come out but then after waiting for eternity. Nothing! I stylishly looked back to see the bald man who had a frown on his face. It was evident I was wasting time. " One more try." I said reassuring myself that the money was real. I pressed the daily button with shaky hands and waited. But then, another error message flashed before my very eyes. " Your account is insufficient." " Get out of the way boy and stop wasting our time!" he said with a grumpy voice. His muscular arms kicked me off the line and I fell to the dusty floors with my eyes fixed on him. I watched as he pressed the number as the solar cash flew out. He let out a grin and looked at me " That is how you command it, you don't coke down to the machine when you don't have anything to command." he ranted. I grabbed my phone and looked at the message I got from the bank. Was this a fake alert? Or was Derek planning another staunt? [ AFTER WAITING FOR HOURS ] My phone rang several times and I saw it was Tracy. I knew she was either calling because I had left without talking to her or because she was worried. I looked at my rusty and old ATM. I have had it for a very long time. I looked at the bubbling street and I felt the world was cruel. I got up and decided to give it a list trial before heading home. I slid the card into the machine and closed my eyes. But then, I heard the gentle hum of the machine and the fast roll of something that sounded more like paper. It was counting! What? My eyeslid flipped up as the money popped right out. " Yeah! Yes!" I shouted a lot of attention towards me. I smiled as I pocketed the ten thousand dollar note. Then it crossed my mind. I had seen the shoes and clothes Mrs Tracy wore when she went to plead for me at the university. It was old, worn out and tattered. It was only right for me to appreciate her and get her another. I walked down the stairs feeling like a king and waved a cab. " Where to kid?" the driver who had burnt teeth from smoking looked at me. " Do you know the most exotic and expensive boutique in town?" I asked staring at him. I saw the way he looked at me and laughed. " Why don't you sow your clothes according to your size kid? You can't afford any of those fancy dresses." He replied laughing weirdly. " Why don't you mind your business and drive me down there?" I said making him shut the hell up. The car ignited and soon we were on our way to the most exotic boutique. I hailed the cab and headed to the most exotic boutique in town, feeling like a million bucks – or rather, two million bucks. The driver's skepticism only fueled my determination to splurge on something extraordinary. As we arrived at the boutique, I could feel my excitement building up. I was going to get Mrs. Tracy the most stunning outfit, something that would make her feel like royalty. I stepped into the boutique, and my eyes widened in awe. The racks were filled with designer dresses, sparkling jewelry, and luxurious accessories. I approached the sales associate, a stylish woman with a warm smile. "Hello, sir! Welcome to our boutique. How may I assist you today?" she asked, eyeing my casual attire with a hint of curiosity. "I'm looking for something special," I said, my eyes scanning the racks. "Something that will catch the eye. I want to buy a gift for someone very special." The sales associate's face lit up with interest. "Well, we have just the thing. Follow me, please." she said slowly glancing at my faded outfit She led me to a section of the boutique that seemed to be reserved for the crème de la crème of fashion. I gasped as I saw the prices, but I didn't care. I was on a mission to find the perfect gift. As I browsed through the racks, the sales associate told me about the designers, the fabrics, and the inspiration behind each piece. I was impressed by her knowledge and passion for fashion. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I found it – the perfect outfit. It was a stunning evening gown, with intricate lace details and a subtle sparkle that seemed to dance in the light. "This is it," I said, my heart racing with excitement. "I'll take it." The sales associate smiled, clearly pleased with my choice. "Excellent taste, sir. I'll get you set up with the alterations and the accessories." As I waited for the sales associate to ring up my purchase, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. I was doing something special for someone who truly deserved it. But then the door spring opened and my smile faded into anger. " And what is a church rat doing in an expensive boutique such as this?" The voice said walking towards meLatest Chapter

The flight felt longer than it should have. Not because of turbulence or discomfort, but because my mind refused to stay still. Every time I closed my eyes, images rushed in—Mrs Tracy standing in the kitchen, the smell of soup, her smile at the airport. And of course, there was Selene whose face kept popping up in my head. I couldn't let go of our last kiss. The promise of coming back. She was the woman that I had envisioned as a wife. A lady I would like to spend eternity with. I opened my eyes and stared out the window again. The clouds looked endless, white and thick like a different world entirely. Somewhere beyond them was Singapore. Somewhere beyond them was the life I had chosen.A flight attendant walked past and smiled politely.“Would you like anything to drink, sir?”“Water, please,” I replied. She handed it to me, and I thanked her. My voice sounded calm, but inside, everything was noisy. Thoughts collided with one another, fears mixing with excitement until I could not

Everything became tense the moment her hand dropped from my face. Mrs Tracy stared at me for a long time. The smile on her face slowly faded, but it did not disappear completely. It was like she was forcing herself to stay calm even though her heart already knew the truth.“Jason,” she said softly, “where is the job?”I swallowed hard. My throat felt dry all of a sudden.“It is… not here, Mum,” I replied. She nodded slowly, like she expected it. She turned back to the pot of soup and stirred it gently. The spoon made slow circles, and the sound felt louder than it should.“How far?” she asked.“Singapore,” I said. The spoon stopped moving. The kitchen became very quiet. Even the sizzling sound from the pot reduced, like it too was listening. I watched her back, afraid to move, afraid to speak.“Singapore,” she repeated quietly.“Yes, Mum.”She placed the spoon on the counter and rested both hands there. Her shoulders looked stiff, but she did not cry. That made it worse for me.“You

It is a good thing to travel around the world just so that this time, I was not travelling. I was going on a business trip. Selene looked at my face, " Is it good news?" she asked with her eyebrows arched. By now, she knows when I was worried and when I was happy. " Just some business messages. Am I going to see you anytime soon?" I ask getting to my feet. Selene looked at me. I could see that she cared. " What do you want it to be, Jason?" There was a moment of silence between the two of us. I wanted her to know of my feelings for her. I walked slowly towards her, my step making a gentle sound. I stopped, staring into her emerald eyes. " What If I don't want you to go? Would you stay?" I asked, my hand grabbing hers. Selene let out a gentle sigh. " I have to go, Jason . There are things I have to take care of at home." " Fair enough. Then come back to me when you are done sorting them out. I am going to be waiting for you." I said with my head tilted forwards. I placed a ge

I stood there for a long time, staring at my phone like it would suddenly change its mind and show me another message.Nothing came.No quest. No countdown. No threat.Just silence. The money alert came a few seconds later. One alert. Then another. Then another. The numbers kept adding up until my bank app showed an amount I never imagined I would see in my lifetime.I laughed softly. Not because I was happy but because it felt unreal.“So this is it?” I muttered. “You play with our lives… and then just walk away?”The phone screen went dark.I pushed myself off the wall and took a deep breath. The air felt different. Lighter. Or maybe that was just my mind trying to adjust to the idea of freedom.Freedom.That word felt strange in my head. For so long, my life had been planned by quests, warnings, and punishments. Every move I made was calculated. Every choice had a price. Now there was nothing telling me what to do next.I walked back toward the parking area slowly. My legs felt wea

The graduation ceremony was unlike anything I have ever expected. Most of the academic staff were present. Some faces I had seen and most others were never seen. Selena came in one of her fancy cars. The photographers and many other camera man and woman did well to take capture of everyone. Derek Carter who had been my arch enemy was seated with some of his friends oblivious to the fact that I existed. Today felt like it wasn't all about the system. It felt like it was all about us graduants. We were finally leaving, finally going to be free of everything. But I can't stop thinking about it all. I can't stop thinking about what I had seen in the future. What I had known. Was thjs really the end to it all? Was the system going to let go and finally select another gamers?I sat still, my gaze reading through the crowd. I was always on alert. The system had thought me that. Saving my mother meant everything to me. The system immediately acknowledged it." What was that all about?" Mrs Tracy asked, setting the basket of groceries that she carried on the table.I looked at her and sigh. " It has been taken care of, Mum. I want you to know that I love you and I am going to make sure you are safe. Don't talk to anyone you don't know and make sure you always have your phone location on. I am going to find you no matter what." Mrs Tracy looked at Selene and back at me. I was sure she didn't understand what I meant but she had her doubts. I looked at her and smiled. " I love you mother." She walked closer to me and hugged me tightly, " I love you too, Jason but don't you ever frighten me like that ever again." We all laughed at her words. The moment she walked into the room, I let out a long sigh. " What next?" Selene asked. I arched my brows for a bit. " What next? I don't want you getting involved in any of this. Do not ask questions that you don't
