I could barely believe what was right in front of me. A whooping sum of $2,000,000 right in my account.

I counted the Zeros again and I couldn't believe it. I looked around trying to see if I was not dreaming. I slapped my face and I screamed

[ OUCH! ]

Another message popped right in front of me yet again.

[ SYSTEM MESSAGE ; YOU HAVE TWO WEEKS TO SPEND THE MONEY HOW EVER YOU WISH. ]

The game slowly uninstalled itself off my phone. For a moment, I was not sure if I should be happy or sad. That was my lottery ticket to wealth and fame.

And it just disappeared.

I wasn't bothered. Rather my brain swung into formation Andi began to calculate how I was going to spend the sum of $2,000,000 within two weeks.

I know it is a lot of money but damn!

I have a lot of things that need to be done. First, I was going to tear down the cafe and build a new one for Madam Tracy. She deserves the very best.

She has housed me when I don't even have anywhere to go too.

But first, I need to make sure the money is real. I need to be sure. I got off the pavement dusting my buttocks as I ran down the street.

My heart is pumping so much blood that I needed to take a breather when I got to the ATM machine.

I met a long queue.

I furrowed my brows a little and waited. The line was fast as many people don't really have much to cash out from the machine. I kind of felt nervous and praised that the money should not finish in my turn.

Getting to the front of the machine, I let out a gentle breath and for the first time I praised, hoped that the money was right inside my account.

I just needed $10,000 out of the money in the bank. That was enough to make me believe I was two million dollars richer.

I pressed the amount needed and waited for the money to come out but then after waiting for eternity.

Nothing!

I stylishly looked back to see the bald man who had a frown on his face. It was evident I was wasting time.

" One more try." I said reassuring myself that the money was real. I pressed the daily button with shaky hands and waited.

But then, another error message flashed before my very eyes.

" Your account is insufficient."

" Get out of the way boy and stop wasting our time!" he said with a grumpy voice.

His muscular arms kicked me off the line and I fell to the dusty floors with my eyes fixed on him.

I watched as he pressed the number as the solar cash flew out. He let out a grin and looked at me

" That is how you command it, you don't coke down to the machine when you don't have anything to command." he ranted.

I grabbed my phone and looked at the message I got from the bank.

Was this a fake alert?

Or was Derek planning another staunt?

[ AFTER WAITING FOR HOURS ]

My phone rang several times and I saw it was Tracy. I knew she was either calling because I had left without talking to her or because she was worried.

I looked at my rusty and old ATM. I have had it for a very long time. I looked at the bubbling street and I felt the world was cruel.

I got up and decided to give it a list trial before heading home.

I slid the card into the machine and closed my eyes.

But then, I heard the gentle hum of the machine and the fast roll of something that sounded more like paper.

It was counting!

What?

My eyeslid flipped up as the money popped right out.

" Yeah! Yes!" I shouted a lot of attention towards me. I smiled as I pocketed the ten thousand dollar note.

Then it crossed my mind. I had seen the shoes and clothes Mrs Tracy wore when she went to plead for me at the university.

It was old, worn out and tattered. It was only right for me to appreciate her and get her another.

I walked down the stairs feeling like a king and waved a cab. " Where to kid?" the driver who had burnt teeth from smoking looked at me.

" Do you know the most exotic and expensive boutique in town?" I asked staring at him.

I saw the way he looked at me and laughed. " Why don't you sow your clothes according to your size kid? You can't afford any of those fancy dresses." He replied laughing weirdly.

" Why don't you mind your business and drive me down there?" I said making him shut the hell up.

The car ignited and soon we were on our way to the most exotic boutique.

I hailed the cab and headed to the most exotic boutique in town, feeling like a million bucks – or rather, two million bucks. The driver's skepticism only fueled my determination to splurge on something extraordinary. As we arrived at the boutique, I could feel my excitement building up. I was going to get Mrs. Tracy the most stunning outfit, something that would make her feel like royalty.

I stepped into the boutique, and my eyes widened in awe. The racks were filled with designer dresses, sparkling jewelry, and luxurious accessories. I approached the sales associate, a stylish woman with a warm smile.

"Hello, sir! Welcome to our boutique. How may I assist you today?" she asked, eyeing my casual attire with a hint of curiosity.

"I'm looking for something special," I said, my eyes scanning the racks. "Something that will catch the eye. I want to buy a gift for someone very special."

The sales associate's face lit up with interest. "Well, we have just the thing. Follow me, please." she said slowly glancing at my faded outfit

She led me to a section of the boutique that seemed to be reserved for the crème de la crème of fashion. I gasped as I saw the prices, but I didn't care. I was on a mission to find the perfect gift.

As I browsed through the racks, the sales associate told me about the designers, the fabrics, and the inspiration behind each piece. I was impressed by her knowledge and passion for fashion.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I found it – the perfect outfit. It was a stunning evening gown, with intricate lace details and a subtle sparkle that seemed to dance in the light.

"This is it," I said, my heart racing with excitement. "I'll take it."

The sales associate smiled, clearly pleased with my choice. "Excellent taste, sir. I'll get you set up with the alterations and the accessories."

As I waited for the sales associate to ring up my purchase, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. I was doing something special for someone who truly deserved it.

But then the door spring opened and my smile faded into anger.

" And what is a church rat doing in an expensive boutique such as this?" The voice said walking towards me

Sometimes making others happy was not an easy task. All I ever wanted was to make her happy. It was the only thing I could think about. I wanted to be the better son to her and make sure she lives happily, but I was not sure if I was doing the right thing by asking her not to marry Derek's family. It runs in the genes. What if Derek's father was exactly like his son? I rubbed my palms together as if the friction would burn away the unease in my chest. The bench beneath me felt colder than usual, the kind of cold that reminded you that you weren’t in control. The system’s message wouldn’t stop flashing in my mind, and the words might as well have been branded into my skull.Final Task. End of Semester. Life or Death.I was thrilled to be back in the game, but also I was not. Maybe I needed to give my mother more money. Something that she won't see the need to have any man in her life. Or was she lonely? I remembered what Selene had said. I had never asked her about her late husba

I stared at the message the system had given, and I could barely believe what I was seeing. I rubbed my temples gently and sat down. It was nearly some days away from us having the final exam for the semester before the break. I looked at the list of gamers that were remaining, and I could see that the number had drastically reduced compared to the last time I was still in the system. ******************************************************************It has been days since I have been hiding from my mother. I tried as much as possible to avoid any conversation that was going to involve Derek's father. Each time she tried to bring it up, I either picked up an imaginary call or I just told her I had an assignment to run. A part of me had missed her, but then I didn't think a man like Derek's father was the right man for her. Maybe I was still holding the grudges I had for his son that I failed to see that he was the key to my mother's happiness. I noticed Mrs. Tracy had been sa

  • chapter one hundred and three

I was not sure if I was selfish or if I was just being paranoid. The system has made sure I learn that trust is rare. Maybe this was why I was always so defensive. I have learned to always stand up for myself, and I don't have to depend on others. That was the only way I got to where I am today. I landed on my bed, shutting my eyes. The drug I brought earlier was working now. I felt drowsy and weak. I heard a slight knock on the door. "Come in," I said, trying to sit up. The door opened and Selena walked in. Her eyes nearly popped out of their sockets when she saw the marks on her face. "Did you fight at school?" she asked, grabbing my face like she was my girlfriend. "It will heal," I replied, forcing a smile. "This is going to scar if it is not properly taken care of. Where is the medic kit?" Her eyes darted through my rooms. Selene knows where I keep most of my things, and she doesn't need my permission to go and get whatever she needs. We were so close now that she felt

I walked into the nearest pharmacy, and I was greeted by a petite lady. Almost the same age as me. "How can I..." She paused when I removed the hoodie off my face. "Are you having any severe headaches?" She asked, staring through the mirror that was separating us both. "Yeah, can I get something for that?" She nodded and immediately prescribed me some drugs to use. "Thank you." I looked up with a smile on my face before I drew the hoodie down again. The thought of going home crossed my mind, but then I was going to have to thrash whatever was going on out with my mother. I looked at my phone, and I was seeing that she had called for the twentieth time today. I knew she was going to be worried, but maybe making her a little worried meant a lot to me. I would know if she was going to pick me or if she was going to pick Derek's father. I heaved gently, and I was soon on my way home. I thrust the gate open, and I saw a black Lexus car parked right outside the compound. I removed

My head hurts, and my lips definitely hurt more. I looked at the scattered tables in front of me, and I shook my head. I was better than this. I didn't want to fight him at first, but when I remembered everything that had gone on between the two of us, I had more reason to thrust my fist at his face. Now, things are even worse. I mean, his father was getting married to Mrs. Tracy. How do I tell my mother that she was making the biggest mistake of her life?I know I was being selfish telling her to let go of her happiness for mine. I grabbed my books, shoving them into my bag at the thought of both of them walking down the altar, hand in hand and smiling at themselves. I shrugged as I pictured it in my head. I knew I had to stop it. But how can I? I still remember Mrs. Tracy singing his praises at the dining table this morning. I should have known, should have been more observant, but then I had a lot to worry about. The system was back, which means more missions for me, and there

I don't know if getting angry with her over this was right. My mother had never hidden anything from me. I scoffed as I looked at the mirror right in front of me. My lips were bruised, and there was a slight bruise on my face too. It stung as I tried to apply the balm I had inside my backpack. I remembered Selena giving them to me. My phone kept ringing and making all kinds of funny sounds. I don't need to be told what is going on. I knew the sound of the system message by now. I didn't bother to take a look at it. I could guess what was going on. The students were already tweeting about the fight between us. I rested my back on the ceramic walls. God! I felt like an idiot. My mother was dating his father and didn't know. I could remember each time I entered her room, she was always on a call.I went back each time thinking that she was on a business call.
