Chapter 141.

Victoria stayed by his side, her hand resting over his as if her touch alone could hold him here.

Ethan’s breathing was uneven, his chest rising and falling too slowly, too painfully.

“Don’t close your eyes,” she whispered, her voice shaking despite her efforts to sound calm. “Stay with me, Ethan. Please.”

He turned his head slightly, meeting her eyes. Even through the haze of pain, he saw the fear she was trying so hard to hide. A faint smile tugged at his lips, weak but real.

“You’re stronger than me right now,” he murmured.

“Don’t say that,” she said quickly, a tear slipping down before she could stop it. She wiped it away with the back of her hand, angry at herself for letting it show. “You’re going to make it through this. You have to. Not just for you, but for us.”

Ethan reached for her hand, his grip unsteady but desperate.

“Victoria… if I don’t…”

“No.” She cut him off, her voice firm, almost fierce. She shook her head, holding his hand tightly against her chest

“I don’t have much time to waste, Mr. President. So what’s your response, yes or no?” Ethan asked, his voice low, controlled. The president exhaled a long, weary sigh. His shoulders slumped. “Deal… it’s a yes.”A slow, mischievous smile curved Ethan’s lips. Everything was unfolding exactly as he had planned.“Do we need to sign any documents?” the president asked quietly, desperation leaking into his tone.Ethan chuckled. “Sign any documents? For what?”He took a step closer, eyes glinting with wicked amusement.“When I already have a recording of you admitting to attempted murder… and a lovely video of you working with Jack to destroy me?” Ethan tilted his head, smiling wider. “Misbehave, and with a snap of my fingers, everything goes public.”The president swallowed hard as Ethan’s smile deepened, dark and triumphant.Ethan slid his hands into his pockets, watching him with the calm patience of a predator that already knew the outcome. “Good,” he murmured. “Now that we understand

The President reached for the recorder, but Ethan shifted back smoothly, brushing his hand away with a soft laugh.“Not so fast,” Ethan said.“H–how could you turn this honest meeting into this, Ethan?” the President snapped, voice trembling. “I came here to make peace. Nothing but peace!”“And that’s exactly what we’re doing,” Ethan replied, stepping closer. His voice dropped, calm and unsettling. “We’re making peace… just in my terms.”The President dragged a hand through his hair, frustration clawing at him. He felt unsteady, like the ground was tilting beneath him. Then something snapped. He lunged forward and grabbed Ethan by the collar, yanking him close.Immediately, guns clicked.Ethan’s men raised their weapons, laser-focused on the President’s skull. The President froze, breath caught in his throat. He glanced around slowly, one wrong twitch and his brains would be on the tiles.Ethan lifted two fingers. A silent command. His men lowered their guns, but only a little, still

Instead, he inhaled, held the breath tight in his chest… and pressed call. The phone rang, vibrating angrily against the desk, but Ethan didn’t pick up.The President hissed under his breath and dialed again. Still nothing.Jaw tight, he switched to voicemail.“It’s me….the President. We need to meet. Call me back.”He ended the recording and let the phone drop from his hand. His party members were demanding answers, and he needed to give them something, anything.soon. If only Jack were still here. Jack knew Ethan’s weaknesses, knew how to break him open. The President didn’t. And that ignorance was dangerous. He groaned and lifted the phone again, dialing Ethan’s number one more time.No answer. Again. The silence on the other end felt louder than any threat. He exhaled sharply and jabbed another button on his phone.“Get in here,” he ordered. One of his men stepped into the room immediately, posture straight, eyes alert.“Sir?”“Drive me to Ethan’s house,” the President said. The g

Chapter 168.The early morning sun slipped through the curtains and hit Victoria’s eyes. She groaned softly, stretching her limbs before sitting up. Instinctively, she checked the time on her phone, then glanced over her shoulder.Ethan was still asleep, breathing quietly, completely unaware.Moving carefully, she slipped out of bed and tiptoed toward the bathroom. She closed the door behind her, lowered the toilet lid, and sat down. Her fingers trembled slightly as she dialed a number. The moment the call connected, she cupped her hand over her mouth to muffle her voice.“Yes… Jack’s been fed enough,” she whispered.A pause. Heavy breathing on the other end.“Are you sure we should stick to this plan?” she asked, her voice barely audible.“Yes,” the man replied, his deep voice firm, leaving no room for hesitation.Victoria swallowed hard and nodded, even though he couldn’t see her. “Be careful. Ethan must not find out.”She ended the call quickly and lowered the phone. The moment V

Chapter 167.Around the table, the members exchanged glances, silent, heavy, loaded. A few gave the chairman a curt nod, as if giving permission for the final blow. The chairman cleared his throat, eyes steady on the president.“You will apologize to General Ethan.”The president’s eyes snapped wide, his breath catching in his throat. “You can’t do this to me,” he choked out, voice thinning with disbelief. But the chairman didn’t flinch. “It’s the only option,” he said, slow and deliberate, as if he’d rehearsed the line a hundred times. “The people adore Ethan. And everyone knows your relationship with him is… strained. If we want any chance of keeping you afloat, you need him. Yes, we know he can’t campaign for you, but you two must appear aligned.”The president’s gaze darted from face to face, searching…begging…for a glimmer of sympathy. A softened stare. A hesitant frown. Anything. He found none.Every member in the room watched him with the quiet satisfaction of predators finall

Chapter 166.The president stared at his phone, the message blurring slightly as the vodka still pulsed in his veins. His party was demanding an urgent meeting. Urgent. That word alone told him nothing good was waiting on the other side of that room. Before he could think further, the phone buzzed again. A call.He forced his voice steady and answered.“Mr. President,” the minister of information said in a low, tense rush, “you need to come now. I tried to explain that you were occupied, but they insisted. They won’t take no.”The president nodded reflexively, though the man couldn’t see him. “I’m on my way,” he muttered, then ended the call.Frustration surged. He flung the phone onto the couch and dragged both hands over his face, a raw groan escaping his throat. For a moment, he just sat there, head heavy, heart pounding, knowing he was about to walk straight into a storm. He pushed himself to his feet, swaying just slightly before catching his balance. The room felt colder now,
