Three years ago, the strongest Sovereigns in the hidden world had to sacrifice three entire cities just to shatter my Divine Core. Today, a man wearing cheap cologne and an ugly designer suit was trying to buy my wife.
Ten million dollars, Aria," Julian Cross said, leaning back on the white leather sofa of the Sterling Manor. He shook his whiskey glass and smiled as if it was his own. My last offer is to bail out Sterling Corp., and in return you sign over fifty-one percent of the shares.
He stopped, his hungry eyes scouring her body up and down. “Oh, and one more thing; you divorce this piece of trash.”
Julian jabbed his shorn finger at me.
I didn't look up. I simply continued to wipe the glass coffee table with a damp cloth. I had no memory of my own face. I had no memory of my own face. I was Kaelen Vance, the infamous "live-in loser" of Ravenwood City. I was nothing but a beggar to the world, and a beautiful granddaughter of Old Man Sterling was forced to marry me before his death.
Aria's voice was as cold as cracked ice. "Julian. With her arms folded, she stood by the window. Even stressed and exhausted, my wife was breathtaking. Her dark hair cascaded over her shoulders, and her black business suit hugged her perfect figure. However, her eyes blazed with rage. " Sterling Corp is not for sale. And my marriage, no matter how much of a joke it is, is none of your business. Get out of my house."
The boy Julian stood up and sneered. He tightened his suit jacket, his face becoming ugly. You're playing a dangerous game, Aria; you're playing a dangerous game. You have no money, no allies, and a husband who can't even look me in the eye.
He went by me and deliberately kicked the bucket of soapy water I was holding. It's all over the pricey carpet and splattered on my cheap sneakers.
I ceased cleaning the table.
Julian leaned down, putting his face inches from mine. Clean that up, trash. And listen well: By midnight tonight, Aria will be in my bed, begging me for that money, and you will be back in the gutters where you belong.
My eyes darted to his. The eyes of the "trash husband" were dead and hollow, but for a split second they were not. Instead, the chill, blood-filled gaze of the Asura oozed through.
In fact, Julian was about to step back, but his face turned pale. His heart suddenly beat against his ribs, and he gasped. Something in his primitive instinct told him that there was a monster in front of him, but he couldn't tell him why.
I blinked, hiding the killing intent, and went back to picking up the bucket.
I'm sorry I flinched," Julian grumbled, "G-Get out of my way. He ran towards the door. “This is not something you will want to do, Aria!
The front door was slammed shut.
The large living room was completely quiet. I took a towel out of my pocket and began to mop up the spilled water.
“NO!” Aria said sharply.
I looked up. She was looking at me, and her fists were clenched with her knuckles white. She was filled with disappointment, and it was pouring out of her.
He kicked your water; he insulted you to your face. “He spoke about taking your wife,” Aria grumbled. "And you just take it? Have no pride, Kaelen? Can't you stand up like a man, just once?"
It's just water, Aria," I said calmly, wringing out the towel. "And his words don't mean anything."
She turned away. "You are unbelievable. She picked up her briefcase from the counter. I don't know why my grandfather picked you. I'm going to the office; don't wait for me.
She walked away without turning around.
As she drove through the driveway, her demeanor grew cold, and my tranquility was replaced by icy silence.
Aria believed that I was a coward. She believed I was weak since I didn't yell or throw a punch.
However, a dragon doesn't bark at a barking dog. It simply bites off its head.
I shut my eyes and gazed within. It was as if there was nothing inside of me except broken glass, deep inside my chest where a blazing, golden Divine Core used to reside. My closest brother, my comrade in arms, my Valerius Thorne, had poisoned me and ripped my core out and left me to rot in the slums. He took my power and became a Supreme Sovereign, a god among men.
I had to act the fool for three years. I had to let ants such as Julian Cross walk on my shoes, so if I showed any of my old aura, then Valerius's assassins would find me and kill me.
However, it was time to play dead.
Last night, the old man with the broken legs, who swept the streets of the slums, had finally broken the seal on my broken body. He showed me something that the hidden world feared more than anything else.
The Abyssal Devouring Art.
I didn't have to meditate for years to build my core. All I had to do was feed it.
I tossed the dirty towel on the ground, picked up my coat, and left through the back door. It was time to go grocery shopping.
The alley behind the local market was dark and had a foul odor of rotting garbage. It was a quick route I would take daily.
Today, it wasn't empty.
Three guys emerged from behind a dumpster, blocking my way. Two more stepped off the street entrance behind me and blocked my way. They were dark-hooded and carrying heavy iron pipes. The big guy, who was its leader, with a scar across his neck, was flipping a six-inch hunting knife in his hand.
Well, well," said the scarred man, with yellow teeth. Julian Cross sends his regards, Mr. Vance.
He sent five of you? I asked with a flat voice, "For me?"
The leader chuckled as he approached, "Mr. Cross says to break both legs and smash your teeth in. But don't worry, we'll make it hurt; maybe if you beg, I'll only break one leg.
"Leave," I said. It was no warning. It was a fact. "Walk away right now, and you get to keep your lives.
The thugs stared at me before bursting into loud laughter.
One of the guys behind me snarked, "The trash is trying to act tough! He pitched his iron pipe right into the back of my head.
I didn't turn around.
I just moved a little to the left. The big iron pipe whistled by my ear, only just missing. I was able to reach back before the thug could get his balance and grab him by the throat and slam his face into the brick wall.
CRACK.
His nose broke and he fell to the ground, unconscious.
The giggles stopped immediately.
The leader, scarred, lunged at me, the hunting knife pointing at my belly and roaring, "Kill him! The leader was scarred and lunged at me with the hunting knife pointing at my belly and roaring, "Kill him!
I moved. Not as fast as I used to be, but as efficient as I can be. I went to his guard and took his knife wrist in my left hand and twisted.
There was a sickening snap, and his wrist split in half. The knife fell from his hand. I had grabbed it in my right hand before it struck the ground and slammed the handle into the throat of the third thug attacking me.
Two seconds. Three men down.
The other two thugs stood in frozen horror. This wasn't a fight. This was a slaughter, indeed. The "useless" husband was prowling like an experienced assassin.
One of them whispered, "Monster..." and turned and ran away, putting down his pipe.
I whispered, "Too late.
I didn't go after them. I just lifted my right hand and used the Abyssal Devouring Art.
A black fog came out of my hand. The temperature in the alley dropped to freezing. The black mist leapt like vipers and encircled the two men who were running away. They shrieked, but it was silenced immediately.
They all shriveled on the spot. The black mist violently ripped the life force and a little bit of energy out of their bodies and came back to me.
I shrieked when the raw energy surged through me. It blitzed right into my chest, twisting around the broken bits of my heart. One little, little, little piece of my shattered heart stuck together.
Power. Real power.
I opened my eyes. They blazed with a dim, menacing crimson glow. The art worked. The more enemies I killed, the stronger I would become. I could take my way back up to the top of the world.
Suddenly, a cell phone rang.
It was coming from the pocket of the pocket-knuckled scarred leader lying on the ground, clutching his broken wrist and crying in fear.
I came up to him, put my hand in his pocket, and retrieved the telephone. The caller ID said Julian Cross.
I dialed the answer and placed it to my ear.
"Is it done?" Julian's cocky voice was heard through the speaker. Do the legs of the trash break?
I didn't say anything.
“Listen to me,” Julian went on, laughing grimly. I took a picture of his bloody face, and I sent it to her. I paid her security guards; she's going to be very... cooperative in about five minutes. I'm standing outside the private office of Aria right now.
My eyes narrowed. My eyes turned crimson, and my pupils were on fire.
“Oh, and don't forget to wake Kaelen up to check out the pictures,” Julian added.
"Julian," I spoke. My voice was a growl that vibrated and was not human.
No one's voice on the other end of the telephone. Julian's breath hitched.
I whispered into the phone, "If you touch a single hair on her head, I will not only kill you, I will wipe out your entire bloodline from the face of the earth.
I broke the phone in my hand and dropped the broken plastic on the dying thug's chest. I looked towards the money district.
I had five minutes to save my wife.
And Julian Cross had five minutes left to live.

The Vanguard’s Descent
The golden light didn't just illuminate the ruined study; it crushed it.All other bookshelves crumbled to dust. The whole floor of the marble was crushed, and we were a foot deeper into the basement of the house. The weight of the aura that was pouring through the hole in the space was like a mountain had fallen on my shoulders.Behind me, Aria let out a pained gasp, her knees buckling under the pressure. I immediately activated the Abyssal mist, creating a void that was enough to protect her from the crushing blow.A thick, armoured boot was placed onto the fractured marble from the centre of the white portal. The man who had walked through the rift was seven feet tall, dressed in a white suit that was perfectly tailored with golden armour plating lining it. He had a sickeningly pure, arrogant light in his eyes, and his hair was combed back.Malakor. The first sword of the Apex Syndicate. He was a Tier 6 powerhouse. One of the men who had been there and laughed when Valerius Thorne
The Grandmaster's Greed
I didn't open the front doors of the villa. I ran straight through the brick wall next to them.I rushed into the grand foyer, and dust and broken masonry erupted. The air was thick and heavy inside the house, the smell of which was even fouler than the odour of a freshly dug grave. It was the crushing weight of an aura of Tier 4, a weight that was meant to push weaker cultivators to their knees. My second-layer core was spinning so hard it was pumping dark crimson energy through my veins. Passively, the Abyssal Devouring Art did not let the gravity destroy me, making the way clear."Aria!" I roared and followed the blinding silver light down the hallway. It took me 2 seconds to get to the study. The door was already made into sawdust, a thick mahogany door. The inside of the room was in shambles. Bookshelves were broken, and the old desk was reduced to firewood. Aria was now on her knees, with her left hand bleeding and held to her chest, in the middle of the devastation. Her beautif
A True Master’s Despair
"A true master?" I echoed, my voice flat, completely unimpressed by the boiling, toxic aura rolling off the Tier 3 Grand Elder. "I've slaughtered deities who could sweep the floor better than you."The Elder's eyes became venomous slits. “Arrogant trash, your First Layer core is nothing more than a flickering candle; let me extinguish it.”He vanished. He didn't run; it was just the force of his Qi that moved him forward, just like teleportation. The ground beneath him that he stood on crumbled to form a pit of mud. The green light was sickening as his jagged, poisoned longsword cut right through to my neck.He was very quick! This strike was death to anyone else in Ravenwood City.I had been involved in wars in worlds where time had become a weapon, though.I didn't attempt to block. A Tier 3 weapon could not be used to hit My First Layer core. Rather, I just bent my head back slightly, a mere inch or so.The blade was poised to kill me, to cut a single strand of my wet hair as it wh
A One-Man Slaughterhouse
I pushed open the heavy oak doors of the villa and stepped out into the freezing rain. The manicured lawns of the Sterling estate had become a muddy chaos of a war zone. There were 200 mercenaries in a huge semi-circle around the house. The dozens of headlights of cars and SUVs blazed in my direction with a flash of light. My cheap dress shirt was drenched with rain. There I was, with no weapons, looking down a row of assault rifles, machetes, and iron pipes.Arthur Cross was in the center of the mob, standing on the hood of a black armored truck. He appeared older and much more out of it than the last time I saw him at a corporate gala. His eyes were bloodshot, totally furious at the death of his only son.“You went out alone, you did! The thunderous voices of Arthur and his men were heard over a megaphone. He pointed at me with his shivering finger. Vance, where's the bitch? Drag Aria out here now, and I may kill you soon!I didn't raise my voice. I didn't need to. I tapped a bit of
The Matriarch Awakens
The thick glass windows of the bedroom began to spiderweb with cracks. The burning silver crest on Aria's forehead wasn't a problem anymore; it was a scream. The pressure of the wave was the old pressure that had been here before, and it was suffocating the room, pushing the heavy oak furniture back.If that aura crossed the walls of this villa, all the secret societies, all the supernatural predators, and all the corrupt sovereigns within a thousand miles would feel it. They would come together like locusts to take her to themselves at Ravenwood City.I couldn't let that happen. Never when my heart was still broken.I moved. I scrambled onto the large king-sized bed, straddled her waist, and pinned her flailing body down. The heat from her skin was so hot that it would melt steel.I whispered, "Hold on, Aria," my eyes glaring a cruel crimson.I slapped my right hand right on the burning silver crest of her forehead. As soon as my skin brushed against hers, the old energy rebelled, ja
The Crimson Lotus
The masked assassin did not waste time with monologues. He simply vanished from where he stood. The air was filled with the pungent and sweet aroma of poisoned blades cutting through the air. My right side was instantly met by the Tier 2 cultivator, who was standing back up by my side, with his twin curved daggers directly at my throat and Aria's unprotected chest. He was fast. He was just a blurry mess of deadly crimson to any mortal eye.To me, he was swimming under water.I didn't panic. I didn't even pick up my wife. I just moved all of Aria's weight to my left arm and pulled her tight against my chest. With my free right hand, I reached out and casually caught the assassin’s right wrist in mid-air.Behind his red mask the assassin's eyes opened wide. He was trying to thrust his left dagger into my ribs, but I was in his guard, and I struck my knee hard into his stomach. There was a thunderous echo in the office. The assassin choked on his own blood, and his body bent in half from
