6 Testing The System

He was about to activate his system when Byron walked up to them. He had a smile on his face that didn't reach his eyes.

"Hey Raz, what's going on here?" He asked, placing his hand on the bulging arm of the man who was threatening James.

"This pest is bothering us," Raz replied,

"It's a lie! I'm not bothering them, I just want to have a handshake with you." James said, perfectly faking the act of a fanboy who just wants a handshake with his idol.

"Is that so?" Byron asked while smiling suspiciously at him,

"Yes."

"Raz? You should've just allowed him to come." Byron said to Raz,

Raz hung his head in shame. "I'm sorry boss, I just wanted to protect you in case he wanted to hurt you."

"Haha." Byron laughed half-heartedly, "I appreciate the effort but a young man who looks as weak as this can't even touch a hair on my head."

James raised his eyebrows in shock. 'Insulting me openly?... Well, that was expected, I look like crap but all that will end soon. Just let me acquire your power.'

Turning to James, Byron said with the same smug and annoying smile that had been on his face since he came down from the stage. "Sorry brother, my men here are a bit overprotective of me. I apologize on their behalf ."

"Hehe," James smiled with his eyes closed, "no problem."

"You wanted a handshake right?" Byron said and offered a hand to James.

"Yes." James' eyes lit up in excitement. His key to improvement was now in front of him, on a platter of gold.

James shook Byron's hand and smiled inwardly as the seconds counted down, he didn't notice the sardonic smile that had now appeared on Byron's face.

'Way to go!' James thought and tried to withdraw his hand but Byron refused to let go.

"Did you seriously think I wouldn't notice?" Byron asked James who now had a confused expression on his face,

'Did he notice?' James thought,

"N...Notice what?" James stuttered,

"Don't...Play...." Byron shifted his feet on the ground and pulled James towards himself. James was physically weak so he couldn't resist the pull as Byron turned and flung him across the room sending him crashing into a wall. "With meee!!!"

There were cracks in the walls and dust from the impact prevented people from seeing James's broken figure.

"Alright everyone, the weirdo has been taken care of. We can return to our matches." Byron said and gestured towards the men on the stage.

"No one hits me like that and gets away with it," James said softly as the dust cleared to reveal him standing unscathed.

Everyone was surprised.

"Oh yeah?" Byron said, his voice was a mixture of annoyance and surprise that James was able to survive the hit, "well you were just lucky to survive that. Why don't you survive this?"

As he was speaking, a large ball of spinning flames was forming on his palm.

'I've seen his stats and I know that in terms of strength and agility, he's superior to me. Why don't we turn the tables a bit?' James thought as Byron charged his spinning flames on his palm with irritation in his eyes. 'System, dump 15 points into strength and 15 points into agility.'

Byron wasn't expecting what happened next because while his hand was in mid-air preparing to launch a lethal spinning fireball at James. The young man had already sped past the firing range at impressive speed and was now close to Byron's body for an open punch.

Byron seemed to have noticed it because he tensed his body and prepared to receive the blow while allowing his fireball to go sailing in the air at nothing. James decided to give Byron a show as he coated his fist with spiky ice and punched Byron in the stomach with his newfound strength, sending Byron flying across the room and crashing into the wall on the other side.

"Why don't YOU survive this?" James said as the ice on his outstretched hand melted away.

The entire men in the room burst into applause after someone had gone to check Byron and confirmed his unconsciousness. James had officially won an unofficial duel by KO.

The man with spiky hair from earlier rushed over to James' side and lifted one of his hands. James was too elated by his win to bother with him. "And I present to you!! Our new dueling champion!!.."

He turned and whispered to James, "What's your name?"

"James. James Jade." James replied proudly. For the first time in his life, he wasn't the weak one, he wasn't the disadvantaged one. This system was a blessing to him. With this system, he would have his revenge on everyone who ever made his life miserable– but that would be after he had gotten out of this hell hole.

"James Jade!!!" The man yelled while the other men cheered and applauded James.

"This is bullshit!" They heard a voice and turned towards the person who said that,

He smells like trouble. You should send him away tonight."Rodney was slightly annoyed by this statement so he grabbed Octavius by his sleeve and pulled him closer, "I don't care whether you like him or not, he saved our lives during hunting and that's all that matters. If the best we can do for him at this moment is to offer him temporary accommodation then we'll do that. If you're not comfortable with that then you can go and hide your head under a rock."Octavius shrugged Rodney's hand off his sleeve

The bear growled at James and continued circling him. It seemed it was hesitating to attack him because he was stronger than the rest, it was looking for a suitable opening to launch its attack."I see..." James nodded slowly. "You can't reply to me... Well, no matter what your reply is, I won't accept it, that's because nothing can justify what you did here."With that last statement, James jumped toward the bear and the bear used that opportunity to jump towards him too.James was naturally faster than the bear, so it had already lost before the fight even began. James sailed through the air like a rocket and punched the bear under its jaw.The punch was so hard that the sound of cracking bone filled the air and no one needed to be told that James had cracked the skull of a monster bear with just his fists. The impact of James' punch did not end at the skull, it also delivered intense trauma to the bear's brain as the force from the punch threw it into the sky.The hunters couldn't
