06. Shopping with Leo

Reynard finished cleaning himself and immediately changed clothes, using a better and tidier suit of clothes.

His plan today was not to stay at home, but to go outside and interact with the villagers. He also had to buy some new clothes and replace the broken furniture in the house. Remember, he has 1,000,000 Mondelez gold coins in his system, so he doesn't have to worry about finances anymore.

It's just that he's still too small to do it all by himself, so he'll ask the villagers for help.

His little footsteps led him to a modest house just a short distance away from his home. The house in front of him was Owen's grandfather's house, the old man who used to help him.

"Grandpa! Grandpa Owen!" he shouted to Owen from the front yard.

The front door of the house opened, revealing an adult man dressed in sky-blue clothes, looking completely at odds with his stocky stature and fierce-looking face.

"Ah, Reynard!" The adult man was none other than Leo, Owen's youngest son. Leo was 25 years old, but because of his muscular physique, people who didn't know him would probably think he was in his thirties, plus there was a mustache and a thin beard on his face.

"Uncle Leo!" Reynard walked up to Leo, "is Owen's grandfather there?" He asked.

"Father is going to the neighboring village to do some things. What is it?" Leo asked back, Reynard didn't usually come to his house, so naturally he was curious.

"No, I think my bed mattress and the chair in the living room need to be replaced because they're broken. It just so happens that mom and dad have some savings, so I want to buy some furniture. But I can't do it alone, so I want grandpa to accompany me, but unfortunately he's not around..." he explained.

Leo raised a pair of eyebrows, "why does it have to be with father? How about just me? I happen to be bored at home."

Hearing that, Reynard's eyes immediately brightened, "Really? Should we leave now? Ah, I forgot to bring the money. I have to go back home to get the money first."

"Then let's go, at once!"

Reynard, accompanied by Leo, went back to his house to 'get' the money. In fact, he didn't need to, but he couldn't just take out money when he didn't have any money bags with him. Later Leo would wonder how he did such a magical thing, usually only Mages were capable of it.

He exchanged 10 system coins for 1,000 Mondelez gold coins. Usually ordinary people like villagers used bronze coins as transaction money, as not many people owned gold coins other than noble families.

The currency in Mondelez Kingdom is quite simple, 1 gold coin equals 100 silver coins, 1 silver coin equals 100 bronze coins. The price of rice per kilo is usually 2 bronze coins, so you can imagine how many kilos of rice can be bought with 1 gold coin.

Reynard tied his moneybag around his waist, he used a moneybag big enough to fit 1,000 gold coins inside.

"It turns out that your parents had a lot of savings too. It's good that they left all this for your needs, but I think we only need to buy some furniture to replace the broken ones. Furniture is relatively expensive anyway, so there's no need to use too much money," Leo said.

Reynard's late parents were known to be good at mixing with others as well as hardworking, the villagers of Oshley were no strangers to the two of them. That was also the reason why Leo didn't ask many questions when Reynard brought a bag of coins for shopping.

Reynard only replied to Leo's words with laughter, he remembered how 'Reynard's' parents treated their son. It could be said that the small family in the simple house Reynard now lived in was the perfect definition of a family. It was a far cry from what Reynard had experienced on Earth.

The distance from Oshley to the shopping center wasn't too far, although most young children would tire quickly after walking a few hundred meters. Of course Reynard did not belong to that group as he had extraordinary physical strength and endurance, better than most children his age, or even adults.

Leo himself was amazed when he saw that the little boy next to him didn't seem to be tired at all. At first he thought of carrying Reynard in case the boy got tired, but all the way Reynard kept exclaiming cheerfully, no sign of fatigue at all on his face.

It wasn't long before the two of them reached a shopping center. There were many people passing by, they came for the same purpose, shopping of course. There were also those who chose to trade, selling the products they made for people to buy.

"What do you want to buy?" asked Leo as he looked at Reynard. Reynard tapped his own chin, seemingly in thought, "I want to buy a new mattress, where can I buy one?"

"A new mattress? I know a good place." Leo took Reynard to a store he knew. Once there, they were greeted by a friendly shop assistant, "welcome, how can I help you?"

"We want to buy a mattress, please recommend some good ones." Leo represented Reynard to speak up, after all, who would have thought that a 7-year-old would actually be the one doing the shopping.

The clerk replied, "Well, then I'll recommend some that I hope are to your liking. Please follow me..." The clerk led the two of them into the store.

The clerk recommended some mattresses to Leo, Reynard on the other hand silently listened to the clerk's words without saying a word.

After a while, Leo glanced at Reynard, wanting to ask his opinion, "how is it? Which one do you think is good?"

"I choose this one and this one. Ah, can you ask the clerk to recommend a sofa for the living room and some other furniture? It looks like this shop sells quite a lot of products, so I thought to buy everything I need here..." Reynard said after taking in the entire room filled with home furnishings.

Leo furrowed his brow, "Are you sure? The stuff here is pretty good, but it's also a bit expensive compared to other places. A mattress alone probably costs over 10 silver coins."

Reynard nodded his head in response, "no problem, I have plenty of money."

Leo could only sigh, he asked the clerk about some other home furnishings. In the end Reynard bought a lot of things, not just a mattress like he had said at the beginning before entering the store.

As soon as the two of them left the store, the clerk thanked them with a beaming expression on his face. The reason he was so happy was because the person he had just served bought a lot of goods in the shop where he worked, so he earned a lot of commission because of it.

Leo on the other hand looked at Reynard with an incredulous look. He thought the bag of money he was carrying contained bronze coins and a few silver coins, but he was wrong. Who would have thought that the shabby-looking bag contained so many gold coins? He doubted even members of noble families could have that much money in their money bags.

'Is it possible that Claude and Silvy saved that much?' Leo muttered in his heart, Claude and Silvy were the names of Reynard's parents and Leo's friends. He knew very well how much of a saver the two of them were, it was just that he thought it was impossible for the two of them to save up so many gold coins, even if they spent a lifetime saving.

'Then where did all those gold coins come from?' Leo couldn't help but be curious about the origin of the Mondelez gold coins owned by Reynard. If Reynard was a grown man just like him, he could think of something reasonable about how he got all those gold coins, but right now Reynard was just a 7-year-old child.

Work? He wasn't sure a 7-year-old could do anything related to work.

Reynard raised his head, glancing at Leo who looked puzzled after seeing the contents of his money bag. "Uncle, you must be wondering where I got so much money from, right?"

"Hehehe... Is it that obvious? Well, I guess anyone would think the same thing as me. You're only 7 years old, there's no way you could have that much money even if you were born into a noble family. I know your parents like to save money, but at most they only have a few dozen silver coins. Where did all that money come from?" Leo expressed what he was thinking without hesitation to Reynard.

"I don't know myself. Two days ago I went to hide in an empty warehouse in the west, and I fell asleep there without realizing it. It seems that while I was asleep, someone entered the warehouse and held my head. From that moment on, my trauma instantly disappeared and I was able to live my days like a normal person. The next day I found a bag of gold coins in front of my bedroom window and a note that read 'use this money for all your needs'. I originally didn't intend to use all this money, but no one ever brought it even though I didn't take it. So I used the money this mysterious person gave me for my needs, after all, that mysterious person was trying to help me from the start-it seems like, so why should I hesitate to refuse his help?" Reynard explained all the 'lies' he had designed to Leo, hoping that the man would actually believe him.

But instead of Reynard's explanation, Leo was more focused on Reynard's way of speaking which sounded so mature and fluent for a child. "Hey, you sound like an adult you know. Your explanation is too easy to understand, and very detailed..."

Reynard raised his eyebrows, "eh?"
