Laughter spilled from Tiana's office like champagne from a shaken bottle, rich and effervescent in the late afternoon air.

She and Arturo sat across from each other, the warm glow of accomplishment painting their faces in golden hues.

Her black stiletto heels were kicked off carelessly under the mahogany desk, and a bottle of aged red wine stood half-empty between them.

Arturo looked every bit the powerful man he was in this moment. His senator's outfit was still crisp despite the long day, the navy blue fabric holding its perfect lines.

His red chieftain cap satcarefully on his graying head, a symbol of his traditional roots and political authority.

"You see, Tiana," he said, his deep voice carrying a note of satisfaction as he chuckled and reached for the wine bottle.

The liquid poured smoothly into her glass, the sound almost musical in the quiet office.

"When you play the game right, even your enemies will serve you. They become pawns without even realizing it."

Jalen stepped out of his car, shutting the door with an unusual gentleness, his thoughts already preoccupied with the stack of reports waiting on his desk. It was one of those mornings where nothing felt out of place, until he turned the corner that led into the executive lobby of Adesins Corporation and saw the last person he expected waiting at the reception.Mr. ElokaThe private investigator.Standing there calmly in his black jacket, arms crossed like he had all the time in the world.Jalen’s mood changed instantly. His steps slowed as he regarded the man coldly. Eloka nodded slightly in greeting, a neutral expression on his face.Jalen didn’t return the greeting. “Follow me,” he said curtly and walked past without another word.He had been patient for too long. It had been over a week since he assigned the man to find information, anything, on Arturo and his suspected links to Tiana. But Eloka had gone quiet, and Jalen had already made up his mind. He was going to send a messa

  • Chapter 39: The Wedding

The internet doesn’t forget. And it doesn’t forgive either. By the time it was 10AM that morning, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook were ablaze with a clip of Andrew Brooks — drunk, uncoordinated, shouting at a young waitress, slurring words and swinging hands. And in less than five minutes, people watched as two lounge security men dragged him out like a bag of shame.Different captions competed for attention:“The face of Black Blossom humiliating a waitress.”“From court victory to club disgrace—Andrew Brooks’ downward spiral.”“Why is Black Blossom still tied to this toxic clown?”It was like wildfire. Commenters tore through his reputation like it never existed. But the damage didn’t end there. That afternoon, at Black Blossom’s office, the boardroom was cold and tense. Four of the board members sat still, expressions unreadable, while Tiana stood at the head of the table, arms folded. One of the board members — Mr. Gideon, a sharp-tongued man with graying beards, cleared his th

  • Chapter 38: Meeting with Spider

The apartment was silent except for the low hum of the air conditioner humming gently above their heads. Evening light slipped through the floor-to-ceiling windows, coating everything in a warm golden haze. Jalen sat opposite Spider, his arms resting loosely on the arms of the leather chair, but his eyes carried the fire of a man who’d swallowed betrayal and now craved justice.Spider, tall, dark-skinned, face sharp like it was carved with razors, sat with one leg crossed over the other, his fingers clasped together. He said nothing, waiting, his silence saying more than any words could.Jalen finally leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, and sighed heavily. “I didn’t want to talk about this on the phone,” he said, his voice low but firm. “Some things are better said face to face.”Spider nodded once, slowly. “I figured.”Jalen's gaze was hard, deep with memories he had buried for too long. “It’s about the Brooks family. Tiana. Evelyn. And especially Andrew. That boy… that

Arturo’s POVThey forgot me.All of them. The city, the companies, the suits and the wolves who once gathered in my office to eat from the same table I built with my own hands. They acted like I was never here. Like I didn’t shape part of the skyline they now take pictures in front of.But the Adesinas? They didn’t just forget. They erased.I stood by the window of my penthouse apartment, arms behind my back, eyes staring into the stretch of night over the city. The lights blinked like small stars trapped in a cage, but to me, they looked like memories.Memories of a time when I was respected. Feared, even. A time when the name Arturo Bismark opened doors and silenced arguments. That time died the day Jalen’s father turned his back on me.It wasn’t just betrayal. It was slaughter. We had a vision, the Adesina patriarch and I. A merger so powerful it would’ve taken our companies global. We signed the early-stage MOU in a room filled with lawyers and champagne. My father, already gettin

The phone was pressed tightly to his ear, his voice low but laced with impatience."If by next week, you don't crack this thing open," Jalen said, his tone razor-sharp, "this job is off your table. Simple and final."There was a brief silence on the other end of the call, only the low hum of static in the background. The man on the other end, Jalen's private investigator—Mr. Eloka, seasoned but recently sloppy, cleared his throat nervously."Sir Jalen, I'm really trying my best here. These government records are not easy to access at all. Some of them are locked away in files that nobody can touch. I just need a little more time—""Time?" Jalen scoffed, cutting him off sharply. "You've had seven whole days already, Eloka. Seven complete days! This isn't some ghost I sent you to find. The man wore a red chieftain cap and senator's attire, live on national TV, standing right beside Tiana like some hidden godfather. Are you seriously telling me you still find out who he is?""I have a le

  • Chapter 35: When the Mask Falls Off

Tiana sat in the living room like a statue. Her hands clenched tightly into fists, her chest rising and falling as if the air had suddenly become scarce. Her entire body shook, not from fear, but from something far worse, betrayal.Still in the dark blue suit she wore from work, she hadn’t even thought of changing. The weight of what she saw earlier at the mall refused to leave her mind. Her mother. Laughing like a schoolgirl. With Arturo of all people. From the dining area came the unmistakable sound of cutlery clinking against a ceramic plate.“Why are you panting like a stray dog?” Andrew’s voice rang out, thick with a mouthful of rice and stew.Tiana said nothing. He continued, still chewing, “Did someone chase you home? Or your new boyfriend left you?”She shut her eyes, counted to five, and inhaled sharply. Not today.Andrew didn’t know anything. He didn’t understand anything. He wasn’t worth it.As far as she was concerned, Andrew’s main skill was eating. If there was a caree
