Abigail’s face scrunched instantly, as if someone had waved a bad odor directly under her nose. Her arms folded. Her head tilted. And her voice? Sharp.

“Mr. Man,” she snapped, “what part of leave me alone do you not understand? Get up. Go home. This isn’t some romantic drama. It’s pathetic.”

Mark Zhao blinked. His jaw clenched, but he tried to salvage his pride with a strained smile. “Abigail… you don’t mean that. I came here because I care. I brought you roses. A diamond ring. I...”

“I have a boyfriend,” she said flatly.

Dead silence. The air seemed to freeze around them.

Mark looked stunned. “You...what?”

“I. Have. A. Boyfriend,” Abigail repeated, each word slower and sharper than the last.

The small crowd that had gathered outside, watching like it was their daily dose of gossip TV, let out soft gasps. One woman even whispered, “Oof… brutal.”

Mark shook his head quickly, scanning the area. “Who? Who is he?! There’s no one here but you and—”

He paused.

Finally—finally—his gaze fell

  • 66: Dragged by Blood, Followed by Fire

Abigail stood there, rooted to the gleaming marble tiles of the Alfred Group’s, her eyes wide and disbelieving. Her aunt’s words still rang in her head. She wanted to believe it was an exaggeration. That her aunt, with her flair for melodrama, was simply being overemotional. But then came the hand. Her aunt’s grip landed on her shoulder and gave her a jarring shake.“Abigail, wake up!” she hissed. “This is not a bad PR week. This is not a delay in contract approvals. This is the end. Our family is standing on the edge of the street with one leg already in the gutter!”Abigail blinked rapidly. “That can’t be...”“You still think this is a misunderstanding?!” her aunt snapped. “Take a look at this!”She reached into her bag, took out some papers and flung them toward Abigail. The papers hit her in the chest with a light slap and scattered across the floor. Some floated.Abigail bent down, scooping them up with trembling hands. Her eyes scanned quickly, line after line of finance reports

  • 65: Blacklisted.

Abigail blinked, pulling the phone away from her ear as her aunt’s voice continued echoing in her skull like a megaphone possessed.“What the hell was that about?” she muttered.Kai tilted his head. “Sounded like the spirit of bankruptcy was chasing her.”Abigail tried to speak, but her aunt’s last words rang back in her ears: “Get back to the company now before everything crashes because of your stupidity!”Before she could form a question, the call ended abruptly, followed by a string of curses that made her cringe.“She hung up on me,” she said, still trying to piece it all together.Kai raised a brow. “So… we’re skipping dinner?”Abigail sighed, running a hand through her hair and giving him an apologetic look. “I’m sorry, but… yeah. Apparently I just caused a corporate earthquake.”Kai smiled, unbothered. “Hey, at least we got free entertainment first.”Without another word, Abigail spun the car around and sped back toward the Alfred Group headquarters.Dinner could wait.Disaste

  • 64: Crushed Egos and Diamond Trick

Mark was staring at Kai with fire in his eyes and pride stitched to his chest.“That ring is real!” he barked, marching over and grabbing the box off the ground. “It’s made of pure diamond, imported directly from a designer in Switzerland! Do you even know how rare this cut is?!”Kai arched a brow, then stepped forward and plucked the ring right out of Mark’s hand like he was taking candy from a dramatic toddler.“Switzerland?” Kai repeated, twirling the ring between his fingers with a grin. “Yeah, I heard they export world-class cheese… and apparently, overpriced mall jewelry.”Mark’s nostrils flared. “It’s authentic!”Kai held the ring up like a scientist preparing for an experiment. “Alright, let’s test that, shall we?”The crowd that hadn’t yet dispersed leaned in, hungry for more.Kai grinned wider. “If it’s made of real diamond… this shouldn’t be possible.”Then, right there, under the glowing lights, in front of some of Abigail’s staff and the universe itself, Kai pressed the r

  • 62: New Entrance.

The moment the door slammed shut behind her aunt, Abigail let out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding. Her shoulders sagged as the room settled into a much quieter and considerably less toxic atmosphere. She turned to Kai slowly. “Thanks,” she said softly, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, not quite meeting his eyes. “For… that.”Kai gave her a lazy smile. “Anytime. Family drama’s my specialty.”Abigail almost smiled but then her lips thinned. She suddenly turned around, walking toward her desk with crossed arms and that distinct silence that only meant one thing.Tantrum loading.Kai blinked, sensing it instantly. “Oh boy…”“I don’t want to see you,” Abigail muttered, her back still facing him. “You shouldn’t even be here.”Kai tilted his head, amused. “That’s not what your aunt said. She made it very clear I was the center of the conversation.”“You know what I mean,” she snapped, spinning around now, hands on her hips. “Where the hell have you been for the past

  • 61: Office Drama.

Abigail’s aunt didn’t budge. She stood there, face flushed with rage, hand still dramatically frozen mid-point in Kai’s direction like she’d rehearsed the move in front of a mirror.“How dare you tell me to leave?” she barked, her voice echoing through the office and Kai grinned before taking a seat, “This is my niece’s office! Not some clubhouse for arrogant, sharp-mouthed men who think power gives them permission to stomp around wherever they please!”Abigail stood up quickly. “Aunt...please, let’s not..”“Be quiet, Abigail!” her aunt snapped without looking at her. “You’ve embarrassed me enough already today!”Abigail flinched, guilt clouding her eyes. She didn’t even meet Kai’s gaze. Her aunt turned fully to him now, arms folded, eyes narrowed. “I don’t care who you are or what title you’ve slapped onto yourself. You don’t speak to me like that, and you certainly don’t waltz in here as if you belong.”Kai didn’t stand. He didn’t even lean forward. He just remained casually seated,

  • 60: Drama & Slander.

Kai stood by the door, still as stone, listening.Inside, voices clashed, one soft and defensive, the other loud, shrill, and soaked in arrogance.“So what if he’s rich? So what if you like him? Love doesn’t pay the bills, Abigail!” the voice snapped. “You still think you have time to play fairy tale in this city? Grow up! Marry into the Zhao family, secure the partnership, and this company will soar beyond what your tiny brain can imagine.”Kai’s brow twitched. He didn't need to see her face to know the kind of woman she was and judging from her voice, he could bet it was that same arrogant money hungry woman from the day Abigail hurriedly called him over.Abigail’s voice came next, calm but firm. “We don’t need the Zhao family. I’ve signed three expansion deals this month without their name. I won’t marry anyone just to strengthen the board’s ego.”There was a slam, the sound of palms hitting the table.“Is this still about that peacock you brought here last time? That arrogant stra

  • 59: To Abigail.

Kai stood in the middle of the blood-soaked place, surrounded by broken concrete, and corpses that hadn't even finished cooling. His jaw ticked as he exhaled sharply through his nose, eyes scanning the carnage one last time.“Damn it,” he muttered under his breath, shoving his hand through his hair.He glanced around again, shaking his head slightly.“They really thought this would work?”He sighed, kicked one of the motionless bodies out of his way, and muttered, “I hope whoever sent you is watching this. Take notes. Next time, send someone with a brain.”He stepped out into the open air, the evening breeze brushing against his sweat-dampened shirt as he headed toward his car. He could still feel the lingering warmth of the fire energy in his limbs, the shadow essence pulsing quietly through his core. The fight had ended, but his spirit was still coiled, ready for more.Kai opened the car door, slid into the driver’s seat, and grabbed his phone. He had one call to make.Ella.He hit

  • 58: Blood on Arrival

Kai gripped the steering wheel tighter as the city blurred past him. The car, a matte black Shadow V12, a rare custom-built beast known only to the highest-ranking families in Dominus City, roared down the empty expressway like it had something to prove. His eyes didn’t blink, didn’t shift. His mind was locked.Ella’s voice still resonated in his head, laced with panic. Something was wrong. He could feel it in his bones. The live location she had sent stared at him from his phone, a red dot dragging him closer to an abandoned district on the far edge of the city. The industrial zone, long condemned, filled with collapsing warehouses and shadows no one wanted to investigate.Kai’s foot pressed harder on the gas.A patrol car that had pulled out from a side street saw him approaching and immediately reversed back into the alley. No sirens. No lights. No attempt to stop him. They saw the Blackwood insignia on the license plate and wisely chose survival over duty.No one chased a Blackwoo
