The scene outside Zhenghua Imperial had shifted from elite tension to pure chaos within minutes. Flashing red and blue lights painted the marble floors. The glass doors whooshed open and in came six officers, armored up, brows low, batons swinging slightly at their hips. They weren’t here to negotiate.

“Zhao Mark?” the lead officer called.

Mark took a step back, sweat already rolling down his temple. “Wait—hold on. This is a misunderstanding. I’m Mark Zhao. Zhao. As in the Zhao family. You don’t just arrest people like me.”

“Funny,” the officer said dryly. “You just made it easier to find you.”

Before Mark could blink, his hands were twisted behind his back and the cuffs locked in with a loud click.

“What the hell?!” he yelled. “Do you know who I am?! I’m the son of Zhao Guohai! This is police brutality! This is—this is TREASON!”

From the far side, Kai watched the spectacle unfold, arms folded, face calm… and smiling.

Mark caught the grin and thrashed harder. “What the f*ck are

  • 243: Stepping In.

Abigail and Kai stood side by side in silence, both staring at the massive gate of the Immortal Forging Sect, each lost in their own thoughts. The air around the sect was charged, filled with an invisible pressure that weighed down on anyone who stepped close. Every person waiting nearby, from hopeful merchants to wandering cultivators, wore either nervous anticipation or raw desperation on their faces. And here they were, two outsiders with nothing but the clothes on their backs, a fiery sword Zora had tossed to Abigail, and a vague command to “figure it out.”For a long moment, neither spoke. Then Kai broke the silence, his voice low and edged with resignation. “We can stand here all day, but staring at the gates won’t get us in. We need to try something.”Abigail sighed, clutching the hilt of her new sword a little tighter. “But what exactly do we offer? Zora dumped us here with nothing. No introductions, no supplies, no favors to trade. How are we supposed to even step inside, let

(The Next Day)The next day came as quickly as the last day went by, and it was almost as though time itself couldn’t wait to drag them into chaos. The morning air carried a strange heaviness, one that Kai noticed the moment he woke up. There was no peace anymore. Yesterday there were lessons, roasts, and scrolls. Today, it was stepping into the real fire. The three stood ready at the house courtyard, bags packed, weapons or lack of them prepared. Zora, of course, wasn’t carrying anything except that smug grin of hers and an aura that screamed death. She stretched lazily, yawned as though the journey ahead bored her already, then tossed something toward Abigail with the carelessness of someone flicking away a candy wrapper. It landed in Abigail’s arms with surprising weight. She staggered slightly before steadying herself, eyes widening when she saw what it was, it was a sword. Not just any sword. A red fiery blade, its surface rippling faintly like molten steel locked in perpetual mo

Zora grinned, her gaze dropped, resting deliberately on his right eye. That strange eye.The one that glowed faintly even when he wasn’t doing anything. The one that made people uncomfortable without knowing why.She clicked her tongue softly, her arms crossed."You know, I’ve been watching that damn eye of yours since the day it opened," she said coolly.Kai tilted his head. "My eye?"Zora nodded, her tone casual but her eyes were sharp, and calculating. "That eye isn’t something a body cultivator should have."That made both Kai and Abigail pause.Abigail blinked. “Wait, what?”Zora turned to her. "Yeah. That eye... it's not naturally meant for body cultivators. It’s more in the realm of extremely strong Qi cultivators. Those who gather and refine spiritual energy, those who channel their inner force through meridians, form a dantian, cultivate qi techniques. That type."Kai frowned. “So… I’m not supposed to have it?”Zora waved a hand. “Not exactly. It’s not that you can’t have it.

  • 240: The Aftermath of Boiling

Seconds turned into minutes.Minutes dragged into hours and somewhere between pain, sweat, and mild hallucinations, three full hours slipped by. Zora didn’t say a word the entire time, she just sat in a lotus position across from them, sipping tea like some immortal monk-turned-drill sergeant, watching the two of them boil like dumplings in spiritual soup. Kai had stopped screaming somewhere around the forty-minute mark. Not because the pain had dulled, hell no, it was because his body had entered this strange meditative state where pain became fuel. He’d followed Zora’s instructions to the letter, guiding the energy into his muscles, his skin, his veins, even his bones. It was brutal and insane, but somehow, he could feel something new being born deep inside. As for Abigail, she looked peaceful… on the outside. Inside her tub, however, the water had turned into something else entirely. Unlike Kai’s bath which was now crystal clear, save for the mushy leftovers of broken herbs

  • 239: The Boiling Begins

Kai froze like someone had just told him his system had been uninstalled. His eyes narrowed into slits as he stared at Zora, suspicion dripping off every inch of him but she was standing there casually, arms folded across her chest, with that ever-smug smirk that made his fists itch. Her voice was sharp and dry when she spoke again, like she was explaining something to a particularly dense rock. “Don’t flatter yourself, frog prince. I don’t want to see your body. The hell would I do with that? I need access to your skin...not your ego.”Kai blinked slowly, then raised a brow. “You want me to take off my clothes? In front of you? Just like that?”She shrugged, utterly unfazed. “It’s not that deep.”“Oh, it is,” Kai said, stepping back, one hand clutching his shirt like she’d just threatened to rob him of his last shred of dignity. “I'm not stripping in front of you like some underpaid stripper on a Friday night.”“Relax,” she snorted, crossing to a chair and dropping into it like a que

  • 238: “Welcome to Hell”

After nearly five hours in the air, their private jet finally began its descent into another state within Calonia. The land beneath them stretched wild and vast, with mountain ridges hugging the horizon and a dense mist swallowing the base of the hills like the place was hiding secrets too old to name. The moment they landed, everything moved like clockwork. Atlas, in his usual overprepared fashion, had already arranged for a house. Not a rental or a hotel but a whole damn house. So they moved in, ate in silence like soldiers prepping for war, and then Zora stood from her meal like she was about to declare martial law.“You both should go to sleep,” she said, licking her fingers like a savage. “Might be the last peaceful sleep you’ll ever get in your entire miserable lives.”Kai blinked, fork halfway to his mouth. “Wow. Thank you, Satan.”Zora raised a brow. “You’re welcome, Crippled Cockroach.”Abigail choked on her water and burst out laughing, nearly falling off the couch.Kai lea
