I Awakened the Apocalypse System

Ethan Cole was an ordinary young man until the night his world ended. On his way home, a strange blue screen appeared before his eyes and gave him an impossible mission. Survive. Protect his mother. Become stronger. When monsters begin appearing across Blackridge City, Ethan discovers that the world has entered the first stage of an apocalypse. People are dying, creatures are hunting humans, and a mysterious System is choosing ordinary people to become Players. But Ethan is not an ordinary Player. The System calls him Player Zero. As Ethan fights to survive, he begins gaining experience, growing stronger, and discovering abilities that could change his fate. However, the monsters are not his only enemies. A dangerous group known as the Hunters is searching for him, and they will do anything to capture him before he discovers the truth about his past. Then Ethan learns something even more frightening. Twenty years ago, he was taken to a secret facility and given a name he cannot remember. Subject Zero. His mother has spent years hiding the truth to protect him, while someone from his past has been waiting for him to remember. Now the apocalypse has begun, the Hunters are closing in, and a powerful enemy has entered the city. Ethan must become strong enough to protect the people he loves and uncover why the System chose him. Because if he fails, Blackridge City will fall. And Ethan may discover that the greatest danger in this new world is not the monsters. It is what he was created to become.

Chapter: My Father’s Voice
Ethan could not breathe. The voice beneath the Safe Zone had called him by his name. Not Player Zero. Not Subject Zero. Ethan. Then it had called him something even more impossible: my son.His eyes remained fixed on the cracked ground."Dad?" The word came out barely louder than a whisper.Mary stepped toward him. "Ethan," she began, but he turned to her before she could say more."You knew," he said. "You knew he was alive?"Mary's face tightened with pain. "I don't know if he is alive.""Then who is speaking?""I don't know."Ethan shook his head. "No more lies."The ground shook again, and several guards fell as cracks spread across the floor of the Safe Zone. People screamed and rushed away from the center. Victor grabbed Ethan's shoulder and told him they needed to move, but Ethan pushed his hand away."I need to know," he said."Knowing will not keep you alive," Victor warned."Neither will running forever."A deep vibration passed beneath them, and then the voice returned. "Et

Chapter: The Door Beneath Blackridge
Ethan stood frozen in the middle of the street. The System message remained in front of him: PLAYER ZERO REQUIRED TO OPEN THE SEALED STRUCTURE. The words made his stomach tighten. He looked toward the Safe Zone in the distance. The tall walls were visible through the smoke, surrounded by hundreds of fleeing survivors, while searchlights swept across the streets and armed guards stood along the gates. It should have looked like safety, but instead Ethan could not stop thinking about Mary's words. The door beneath Blackridge."What is underneath the Safe Zone?" Ethan asked.Mary did not answer immediately, and Ethan turned toward her. "Mom."Mary lowered her eyes. "I don't know everything.""You know enough.""I know that the facility was not the only place they built."Ethan's expression hardened. "What does that mean?"Mary looked toward the Safe Zone. "There was another structure beneath the city. Your father knew about it."Ethan went completely still. His father was a subject he ra

Chapter: The Race To The Safe Zone
Ethan ran through the burning street with Mary beside him as the timer continued counting down. 00:38:56. Three kilometers separated them from the Safe Zone, but the distance meant nothing compared to what stood behind them. The Seeker's avatar was following, and Ethan couldn't hear its footsteps, which frightened him more than anything else that night. A creature that powerful should have made the ground shake with every step, yet it moved through the city almost silently.Claire ran beside Ethan. "Do you still feel it?"He glanced behind him. "No."Victor looked at him. "That is worse."Ethan understood what he meant. If his Danger Sense couldn't detect the creature, then the Seeker was either moving beyond its range or deliberately hiding from it, and neither possibility offered any comfort. They reached an intersection where three roads stretched ahead of them. The main road was filled with Shadow Eaters, the road on the left was blocked by overturned buses, and the road on the ri

Chapter: The Seeker’s Mark
Ethan ran directly toward the creature, and everything around him seemed to slow. The Seeker's avatar stood behind Mary, its dark body almost blending into the smoke that covered the street, its long arm already reaching toward her. Ethan didn't think. He acted, pushing himself forward with everything he had and swinging the Beginner Blade. The blade struck the creature's arm, and a violent force exploded between them. Ethan was thrown backward, but the creature staggered as well, and for the first time he saw something unexpected. The blade had actually wounded it. A thin line of black liquid ran down its arm.Ethan stared at it as the System immediately appeared. ATTACK EFFECT CONFIRMED. BEGINNER BLADE CAN DAMAGE SEEKER AVATAR. His breathing grew heavier. So it could be hurt. That alone was enough."Ethan!" Mary rushed toward him."Stay back!" he shouted. The creature turned toward him, its eyes glowing brighter. "You should not have this weapon."Ethan's expression hardened. "You t

Chapter: One Hour
The ground split open beneath Ethan's feet. He jumped backward and pulled Mary with him as a deep crack tore across the street, sending pieces of broken concrete flying into the air. The survivors around them screamed and scattered in every direction.Ethan looked up. The massive shadow above the clouds was moving, and for several seconds nobody understood what they were seeing. Then something enormous pushed through the dark clouds, and Ethan's body went cold. This was not a monster like the Shadow Eaters. This thing was far larger. Only part of its body was visible, but Ethan could make out what looked like a huge black hand pressing against the clouds, a hand larger than several buildings put together.Victor slowly lowered his weapon. "We need to leave."Ethan looked at him. "What is that?"Victor didn't answer right away. His face had gone pale. "I don't know."Claire stepped closer to Ethan. "You said the System warned you about an unknown entity."Ethan nodded, and the blue scr

Chapter: The One They Left Behind
Ethan stood completely frozen as the young woman remained at the end of the corridor, watching him with an expression that suggested she had spent her entire life waiting for exactly this moment. Her clothes hung torn around her, and blood stained one sleeve, though she seemed entirely unconcerned with the wound, her eyes locked steadily on Ethan instead.“You know me?” he finally managed to ask.She offered a small, pained smile in response. “I knew you before you forgot me.”Mary quickly stepped between them. “No.” The woman turned her gaze toward her. “You remember now, don’t you?” All the color drained from Mary’s face, and Ethan turned toward his mother in confusion. “Mom, who is she?” She gave no answer as the woman continued walking closer.“My name is Claire,” she said.Ethan studied her features carefully, sensing something oddly familiar about her though he could not place why. “I don’t remember you.” “I know,” she replied softly, pressing a hand against her chest. “But I re
