Chapter 4

Planet Rombus

Lucian paused, completely taken aback by the simplicity of the space that had been revealed in the absence of the blue box that had been obstructing his vision. The sanitized white hospital room was vanihed, and in its place was something that looked like a dorm room...? It had a little hole in it. A little bed with a nightstand, a sparse desk, a small dresser, and two closed doors–one next the bed and one across the room–were all there was.

That was the end of it. There were no machinery keeping him alive, no pipes pumping anything into his arms or checking his pulse. Instead of disinfection, his nose was filled with a subtle sense of cedar and herbs.

He looked at the pale arms he was holding in front of him in awe. They were frail, yet they appeared to be in good health.

Is it true that these are my arms? He turned his hands over and over, watching the play of light pouring in through the window. He puhed the blanket off his legs and sought to stand with a thought. He was uncoordinated at first, swaying as he stood up and took a few exuberant steps forward.

Peering around again, he wandered over to a mirror he'd previously overlooked, transfixed by the visage staring back from him. His dark hair was delicately curled around his neck, and his green eyes shone brightly. His complexion was pale, and he seemed frail, but he was steady. In wonder, he examined his new body.

He may have been of normal height, but he was no longer skin and bones, nor did he have a sickening yellow tint to his skin. He didn't even have the usual red in his eyes that he'd become accustomed to seeing in the mirror.

Lucian wasn't very strong, but he was in good health! He lurched over to the window, laughing out loud, still struggling to get used to the sensation of walking totally on his own. He peered out at the new world with a huge grin on his face.

A sea of evergreen trees surrounded him, stretching to the sky and towering over them. Their lush leaves blocked the sun's beams, making his surroundings dark.

The breeze blew, gently swaying the green leaves, and chirping and roaring noises from unknown birds and creatures in the distance reached his ears.

He could also see what appeared to be a bizarre blend of the current world and an antique fantasy environment from his window. The structures and businesses seemed like they belonged in a little town on Earth, yet the people... They were clad in a variety of bright colors and armor, using weapons similar to those he'd seen in a typical fantasy scenario. he took a step back and tried to spin, but s

he tripped and fell flat on her face.

“Urgh…” he moaned and scratched his nose, but then he burst out laughing.

What did it matter that he wasn't very coordinated at the moment? he wasn't sick! he could learn to run, jump, and maybe even swing one of those swords they were carrying. It was a whole new world to explore, and for the first time, he could really go out and live.

he tried to remember what was written on the blue box he had seen when he first woke up.

There was something about a scan and being welcomed to Rombus. Did it go on? Probably. Did he keep in mind? In no way. "Ugh, this is when one of those things that keeps track of messages would be useful." he said something to himself , hoping that the right little blue box would show up again. Not at all.

"There has to be something..." System? Menu? What, blue box? Appear! Map? Information? Status? Help?” he sat there talking out loud and trying to make the blue box show up again. he heard the doorknob on the far door turn, but it stopped, showing that it was locked. he could just barely hear someone on the other side.

“Locked? Yesterday, it was empty... Did someone else check in?"

"I'm not sure, why don't you knock?" he heard three sharp knocks, and then someone said, "Is anyone in there?"

he stumbled to his feet and shouted, "I'm here, one second!" he looked down and saw for the first time what he was wearing. Bare feet, what looked like short and a t-shirt that fit his skinny body like a second skin... Oh well, he didn't have anything to hide, so it didn't matter.

He could hear whispers on the other side of the door, but they were too quiet for him to understand what they were saying. He got to the door, but it took him a while to figure out how to unlock it.

When he did, he smiled happily and said, "Hi!"

The two soldiers on the other side looked a little confused at his bright smile greeting, but they just gave him a small bow and said hello back. "Hello . Sorry to wake you up, but we didn't know anyone had already checked into this room. We had to get it ready for the new recruits ..."

he stopped talking because he thought he might have said too much, since Lucisn was just staring at him and thinking hard.

"Well crap. What do you want me to do? Does this room belong to someone else? But I need somewhere to sleep. Do I say I'm from another planet? Will they think I'm insane and throw me in jail? Transmigrators usually don't tell people they're from a different world, right? But they usually take over someone else's life, and I didn't, so I should be fine, right? What if they could help me, but they wouldn't if I didn't ask? he's looking at me like I'm crazy. Did he just ask me something?

"I'm Lucian. It's a pleasure to meet you." he stuck out his hand to break the awkward silence and hide the crazy things he was saying to himself.

But now the two soldiers were looking at him even stranger than before. They were looking at his hand like it was a snake in a very direct way.

"Do you... need anything?" The second soldier asked with a confused look on his face as he looked back up at Lucian.

He pulled his hand back like it was on fire and tried to touch his hair in a smooth way, but completely failed. he probably looked like an awkward baby giraffe as he jerked it around.

He laughed nervously and said, "Sorry, that's how we say hello where I come from..."

“Oh!” The first soldier looked like someone had just turned on a light above his head. He was now staring at Lucian in a very creepy way, and he took a step back when the first soldier whispered excitedly,

"Are you...a traveler?" Soldier 2 was looking at soldier 1 as if he had just asked an incredibly stupid question.

Lucian sighed. he knew he couldn't hide the fact that he was from a different world and didn't know anything about this one, so he just shrugged and muttered.

"If you mean that as of twenty minutes ago, as far as I know, I'm in a new world, then yeah?" Some of the thrill of being able to move on his own was starting to wear off. He was in a new place, and it was starting to hit him that he had no idea what he was going to do with his life or even what was going on in the world.

He had been left here, even though his body was healthy, and was on his own. Was this real, or was it just another dream?

“hae, you!!!” The compressed squeal of the soldier 1 brought him back to reality. Now they were both looking at him like he was from another planet... which, if this was real, he thought, technically, he probably was. he tried to pay attention, but the soldier kept going.

"I've never met a real traveler before! What's it like?" The first soldiers's eyes sparkled with excitement, and the second soldier's eyes were still filled with doubt, but curiosity was slowly taking over.

Soldier 1 was staring at her like he was the last cookie on the plate and he was going to grab her before anyone else could. Lucian ran his hand through his hair nervously and a little bit tiredly as he said, "Honestly, it's a bit confusing. I don't know where I am or what's happening."

When the two soldiers looked at each other, they seemed to notice for the first time how weak he looked. They looked down the hall, and when they didn't see anyone else, the second soldiers spoke quietly.

"Why don't we come in and take a seat for a while? Maybe we can help you understand some things." he also looked like he was interested in learning more, but he was also kind.

When Lucian saw the kind look on his face, he felt his guard go down. he smiled and nodded, then took a step back to let the two soldiers into the room. When he saw the small cart of cleaning supplies they had brought in with them, he finally paid attention to their matching uniforms: black trousers and light beige shirts with a large coat of arms above their hearts. They also carried weapon and Lucian could tell it was some kind of mysterious sword.

He shut the door after them and staggered over to sit down on the bed and try to fully take in their presence.

"Where to begin...?" Soldier 1 said something to himself as he looked around the room with interest. "Uh, could you tell me your names?" he thought it was a little strange to keep calling them "soldier one" and "soldier two." Her small comment seemed to throw the soldiers off, and they were both a little red.

"Right, that's too bad! This is Justin , and I'm Adam " soldier 1 spoke, and Lucian tried to put Justin in place of soldier 1 in his mind.

He was pale, tall, and thin like a willow. His face was angular, and his nose and lips were thin. But his blue eyes and black hair was plaited which reached his elbows and was tied back with a black ribbon, were his most attractive features.

He didn't have the curves Lucian wanted, so he could relate to him. Maybe he wouldn't stand out as much if he wasn't so thin.

On the other hand, Adam had a fuller body. he's not fat by any means, but he still had some baby fat on his round face, and Lucian was a little bit jealous of his chest. He had silky dark brown hair that was also pulled back in a low ponytail. His dark brown eyes were almond-shaped and matched his olive skin. Neither soldiers looked to be more than 20 years old.

"I'm glad to meet you both." Lucian gave them a tired smile. He thought it might be a while before they told him anything useful, but he couldn't say he blamed them. How could you explain your world to someone if you didn't know what their world was like? he couldn't help but try to get them to move on so he could get to the good stuff.

"Can you just... tell me what's going on here?" I literally know nothing about this world except that I saw a blue box that said "welcome" and that when I looked out the window, people were carrying weapons." They were probably still called weapons here... he thought it was strange that he didn't have any trouble with the language, even though he didn't feel like he was speaking English. Well,

whatever.

The important thing was that he could talk to people without any trouble.

he told himself that Justin and Adam looked at each other again. It seemed like they did that a lot.

Adam spoke up at last. "Well, have you already checked out your profile?"

“Profile?” And all of a sudden, he figured out the magic word, because he saw a small blue dot blinking in the corner of his eye. When he focused on it, the information screen finally came up!
