Adam just couldn’t sit straight. “I don’t want to disturb their date. It’s not right, but why do I feel the urge to spoil it?” He ended up looking at the manager and calling him. “Don’t blame me for what I’m about to do to Ron, Evelyn,” he muttered under his breath. “If only you had told me about this date beforehand, I probably wouldn’t be so agitated right now. Besides, you’re my assistant, and I take it upon myself to protect you from that monster of a man!”

Adam called the manager with a silent gesture. The manager came over at a quick pace. Adam explained what he wanted.

“Are you sure, sir?” the manager asked.

“As sure as you know your wife loves you.”

“Uh, okay.”

The manager went back to his desk and told a female waiter what she had to do. She shook her head, but he blackmailed her. If she didn’t do as he said, she would lose her job. This was the same female waiter that had come to Adam’s table a minute ago.

Cursing her bad luck, she took the items to Ron’s table. There was ho

As Adam walked away, Lucy was staring at him.“He’s at least thirty years younger, Lucy, and you’re old enough to be his mother, so stop looking at him,” Simon said in a low voice.Lucy spared her husband a cold glance. “Shut your mouth. Don’t tell me what I can and can’t do. I just felt that he looked familiar, that’s all.”“He may be wearing a suit, but he’s just a poor guy,” Simon said. “I can smell it from his body.” He then called a worker and secretly told him to kick Adam out.The worker followed Adam who went to the food counter.Adam was hungry, but he didn’t feel like eating food. Even though his aunt and uncle had taken his wealth, this wedding anniversary was still arranged by them.Adam didn’t want to share their happiness. As he was lost in thought, someone put a hand on his shoulder. He turned around and saw a worker.“You should quietly leave, or I will be forced to kick you out,” the worker warned. He was short but fat, and his eyes were somewhat red, either from the

“If you were really a beggar, then what happened? How did you change yourself?” the beggar curiously asked Adam. “Did you rob a bank or something?”“No, it was a stroke of luck,” Adam replied. “I’m still taking that test. If I don’t pass it, I might end up as a beggar one day again.”“I wish that luck visits me as well,” the beggar said.“Don’t worry, Brother,” Adam saw that this beggar had a bent leg, which didn’t allow him to walk properly. He took out his checkbook from his suit and signed it for 5000 dollars. “It’s not much, but this is all I can give you right now. You better not use it for drugs, or the next time I see you, I will beat your ass.”“I will spend this very carefully,” the beggar quickly said. “But I don’t think the bank guards will allow me to enter the bank if I go in these dirty clothes. I have to buy new clothes.”Adam then took his suit out and gave it to the beggar who felt more touched by this gesture. It brought tears to the beggar’s eyes.“Nobody has been t

Both Evelyn and Adam had gone to Sterling villa and talked with the producer, Jacob sterling. They were expecting him to look cool and grand. He was indeed a big, handsome fellow despite his age being in sixties, but he looked to be under great stress because of his movie being released incorrectly.“From behind the scenes, someone messed with me on purpose,” Jacob told them. “I know you’ve come here to get solid information from me, but I can’t guarantee you anything right now because all the people I took money from to produce the film are grabbing my throats right now. I have to pay them hundreds of millions in interest. So, until I clear all that, I won’t be able to release the film. Even if I do release it, will the people come to the theaters again?”“They will, sir,” Evelyn told him. “All your past movies were blockbusters. There was not an average film, so I think people will understand that some mistake happened this time and will definitely make many people come to the theate

Adam and Evelyn came to a restaurant. It was mid noon at the time. Both of them were sweaty and hungry. Evelyn first ordered some drinks to quench her thirst, and then she told the waiters to wait for fifteen minutes before prepping their meals because she just drank a lot of water. This gave both of them fifteen minutes of breathing space. Evelyn still couldn’t forget burying the beggar, and she also didn’t understand why Adam would go to such lengths. “If you don’t mind me asking, did you meet that beggar in the past? I mean, did he stop in front of your car at some traffic signal and then ask for some money?” “No, this is my first time seeing him,” Adam replied in a calm but slightly knowing, heavy voice. “But this isn’t the first time I have seen beggars die overnight. During winters, some of them freeze to death on the streets. Some have their toes and legs frozen overnight that they have to get amputated afterward.” “What?” Evelyn covered her mouth in shock. “You sound like

  • CHAPTER 93

As Adam approached the scene, the crows reluctantly flew away to the nearby posts and rooftops but still very much kept their eyes on him. There were at least twenty-odd of these black little things.Adam stopped and looked at the old man lying lifelessly on the sidewalk. There was no life in his eyes, which were half closed, and the black plastic bag beside him was open, with many items on the ground, suggesting that someone searched the bag for valuables.Evelyn joined Adam but was not able to see the old man’s corpse. She stood behind Adam. “Did he die? The beggar?”“He’s been dead for hours,” Adam said, his voice deep and concealing the pain and sadness swelling in him.“Let’s call the ambulance,” Evelyn said. “They are going to take care of him.”Adam, however, picked the old man up with both of his arms. He was not that heavy because he was very thin. His body had already hardened and was not bending at all. It looked like Adam was carrying a pole instead.“W-What are you doing,
