Chapter Five: Taking The Exams

Mr. Rodriguez shook his head in amusement after his daughter left the office, with her friend going after her.

He had expected that exact reaction from her. His daughter wasn’t someone that easily gave in to the desires of other people. She had always wanted things to be done her way.

He gave Richard a calm and embarrassed smile.

“Well, I need you to overlook that unnecessary outburst from my daughter, please.” He pointed a finger at the door absentmindedly.

She’ll come around somehow to the idea of having a personal security guard. She has no other choice than to succumb to the plan” Her father said with a grave voice.

Richard, on the other hand, was more intrigued by how she spoke to her father with as much disrespect as she could gather.

She told her father that she needed to have a normal life and that having personal security personnel would stand in the way of enjoying life as a normal person.

He pondered over her personality and told himself that he actually had loads of work to do in ensuring her safety. She seemed to be a difficult person..

“You know what? I’ll find a way to convince her, you can take a walk around the mansion and if you have any idea on how we can improve our security then you can let me know.” With a wave of his hands, he dismissed Richard.

Just like he had suggested, Richard went back to his borrowed room to get a change of outfit, there was no need to move around in something that formal if all he was going to be doing was strolling around.

Even if James hadn’t said anything, he had every intention to check the security here, after all, if he was going to be staying here for the next one year, he had to make sure the overall security had no loopholes.

As he walked through the front door to the side of the house, he heard sounds of crying coming from one side of the house, curious and worried, Richard went in that direction and was surprised see Elise, bent over while she sobbed like a little child.

Upon hearing footsteps, Elise raised her head up and anger flashed in her eyes the moment she saw him again.

“What do you think you are doing here?” She questioned sharply and then looked around. Unlike when he had seen her just now, most of the piercings were off her face already making the original exquisite and soft features more defined.

“Your father asked me to walk around and get used to the environment. Do you want to give me a tour?”

Even though she was throwing tantrums at the moment, he knew that they were going to have to work together eventually.

Elise shot him a look filled with disgust.

“Don’t think that because you have a good appearance and somehow my father isn’t listening to me at the moment means you have the right to talk to me.” She scolded angrily and then walked off while Richard chuckled as he watched her storm off angrily.

As if it wasn’t him she had just talked to, Richard walked the estate with his mouth pursed into a thin line the whole time. After a while, he brought out his phone from his pocket.

“Niko, check which company is handling the security of the Rodriguez family.”

“The security has many loopholes in it.” He added so that the person could understand that he was dissatisfied.

“On it boss.” The voice on the other end said just as Richard ended the call.

After a complete trip round the estate, Richard went back to the room assigned him.

On the other hand, James Rodriguez had finally found a way to get his daughter to accept having a bodyguard but as it was a tricky matter, he had the servants send for Richard first.

As long as he agreed the matter was settled.

Richard had just gotten up from a short nap when he was informed that James wanted to meet him again.

Unlike earlier in the day, he just rinsed up slightly but maintained his home clothing that he had already.

“Did you go for that tour?” James asked making small talk as soon as Richard entered.

“Yes I did.” After this, Richard proceeded to tell him some basic blind spots in the security and left the bigger ones for later.

After all, he didn’t want to let on too much without knowing what was happening first.

“Like I mentioned earlier, Elise is going to college. She wants to fit in and live a normal life where she doesn’t feel like she’s showing off some wealth. To achieve this….” James paused and looked at Richard before continuing.

“I want you to enroll as a student in my daughter’s school. I mean, her university. I want you to be close to her or should I say, to be in the same vicinity where she would be at all times and to make this conspicuous enough for her to agree to that, this would need you to get enrolled in her faculty as a student. You’ll get to keep an eye on her while blending in as a student. What do you think?”

“That is a great idea,” Richard said.

He rolled over the idea in his mind and was pleased that, at least, he would be utilizing this opportunity to do two things at the same time.

The first would be his primary duty of looking after Elise while the second would be the chance to get a college education.

He readily agreed to the plan.

I’ll call one of my friends who is a Dean at the college and ask him to arrange for you to get registered for the forthcoming Entry examinations into the school.”

“That’s very achievable, Sir. Please, what’s the name of her department?”

“Building and design technology. All you need to do is to sit through the classes and keep an eye on my daughter. Understand?”.

“Of course, Sir!”

Since he already agreed and James felt like he only had to make a call to make Richard a faux student, he decided that they should go and get the contract signed immediately.

The rest of the day was filled with basically the contract signing as Mr. Rodriguez took Richard to one of his attorneys and they had to sign the contract agreement together.

The contract had so many ridiculous rules that amused Richard but he readily agreed to them because he wanted to fulfill his greatest desire to make Mr. Rodriguez happy.

“Now that we have this signed, I’ll make a call to a friend in the college so that they can have your name included in the admission batch for this year.” James said happily as he entered the car.

“I think that won’t be necessary, Sir.” Richard refused, making his savior stop to look at him.

“Are you changing your mind? Let me tell you, after signing a contract…`` Before he could say more, Richard interrupted.

“I’ll take the exams like the normal students and get in.” He said resolutely.
