Chapter 6

The rowdy place was becoming quiet as guests began to depart bit by bit. It was really late now and those who couldn't wait for the man who would grace the occasion left.

They said their farewells to the celebrant and gave their reasons why they could no longer stay and he understood.

Soon, the place was becoming empty and only the family of three were left behind. It was as though the caller was aware that the household had no guest before calling Mr Dave.

For Mrs Anna, she had her eyes on Damian and in turn, Damian had his eyes on his mother. These two were trying to read each other's thought while waiting for what the father of the house was going to proclaim to their hearing.

He was glued to where he stood shivering, and suddenly feeling his heartache. The phone in his hand glide off. Unable to speak or move, he slumbered before their eyes.

Both mother and son widened their eyes at each other and hurried to aid this unconscious man. They both had fears in their eyes hoping he doesn't die before signing the paper that had the transfer of property.

Rather than worrying over his condition, they were troubled over the declaration of who the heir might because from the looks of it, he had just received a tragedic and it might be to their favor.

Luckily for them, they were able to get the hospital and revive him before his health becomes critical!

However, treating him was not just the problem but he became dumb and not responding to treatment.

It got his family perplexed, they were yet to receive the news that he got but from the way they behave, one could tell that they were aware of the cause why the old man fainted.

Damian dragged his mother gently outside to confirm if she was the one who triggered the killing of Louis.

"Weren't you the one Damian?" She whispered shocked at why he was asking her that question.

"No, all my plans was for him to arrive home get blackmailed" he confessed puzzled over what was going on.

"Neither way, it's to our favor" his mother muttered and Damian eyed her while bemused by her favor.

"I didn't want him dead!" He scrowled and his mother beckoned on him to lower his tone because where they were standing wasn't safe.

"Do you think I wanted him dead? In the end, someone helped us erase our greatest challenge" she reasoned attempting not to raise her voice.

Her son was too soft and that's why he was always taken advantage of. If he could have been tough just like Louis, perhaps his father could have recognize him.

Damian tried not to freak out because fear had grip him. If neither he or his mother were involved in Louis death, then who could have killed him?

"Let's get in just not raise suspicions"

His mother voice intervene in his thoughts and he shuddered as his hairs were rising out of fright. He was becoming hypersensitive that he flinches at anything.

"Damian! You might be a suspect with the way you're acting, stay calm, you didn't kill him, it was just luck that ran on him" Mrs Anna consoled as she could sense her son trembling like though he was the culprit in Louis sudden death.

"Mother, do you think it was..."

"Mrs Anna?" A voice interrupted their conversation. It was the doctor who had beckoned on them that Mr Dave demands to see her.

Damian swallowed hard as his mother left his sight. He inhaled and exhaled attempting to stay relaxed just not to attract any form of suspicion by his father who often acts like a detective and could fish out the culprit by just staring.

If Damian wasn't involved in the death of his stepbrother, why was he afraid?

He barged into his father's ward with tears in his eyes. His mother had started her pretentious cry as she had the hands of her husband in hers.

"He can't be dead" the president muttered as he was gurgling. The thought of Louis made his health status critical that he began to jerk on the bed.

The doctor was right there to administer medications to the president so that he wouldn't lose his life because of the agony of losing his son.

Days passed and investigations were carried out if perhaps there was a trace of survival. Everyone who encountered Louis in the foreign country was were questioned including the chauffeur who drove him over to the airport before the car accident.

According to the reports, the car had exploded and whosoever was in it was burnt beyond recognition.

All they could find was Louis identity card which he always carried with him and a briefcase which had Louis logo on it. That alone could prove that the victim of this car explosion was Louis and no one else.

There was no specific suspect but Mr Dave wasn't going let his son's death passby. He didn't want to believe that Louis's death was just an accident as he viewed it as a hatched plan by someone.

This man was dying slowly with his beloved son and Mrs Anna and her son were affected in someways because they had no rest catering for the old man.

For Mrs Anna, if he needs to die, he could, that's if he signs the property papers. Now that the biggest obstacle was out of the way, her son was certainly going to be the heir.

For Damian, he mourned for his stepbrother, even though they weren't on good terms with each other, the soft hearted man had to still recognize that their father's blood flows in them.

The president had sleepless nights sorting out a way to get whosoever had laid his son to rest at an early age.

He began his suspect from his home and had the cops to investigate his wife and son. His actions baffled them but they had no choice than to accept fate.

It was just going to be for a while and he would regret humiliating them. Both mother and son tried not to screw up. Especially Damian who attempted not to stutter when being interrogated.

They were found not guilty of the charges and that gave them a relief that the assumption of the president on them was false.

In the end, he had to accept fate that his beloved son was dead and would never return to him. Damian ceased this opportunity to be closer to his father, however, the real enemy was lurking in from close by.
