Chapter 6

In the police station, Richardson couldn’t believe what was playing out before him.

His best friend of over five years completely twisted the actual story around before the police men, and Richardson could do nothing but watch as it all played out.

His best friend claimed that he had coincidentally been at Alice’s house when something bad had been about to befall her.

He claimed to be a workmate of Alice and had gone to Alice’s house to give her some files which they were both supposed to work together on, and that was when he had caught Richardson in the act of attempting to forcefully rape Alice.

He claimed to have helped Alice escape from Richardson’s hold, which made Richardson angry that he decided to beat him up.

Richardson’s mouth could only part in shock as he watched his Bestfriend speak so animatedly, like all what he was saying was actually real.

Richardson attempt to say his side of the story countless times, but was shunned. He accused Michael of telling lies but was disregarded instantly.

“You were really about to rape her, thank heavens for my intervention,” Michael spoke as he dabbed an icepack to his busted lips. His broken nose was currently bandaged up.

“That’s not true, Michael. Stop telling lies. You and Alice are not workmates, you’re telling lies.” Richardson attempted saying for the hundredth time but the policemen only scoffed at his words.

“We both know I’m telling the truth, who knows if you’ve been raping Alice constantly, huh?” Michael snapped out and Richardson flinched. The policemen appalued Michael for saving Alice from Richardson.

“Well, what did anyone even expect from a male stripper?” Michael mocked with an eyeroll.

“Oh, he’s a stripper?” One of the policemen asked and Richardson denied it just as Michael drawled out.

“He is.”

“That explains it then.” Another policemen scoffed and they all laughed along with Michael for a few seconds. Never had Richardson felt this helpless in his entire life.

“Mr. Wilson, If all what Mr. Michael has said is true, then you’d be charged for two crimes. One for rape and one for assault.”

Richardson shook his head vigorously. “Those claims are not true, I swear to you.”

“Time would tell, Mr. Wilson. If you’re unable to prove yourself innocent, you’d be in jail for the rest of your life.”

Richardson felt began to spin even more and his heart felt like it was going to tear out of his chest from how hard it was thumping.

Richardson feels like his girlfriend would be able to prove to the public that he didn’t do a thing to her. He believes in her.

A few minutes later, the policeman returned back to the questioning room and informed Richardson that since he was currently guilty of two offenses, he was going to be thrown into jail for now.

“What?” Richardson thundered in shock but was informed that it was the normal protocol of the police.

“No, please. I can’t get thrown in jail.” He tried pleading but as expected, his pleas fell on deaf ears.

“Can I please see my girlfriend at least? I promise you that she’d tell you all the truth, I swear I didn’t do a thing to her.” Richardson cried out desperately just as he was dragged out of the chair and shoved forward.

“You can’t see anyone right now.” He was informed as he got led towards where he assumed was the cells.

“Please, I really need to see her.” He tried again.

“You can’t see anyone, Mr. Wilson. Although, you have a right to get yourself a lawyer.” He got informed as he was roughly shoved into an empty cell.

Richardson watched as the policeman left him in the call as his shoulders sagged. Contacting a lawyer was out of the question for him, seeing as he didn’t have a dime in his bank account.

He attempted to call the policemen back and even rattle the cell, but that didn’t help his situation in any way. He gave up calling the policemen back when some people in other cells started mocking him for being pathetic and desperate, while some complained about him making unnecessary noise.

Richardson slowly slumped down against the dirty cell wall and let his head drop dejectedly. A single tear slide down his cheeks which he was quick to wipe off.

Richardson silently began to ask himself just why he was so unfortunate in every situations. He couldn’t believe all what had unfolded today had happened in a single day– in a day which he had hoped his life was going to completely turn around in.

Richardson couldn’t sleep that night, nor could he bring himself to eat the food that was served to everyone.

The next morning, when one of the policemen who had arrested him showed up, he jumped to his feet hastily. He wondered if the policemen was here to inform him that he was going to be spending the rest of his life in prison.

The policemen unlocked the call and said. “You’re free to go.”

Richardson was confused, but he didn’t dare question the policeman and instantly made his way out of the cell. He collected his phone and a few more things of him that got confined by the policemen, and finally stepped out of the prison.

He sucked in a deep breath, finally feeling like he could breathe well again. It was like the prison walls had prevented him from breathing well since yesterday.

He was about to head home when he noticed a car parked a few feet away from where he was standing at. The car was a Rolls Royce, and telling from how gleaming it was right now, Richardson was sure it cost no less than thireeen million dollars.

A men dressed in a suit stepped out of the car in that moment and Richardson instantly averted his gaze, not wanting his admiration for the car to be blatantly obvious.

However, he was confused and instantly began to feel self conscious when the man approached him, and the words that escaped the man’s mouth when he finally stood before Richardson, completely took his aback.

“Sir, I’m here to pick you up.”
