Aiden growled and threw himself forward at the same time as letting his elbow meet the Alpha's ribs. Lifting the Alpha off the floor, Aiden ducked his chin to the left and dropped onto his back. The Alpha grunted under the force of the tarmac and Aiden's weight. Suddenly Aiden was thrown into the air, landing with a thud as the Alpha began to shift. Welcoming his own beast, Aiden gritted his teeth against the pain of his shifting bones and pounced at the grey Alpha. Charlie's scream caught in her throat as the door to the cabin opened and a tall, blonde-haired man walked in, followed by a grey-haired, well-dressed gentleman in a dark suit. As she looked at his chiselled jawline and caramel eyes that matched her own, her heart fell to her butt. "Hey, Maria, finally. Has anyone ever told you that you look like your whore of a mother? An unearthly scream woke Aiden from his nightmarish sleep, causing his eyes to shoot open as he tried to bolt upright. A barely audible groan emanated from Aiden's throat as he dug his nails into the wooden floor of the cabin, trying to adjust his position. His wolf was weak but Aiden had always been stronger than should have been possible, especially during a shift and there was no reason, even in his weakened state, that he couldn't use that strength now. Ben raced towards the village, his beta by his side and his pack at his heels. The count had been close, closer than he had expected but as always, they had pulled through. Most of the pack were tired of the shit that they had to deal with because of Dawns and he knew the police wouldn't get involved. They had tried but after a few of the officers family members disappeared, they gave up. The scent of Aiden filled his nose as he padded through the trees. Aiden sat in the clearing thinking about the words he had said. He had never admitted it before, not even to himself but hearing it out loud had opened up a wound that he hadn’t realised he had. He thought about Charlie and how alive she made him feel. He thought about the static electricity that hummed around them, pulling them together whenever they were near each other. He thought about the time he had spent with Sarah, getting to know her, relying on her and even turning to her for support and he thought of the worry he had felt when he smelled her at Ben’s.
