The Valley of the Shadow of Death
Chapter 10- The Valley of the Shadow of Death...For the first time in my life, I truly feel powerless. It had been many hours since the start of the battle between Will and the horde of guardians. This horde was much smaller in number than the previous one. There were only ten thousand at most in this one, were as the previous horde had hundreds of thousands, if not more.Unfortunately, it seems the difficulty was inversely proportional to the size. This small horde was far more difficult than the previous one. Not just because these wolves were stronger, but more importantly, because they were far more intelligent. When they attacked, they did so with order and near perfect teamwork. Unlike their predecessors, these enemies knew how to use their numbers, and their abilities well. They always attacked in groups of threes. One would attack with a barrage of wind blades; each one compact, powerful and well placed, then another guardian would attack from the opposite side with its claw

Wrath of the Watergod
Chapter 11- Wrath of the Water God...A few moments before...Will was gripping his sword with all his might. He was tense. He was resolved, but most important, he was focused. Will imagined the cocoon to be like a grenade; inside the grenade was shrapnel, ready to devastate the environment. Then, Will holding the sword with his both his hands at this point, got ready for a horizontal sweep in the anticlockwise direction. The cocoon had already reached terminal velocity. It was as compressed as could be. Will knew this so he made his choice. Then, he moved! Like lightning! The moment his movement begun, his sword swept across. The moment the sword moved, the cocoon disappeared, or rather if one was observing, that's what it would looked like. Sounds that were similar to scratching a chalk board with your nails were all around. Will's sweep continued on for an entire three hundred and sixty degree motion. He had to rotate his body to accommodate this. The guardians, who were attacking

The Nail That Sticks Out, Gets Hammered
Chapter 12- The Nail That Sticks Out, Gets Hammered...The system had four ways of categorizing skills. The first method was through skill books, which are dropped by demonic beasts once you kill them. This is purely a random process that depends on chance, because monsters can drop many things besides skill books, such as items, scrolls, ores etc.Modus had ordered Adelda to remove this aspect from every kill that Will made. Apparently Modus said that this difficulty will 'temper' the boy and make him stronger. He also ordered her to make the boy's map and information options inaccessible. He made her modify the system around Will quite a bit, and often to make his battles more realistic and bloody. One can try and emulate a skill from a skill book, if you do it successfully, you gain the skill permanently and the system will reward you, depending on the difficulty of the skill, for example, Will's water blade. It is a very common skill, one that the system has, thus it does not cou

Blood Calamity Part 1
Chapter 13- Blood Calamity Part 1...At a slightly distant location, six giant wolves were flying in the sky. These wolves were slightly bigger than the guardians, but the aura they radiated far surpassed the latter. 5 of them were silver, and one was white. The white one was flying at the head of the pack. Its presence and its grandeur far surpassed the other five.Once they reached their target location, the wolves halted in midair, what met them was what could only be described as a mass graveyard. Thousands of corpses littered the ground, going as far as the eye could see.The ground had been stained red by the blood of the victims, limbs were scattered everywhere like they were grains of sand. This was not the scene of a battle, but of one sided massacre. Yet the most disturbing fact was, of all the thousands of dead bodies, almost none were intact. The white wolf and its companions howled in rage. Their howls echoed out for many miles, showing their anguish at the sight. This w

Blood Calamity Part 2
...In true battles, momentum was a key aspect of the battle, especially in battles involving more than two opponents. In Will's case, it was not just a matter of morale, the large wolf he had massacred had given him, for lack of a better word, a sh!tload of experience. This was without a doubt the greatest amount of yuan Will had ever received. As yuan madly gushed into Will's body, the headless corpse collapsed into the ground, the shockwave caused by this immediately cleared up the mist in the surrounding area. It was so much yuan, that Will immediately reached level 25. He could feel that his mind now had doubled in terms of parts. His mind had once more been powered up. Since part of the mist had cleared up, Will could now see the head of his victim [Storm Wolf General: An extremely powerful variant of storm wolves. It has the intelligence of a human child and has the ability to use it. It is not only intelligent but is also powerful; almost no creature at its level can de

Blood Calamity Part 3
...Fear of the unknown was something all sentient creatures had; it was the driving force for many fears, including fear of death. We fear death because we have never experienced it, one could even go as far as to say that no logic can get this fear out of you. We want to survive because we don't know what happens if we die. Do we disappear into nothingness? Or is there life after death? No matter what you believe, the driving force behind the fear of death is the fear of the unknown. It's not necessarily a bad thing either, this fear also drives curiosity, it drives us to understand, and it drives us to learn; which in turn drives us to become smarter. The wolves had the intelligence of a human, thus they should have the emotions of one too. Emotional intelligence is also part of human nature. Will was counting on the emotional intelligence these creatures had. They had just seen three of their comrades die, in a matter of seconds, and they had no idea how. They could clearly se

Ten Seconds
What the heck?? This is actually an earth-shattering battle! Will was baffled by what was happening. The ground near him and everywhere around him had been completely upheaved, the reason? The wolves were raining down a storm of what Will called wind bombs. These were sphere like objects, made up of wind that detonated on impact. The two remaining generals were the attackers. The king did nothing. He just remained still, observing Will the entire time. This made Will very uncomfortable like he was under the scrutiny of a microscope. This long distance attack was quite effective. At least it allowed the wolves to see what Will could do. The bombs had a large concussive blast radius of about five meters, and they moved quickly as well. Although their trajectories were much easier to predict than the wind blades, they did far more damage. Due to the massive blast radius, Will had to change the direction the moment a wind bomb was released because h

The Power of 4 Degrees
A grain of rice can tip the scales...Such was the perfect way to describe how delicate the struggle between Will and the king was.The king was all-powerful and dominant, baptized by constant battle and even Mother Nature herself. Will was a human who had a sharp mind and a plethora of skills that were extremely dangerous given that they were used in the right situation. The question in this situation was who would win? On which scale would the grain fall? Will did not want the answer to be within doubt. After gritting his teeth, he hurriedly mobilized all available parts in his brain in an attempt to come up with a solution. He was literally inside the jaws of death, and only a little bit of water was keeping him alive. What can I do? How do I get out of this? Will spread his awareness outside, in an attempt to understand his surroundings. The king had bitten onto the ball of water surrounding Will, and he was so desperate that

Swoosh!Breathe Will, breathe.Swoosh!Damn it! Wrong again! Breathe Will, breath.Swoosh!Sigh... Wrong again. That wasn't even close!White was all Will could see, white was what was affecting Will, and white was all Will could think of. The snow falling around him made all of the vegetation fade away into whiteness, blanketed by a myriad of unending snowflakes. Will was used to seeing snow; it should not have been much of a bother to him under normal conditions. But, unfortunately, he was not under normal conditions. All he had were his thin robes. He didn't even have shoes to cover his feet.Comfort makes one lose focus, besides, I need to connect with my surroundings. Okay Will, again, breathe. After breathing in slowly, Will grasped the rusty katana in his hands and swung forward.Swoosh! The sheer speed of the strike caused the very air around the young man to tremble. Any normal master of swordsmans

The Soul
GulpWill couldn't help but swallow some saliva when he saw what the quest was. He had long been aware that the system would give out 'Quests' on special occasions from time to time, but he would never have thought that the first quest he got would be so difficult.True Strike! Boom! That phrase was deeply embedded in Will's mind, for it was a technique from the Solitary Sword Sovereign cultivation manual. However, it was at a stage that was so profound Will could only understand the technique's name. He barely understood anything else. The manual had given Will a plethora of information, and Will could barely make sense of it. It wasn't just difficult to understand, it also felt as if it wasn't in order. Techniques that were more powerful than the true strike itself were much easier to understand, yet simpler techniques like the true strike were sometimes more difficult to understand. This information was given to Will in the form of
