The darkness rippled, and Cale stepped out of the portal into the corridor of the laboratory. Behind him, Selene and the eight guards followed along and stood behind Cale after they were all out. Then, with a single gesture, Cale closed the portal leading to the other world.With a somber effect like that of a receding tide, the darkness slowly vanished from view until it was completely gone, following the rift’s closing. In its place, an empty chasm leading deep into the ground appeared before the group. The bottom of the chasm could not be seen, showing just how deep it was.Everywhere was still suffused with darkness, but unlike before, the light of the corridor was finally able to illuminate it.Everything appeared to be back to normal—or as normal as it could be, considering—but after sensing, Cale knew that things weren’t exactly as they seemed.
