Focus Perspective
Cale and Selene really didn’t have a lot of time. There were a lot of things that needed to be said which they couldn’t get into so after addressing a few issues, the two of them left the rest for later and Selene quickly notified the rest about Cale regaining consciousness after disabling the means she had used to affect surveillance. A few minutes later, a crowd of researchers led by Krasin arrived at Cale’s ward and began examining him. Cale simply watched everything unfold passively, his eyes watching the busyness while refraining from making any unnecessary moves like trying to use his powers to control them. Cale didn’t bother pretending like he was just waking up, not caring if it would raise any suspicions. For him now the priority was going over what he had just learned. Having not learned much, Cale was still certain about one thing and that was who his captors were. They were the Coccyx—the very government that was meant to protect and serve people like him—they we
Control
Hahaha! Cale continued laughing, seemingly unaffected by Krasin’s powers. Focus perspective being a spiritual/psychic level ability was affected by one’s will. Meaning that the stronger the will of a person being affected by focus perspective, the easier it was to resist. This phenomenon is actually quite scientific. Focus perspective worked by basically hijacking the senses of another person, just like stealing the parts of a machine for your own use. But people weren’t machines that would become dysfunctional once one of their parts are missing. When people lose one sense usually another strengthens to replace it but it was mostly dependent on the strength of the person’s will this naturally with a stronger will it becomes easier to ignore the effects of focus perspective. And that is why Cale could still laugh despite Krasin using his powers against him… his will was strong but it wasn’t naturally so. Cale’s second power—which he hadn’t gotten around to naming yet—had sev
Reasons
“Why am I laughing? Hehe, I’m not sure, maybe I’ve gone mad from all the torture you put me through.” Despite Cale’s words, there was no sign of madness in his demeanor at all. His speech was steady and his eyes piercing as he stared at Krasin. Seeing that his power was not affecting Cale, Krasin hesitated a little before he begrudgingly stopped using his power under Cale’s piercing gaze. While Krasin’s power could indeed affect others and was useful for combat, Krasin u fortunately wasn’t a fighter so his use of the power on others was very limited, serving mainly as a means of intimidation more than anything else. Huff! After stopping his power, Krasin took several deep breaths to calm himself down before looking at Cale, his eyes level and calm. It was all feigned but Krasin refused to show weakness in front of so many people. “What do you mean by that?” Krasin asked Cale. “I don’t know why you would feel like you are being tortured by must believe me that isn’t wha
Reasons 1
The researchers exchanged glances with each other, the suspicion evident in their eyes about Krasin’s sudden request. Not only that but his conversation with Cale was also unexpected for it wasn't part of any plans they had made, sparking some curiosity about what Krasin wanted to achieve. But nobody said anything as they all filed out of the room, leaving only Krasin and Cale together alone. Finally, when it was only the two of them, Krasin locked the room from inside to ensure nobody would interrupt them. After that, Krasin activated his personal terminal and accessed the security feed of the room before disabling that too, leaving just the two of them in complete isolation. During all this, Cale watched Krasin with an increasingly amused expression on his face. He watched as the old man after finishing his preparations walked up to him to sit by his bedside just within arm's reach of Cale making Cale’s expression become even more peculiar. Krasin was so close… as long as Cale s
Mana Sickness
“Now that we’re alone we can now talk?” Krasin began speaking by saying that. Amused, Cale asked, “Is there a reason why we have to be alone to discuss this?” Krasin replied, “Actually, there's no reason at all. I just felt it would do you some good if you heard this from me with no one else around. I wouldn’t want to overwhelm you.” Hearing this, Cale remained silent, waiting for Krasin to speak. No longer keeping Cale in suspense, Krasin said, “The about your capture… You are very sick, that is why you are being held here against your will.” Cale frowned when he heard this, not expecting Krasin to say something like this at all. “Sick… what do you mean?” “Yes, sick. You are heavily ill but not just that you are actually the source of a new unknown mana sickness.” The more Krasin spoke the more Cale frowned, wanting to say something. But Krasin stopped him from speaking. “Hold on and be patient let me explain,” Krasin said and continued when Cale calmed down. “It a

“What do you mean by a beast tide? What are you talking about?” This time Cale was genuinely surprised to hear about a beast tide all of a sudden. Any matter concerning a beast tide was nothing to joke about so Cale didn’t believe that Krasin would make something like this up just to deceive him. But if Krasin was being serious about the beast tide, then what does any of that have to do with himself? “Have you forgotten? A few days ago before you fell into a coma you were told that an exotic beast tide had attacked the fortress.” Cale tried to recall is this was true. His memory from before his coma was a bit fuzzy probably due to the coma he was in or perhaps it was a side effect of the mind reading conducted on him. But Cale could faintly remember hearing something like that. Yet the memory wasn’t all that clear since it seemed to have only been said in passing. Seeing as Cale could faintly recall , Krasin said, “About a week ago, around the time you had your last accident, t
Night Terrors
“When you say we, who are you referring to?” While Krasin considered how to continue hoodwinking Cale, the young man suddenly shifted the conversation toward another direction. Cale’s thought process remained the same, for things that couldn’t be verified now, wait until he was alone with Selene then verify them with her later. For now, instead of focusing on something that was most likely false for which he had no information on, Cale was more interested in the identities of his captors. With Selene having briefly explained this, Cale was more confident that he wouldn’t be deceived. Krasin squinted, secretly displeased with Cale’s question but he managed to not let it show on his face. He was never a patient man and seeing the young man not reacting the way he wanted almost made Krasin give up and drop all pretenses with Cale. But he managed to rein in his displeasure. Still, instead of continuing to entertain Cale, Krasin decided to end things here for now and try again late
Fruitless Search
The next day… Karla and Bolin were walking down the street with dejection from the unfruitful day they just had searching for Cale. It has been a week now yet there was not a single clue had been discovered pertaining to Cale’s whereabouts. Finding him was beginning to look hopeless. Karla and Bolin had just returned from the local security bureau department where they were told the same thing they been told during previous visits. Now they were heading back to Bolin’s home to discuss their next course of action. Along the way, Karla walked with an ugly frown on her face which nowadays, with the repeated failure in her search for Cale that filled her with worry and trepidation, meant she was unable to smile at all. Seeing her like this, Bolin tried to encourage Karla. “Come on Karla, cheer up. It’s only been a week so I’m sure something will turn up soon. We’ll definitely find him, I promise.” Yet no amount of words that Bolin said could reassure Karla that Cale would be f
The Security Bureau
Karla and Bolin pushed through the crowd to get to the front where they saw an electronic cordon set up outside the entrance to an alleyway blocking entry into the alley. Outside the cordoned off area, a group of people wearing bright crimson short blazers with hot black pants stood guard with stern expressions on their faces, their eyes blazing as they stared down at the crowd with fierce intensity. Their presence was intimidating not just because of their unfriendly demeanor or the uniforms they wore but more so because of the burning crossed fists badge that was pasted quite glaringly on their bodies. A pair of burning fists crossed together as if locked in combat… that was the symbol of the security bureau. Seeing the security bureau people handling some business here meant that something serious must have happened. There were about five security officers alone helping to maintain order around the area, a considerable number when you thought about how capable each security off
The Security Bureau 1
The security bureau operated a kind of internal caste system where the roles of each caste member are clearly defined and their status is nigh unchallengeable. Think strict military hierarchy but for prison inmates. At the very top was the head honcho—the chief of security who ran everything in the bureau and answered only to the warden, i.e, the fortress administrator. Below the chief of security were his various deputies scattered across every district bureau stationed all over the fortress. These were the ones that relayed the chief’s orders, ensuring every task is handled promptly and order is maintained within their jurisdiction. Below the deputies were the long-coat cavaliers. Wielding significant power and autonomy within the security bureau, they only answered to the chief of security with the deputies only serving as mediums to relay the chief’s orders down to them. The deputies themselves had little control over the long coats as the latter had enough autonomy to choose
