Investigation Protocol 1
In the security bureau, cases were classified based on a five-point system. It was the job of the first responder to roughly evaluate a case based on the details they observe before reporting as there was an initial a short window to register the details of the case during which all available short jacket officers in the area would be notified and depending on the severity of the case a long coat officer could also be notified. For context, a level 1 case generally fell into crimes like petty theft, public dispute, larceny and other such small crimes. Usually these crimes affected unawakened individuals the most and were mostly handled by red badge officers of the security bureau. Level 2 cases is when things began to escalate a little, necessitating the presence of a short jacket officer to handle without the need for a long coat officer to intervene. These cases included grand theft, arson, homicide and other such cases. The people involved in this case can include awakened indi
Fight Club
“I figured out who the other party in the deal was supposed to be. It was the Denzhen fight club.” As soon as Conrad revealed the name of the second party, short jacket officer Woniel immediately widened his eyes in realization. “Of course,” he exclaimed as clarity entered his mind. “It has to be them. With everything that has happened over the past few days, they are the most likely people in need of a supply of Volt. Why didn’t we think of this earlier?” The enlightenment that came from figuring out who their target was drove Officer Woniel’s mind into a frenzy as he started recalling details about them that he knew about. What was the Denzhen fight club? Like all underground organizations, the Denzhen fight club is a group that operated an illegal fighting arena on the outskirts of the fortress, specializing in matches between awakened individuals. But it wasn’t limited to this because apart from awakened individuals, the fight club also hosted matches that featured battles
Taking Action
The silence only lasted for a few moments before officer Woniel finally said, “Since we now have a clear lead we should investigate the fight club to see if we can get any clues.” “Indeed,” Conrad agreed. “See if we can find out the identities of the ones that appeared in that alley last night and find out if they saw anything that can help us locate the culprit. I’ll let you handle this on your own. Just notify me if something crops up.” “Alright. And what will you be doing in the meantime?” Woniel asked. Conrad answered, “I’m going back to the crime scene. I want to get a closer look just in case we missed anything.” Hearing this, Officer Woniel appeared contemplative as he remembered their conversation earlier in the day. “Is this about the speculation you made this morning?” Woniel asked, referring to the hunch Conrad had about the case involving something else. “Do you still think an exotic beast could be behind this?” Conrad replied, “I’m not sure and in any case, I won’
New Hope
Prya came back shortly after, hot beverage in hand that she served to Bolin and Karla. “Thank you,” Bolin smiled receiving his portion from his wife while Karla only nodded in acknowledgement before immediately setting the hot cup aside without drinking it. Prya didn’t say anything to this and simply turned to her own cup before sitting beside Bolin and finally asked, “So I take it there was no progress from the security bureau once again.” Seeing Bolin nod confirmed Prya’s words to which she wasn’t surprised about. If there had been a positive development on Cale’s case then neither of them would be this glum. Prya asked again, “Did you at least get to see the officer in charge or were you blown off like previous times?” This time Bolin shook his head then opened his mouth to answer. “No, this time we managed to see him although it wasn’t at the bureau office but on our way back when we encountered him handling a case on the streets.” “Really?” Bolin nodded, confirmin
The Plan Commences
A new day approached, and Cale remained in captivity, unable to witness the rising dawn over the morning horizon. The first thing that greeted Cale upon waking was the glaring lights of the laboratory, where he had slept chained to the same bed he had awoken in. Next, a few people wearing long white coats entered, carrying various utensils in their arms.Three men entered Cale’s room in total. One of them, a drooping sort of man of extremely average height, walked ahead of the other two with a few vials on a tray, while the other two each carried a device in their hands.Still groggy from the abrupt awakening, Cale blinked as he watched the newcomers approach his bed. Upon reaching him, the three dropped their baggage before the drooping man reached for a button on the underside of Cale’s bed. After pressing it, the bed began to elevate, inclining Cale’s body upwards.Hiss! The mechanical sound of air suspension hissed quietly as Cale’s body was placed upright, bringing him face-to-fa
The Plan Commences 1
Cale watched as the researchers went about their work, moving about in a buzz of activity. The portly researcher was beside Cale’s bed with several vials of unknown substances that he used to mix and swirl together to concoct some kind of cocktail. As for the other two, they carried the devices in their hands and began setting them up around Cale—one behind Cale’s head and the other by his legs. More than what the portly researcher was doing, Cale was more interested in what the other two were up to so he asked, “Hey, what is that you’re doing over there? What device is that?” All three researchers lifted their heads after hearing Cale speak but only briefly before ignoring him and continuing with their work. Seeing this, Cale pressured. “Come on, I believe you can at least chat a little while doing your work and it wouldn’t be interfering would it?” “Look at me—I'm strapped to a metal bed and can barely move—what harm could talking with me do at all?” After Cale stopped speaking
The Plan Commences 2
When Cale touched the portly researcher’s hand, on the other side of the room where the one-way mirror was located, Selene smiled imperceptibly knowing that the plan was a success. That was one person down, with this the rest should be much easier.“Ma’am, there's a sudden spike in the subject's heart rate.”Just then, a voice came from behind Selene from one of the researchers monitoring his vitals notifying her about a change in Cale’s stats.Selene looked at the readings knowing fully well that it was caused by Cale being unable to contain his excitement from succeeding in controlling one of the researchers.Normally, anybody that was paying attention would notice something strange with the timing of when Cale touched the portly researcher to the sudden spike in his heart rate and they might connect it together to speculate that Cale was up to something which could jeopardize the plan. But that was why Selene was here. Not dwelling on the readings much, Selene immediately dismissed
Fellowship Of The Faithful
Cale stared curiously at the portly researcher, his heart beating frantically from excitement and fear as he anticipated what was to come. This was the first time Cale was witnessing his power in action and he had to say, it was a bit underwhelming in its impact. There wasn’t any noticeable effect to be seen nor any indication that it had worked. From the moment Cale touched the researcher and used his power till now, it seemed like nothing had happened. But when the researcher turned around to look at Cale, their eyes met and immediately, Cale knew that it had worked. There wasn’t any noticeable no way to explain this feeling. Normally looking at the portly researcher who was very close to Cale, there was no way to tell if he was actually under control, same as with Selene which is why Cale had misunderstood Selene when he had first woken up. But the moment he looked into their eyes, Cale knew they were under his control and completely loyal to him. It was like looking in a m
Fellowship Of The Faithful 1
Hobbs and Jenkins, both were under Cale’s control, leaving just the last researcher left for Cale to control. “Is there a problem over there?” Selene’s voice sounded once more from the speakers, asking a question that was directed at both Hobbs and Jenkins. Jenkins quickly replied, “No ma’am. Theres just be slight mistake in the drugs dosages that might affect the readings of the machine. We’re trying to fix it now.” “Then hurry it up and don't waste any more time,” Selene ordered coldly. “Yes ma’am,” Jenkins replied then hurriedly called to the last researcher in the room. “Hey, Fazz, come and help me verify these settings to make sure there's no problems later. Fazz who was the last remaining researcher in the room looked over at the other two with a slightly apprehensive glance. He was very reluctant to go over because he didn’t want to add any more work to his load. Normally, Fazz would’ve found a way to brush off the request but with Selene’s earlier command to hurry up, h
Krasin’s Scrutiny
Somewhere in the laboratory, Krasin watched the preparations for the drug testing taking place in Cale’s room through the monitors in his office.Although Krasin agreed to let Selene take charge, he never truly intended to leave everything to her for he planned to monitor everything single step of the test to make sure she didn’t try anything at all.Part of this naturally stemmed from Krasin’s distrust of Selene due to their rivalry with each other but deep down another part of Krasin held some suspicion about Selene.Ever since Cale woke up, Selene’s behavior had changed. It wasn’t a big change but rather a slight change in the way she handled matters with regard to Cale and the experiments. The Selene of before would never have come to Krasin to ask for permission to take over the next phase of testing. Her pride wouldn’t have allowed her to, instead, Selene would’ve waited, biding her time until Krasin made a mistake before she would make her move to undermine him.If Krasin was t
