CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY ONE
The moment Amanda locked eyes with Devin across the room, her blood boiled like oil. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. She had heard people talking about him after he had fought, but she had been too disgusted too look. How dare he be here? How dare he stand there, looking so calm, drinking whiskey, and walking around like he was the goddamn main character of the world? She hated him. Heavens, she hated him so much. Amanda shoved Klaus’s hand off her waist without a word and began strutting through the crowd like a woman on a mission. And she was on a mission. She had to speak to the man who ruined her life and let him know that she would set him on fire! Heads turned as she stormed past them, her heels clacked against the marble like gunshots. “Isn’t that Amanda?” “She looks stunning!” “She’s a whore, no!” “Yes, I saw her sex tape!” A man said before receiving a slap from his red faced wife. “Thomas! How dare you?!” Devin saw her coming and continued with

The shattered glass were scattered all over the marble, glinting. There was silence in the hall, and everyone stood frozen, staring at Devin. Amanda’s chest heaved as she stood in place, her eyes wild, and her lips trembling with fury. The wine bottle she had thrown was now in pieces behind Devin, and she let out a small growl. She had meant to hit him in the back of his head with that bottle, to send him into a world of pain. Devin didn’t even flinch. He hadn’t even turned around to look at the glass yet. He just stood there, with his back to her, calm as ever. The most dangerous kind of calm. But he was also annoyed. He had thought it was over with all the nonsense he had gone through today, but it looked like the day had other plans, and it included the ever irritating Amanda. Amanda took a step closer to him. “What is it? Are you scared now?” She shouted, her voice cracking. “Are you going to hit me? Huh? Go on! Hit me! I dare you!” Her voice went around the ballroom, an

People stopped and stared, clapping for Devin as Amanda was dragged out, and slowly, the ballroom regained its earlier rhythm. People were talking about, and raising their glasses in honour of the man who had kept his calm amidst the storm. Devin Stone. More guests now treated Devin like he was a hero. Like he was some legend reborn in flesh. Devin felt strange about it, perhaps coming with the intention to be hidden wasn’t the best way of moving. “You handled that with such restraint.” A grey haired man said, walking up to Devin. “If it were me, I’d have broken her jaw.” “Probably would’ve called the police, not hit her.” Another one quipped, sending a warning glance to the first man. “It takes a certain kind of man to stand still through that madness.” Someone laughed loudly, clapping Devin on the shoulder. “Devin fucking Stone.” An obviously younger man said, clearly intoxicated. “Man of the hour. What does it take to work with you? That has been my dream since… sin
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FOUR
Devin nodded, still talking to a red-haired investor and his friend who were busy explaining something about sustainable infrastructure. The men had good points, but it wasn’t anything that he hadn’t heard yet, or ever. Besides, he was barely listening now. His head had started to throb violently, which was strange. Devin could tell that it was not from the noise from the guests, and Amanda had gone a while ago. Not like he was even pissed when she was in, no. He just felt inconvenienced. So why this now? This was a strange pull in his chest, like something hot and powerful was clawing up his spine, begging to come out. It was his powers, but what was up with that? He clenched his jaw and focused on the glass of water in his hand. Just stay down. Just stay down, and it will all be fine, he thought to himself. The feeling surged again, harder this time. His fingers trembled slightly, and he quickly dropped the glass and shoved his hands into his pockets. “…so if Stonehenge b
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE
The golden cracks in Devin’s body were spreading. He stared at them, his palms pressed against the sink, trying to breathe through the burning surge crawling up his spine. The energy within him was now screaming, demanding to be released, to be seen, to devour everything in its way. But he couldn’t let that happen, obviously. “This is getting worse…” He muttered, his voice hoarse. His phone, still on speaker, crackled as Viktor’s started to speak again. “Wait! Why are you talking about holding it in? That’s what your mother’s necklace was for. Use it!” Devin sighed, annoyed. “Viktor, do you think I’m a fool? I’ve had it on all this time, but it’s not working.” There was silence on the other end for a few seconds. “Wait, so you’re telling me you’ve been struggling to hold on your this power in while wearing your mother’s necklace?” “Yes!” Devin snapped. “It’s been around my neck the whole damn night. What makes you think I would forget ba bout that?” “Fuck…” Vi
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY SIX
Devin didn't wait. As soon as he left the bathroom, he kept his head down and headed straight for the exit. He had to make his way out as soon as possible. The hall was still buzzing and full of life. But all of it, the clinking of dainty glasses, the polite lies and power games, none of them mattered to him right now. Not like they had ever mattered to him. He just happened to find himself in that world. And now, he just needed to get out before his body decided to turn into a solar flare. "Sir, would you please—?" "No!” Devin said quickly to a server who tried to hand him a drink. He didn't even make eye contact. He couldn't do that with anyone. The pressure in his chest felt like a rising volcano. If he stopped to breathe, he wasn't sure the room would still be standing in one piece, not to mention the people. He was five steps from the door when someone stepped into his path, smirking. "Cousin.” Klaus said smoothly. "Where's the fire?" Devin didn't stop. He stepped
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY SEVEN
The wind howled around Devin as he pulled into the driveway, the tires of his black car screeching slightly against the pavement as he arrived. His hands were shaking so bad that he almost dropped the keys trying to get the door open. The necklace burned against his chest, and his breathing was shallow. His body felt like a damn nuclear reactor about to blow. He shoved the door open and stepped inside, the lights flicking overhead as if the energy in him was screwing with the electricity. “Kia!” He called out. “Kia!” From the kitchen, Kia rushed out immediately, barefoot and in a loose white T-shirt that barely covered her baby bump. Her eyes widened the second she saw him. “Devin… oh my God, Devin!” She exclaimed. He looked like hell. His skin was glowing in cracks of gold from his wrists up to his neck. His hoodie was barely clinging to him, and his pupils were basically molten. His jaw clenched, and he was sweating like a man who had fought a fire with his bare hands.
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY EIGHT
Viktor sat in the backseat of a rented car parked on a quiet road, his legs crossed, fingers steepled under his chin, and eyes locked on the dancing flames of a miniature floating flame he had conjured in the air. It hovered nicely, then flickered violently, uncontrolled. It started to get bigger. Just like Devin’s energy had. And that was the fucking problem all this time. He clenched his jaw and swiped his fingers through the flame, extinguishing it instantly. It was just a pity that he couldn’t control Devin as easily as that. “It didn’t work.” He muttered. The driver turned slightly from the front. “Sir?” “Nothing. You can drive now.” He said calmly. But inside, Viktor was fuming. He had triggered it. He had used his gift, his secret ability, to push Devin’s power from beneath the surface and to make it unstable. It wasn’t the first time he’d done it either. This was one of his special tricks, and if Devin was any other person, his internal lock should’ve burst w
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY NINE
The mansion stood like a huge, quiet beast under the pale moonlight. Klaus stood at the black iron gates, staring at the familiar estate. It had been years since he last walked this ground, and yet, he could still smell the old money and traditional values being instilled in him as a little boy. He took a deep breath, shoved his hands into the pockets of his long coat, and went forward. The guards by the main entrance gave him a look of confusion, then straightened. “State your business.” “Tell Elijah that his grandson is here.” Klaus said coolly. “And no, not that his favourite one.” The guards exchanged glances but said nothing. One of them disappeared into the mansion. Klaus waited, whistling under his breath as the cold breeze swept over the gravel. Minutes later, the doors opened, and the other guard waved him in. The entrance hall was lined with marble, new decorations, and the thick scent of poshness. Paintings of ancestors stared down with judgmental eyes. Klaus
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY
Devin kept tossing in bed. Who could be calling him at this time? And his phone was kept on Do Not Disturb for everyone except important— no! He jerked awake, groggy and disoriented. The room was still dark with all the windows closed, the only light coming from the TV’s paused screen and a lamp in the corner. Kia was asleep next to him, curled up beneath a blanket with one hand on her belly. Devin rubbed his eyes, snatched up the phone, and answered without checking the screen. “Yeah?” He said, his voice rough from sleep. “Master Devin, it’s Blaise Henry. I’m so sorry to call this late—” Devin sat up straight immediately. “Henry? What happened? Why are you calling at this time?” “It’s your grandfather. His house… there was a fire. A bad one.” Devin froze. His entire chest stopped moving for a second. “Wait, what are you saying to me right now?” “I have no idea of how better to put it. They think he’s dead. I’m at the scene. It’s not a good sight, Devin. Really
