Chapter 101I kept holding. The thought of what I was slowly becoming scared the hell out of me. I knew something was wrong with me. With my system. Miralda was pushing me to my limit. Breaking me bit by bit. Saul’s words kept echoing in my ears. The loud gunshot that robbed Park of his life and the devilish smile on Nathan's face was all I could think about. The pain meant little to me. All I focused on was two things. Rescuing the little friends I had made in the dungeon I was being thrown after each experiment. I began to think Donovan had forgotten me. We had a deal and he was going to pull me out when everything was going awol.I was beginning to think I had been forgotten and left there to rot in Milrada's dungeon. I could feel my body changing. The constant headache and the sore eyes. Everything was getting to me. I began to lose hope of getting out alive. But maybe that was the point. Maybe Miralda knew exactly what she was doing—removing every layer of identity I had,

Chapter 102The static deepened—warping, unraveling into shapes and pulses of light until a face appeared in the projection. Not a person.A symbol. The sigil of the Varia Project. Twisting, burning like embers forged from code. Then a voice, smooth and synthetic, filled the room.“Sequence initialized. Subject: Adrian. Restriction protocol: lifted.”The disc pulsed once—then again—before surfing a wave of heat that slammed into my chest like a defibrillator. I screamed, not from pain, but from the surge. It wasn’t electricity—it was power. Like my cells had been dormant, waiting for permission to awaken. Now the shackles were off.The headache vanished. The burning in my eyes? Gone.In its place was clarity. My fingertips trembled—then glowed, veins lighting up like neon pathways. My heartbeat sounded like thunder, my breath came in bursts, and I could hear—not just the walls humming, but conversations three chambers over. Heartbeats. The shifting of guards’ boots. Someone is crying

Chapter 103 As the building collapsed around us my gaze was fixed on the kids and some of the adults that were taken. There was little time for introducing ourselves. I noticed some of them kept looking at me while some were even scared of me. “ I am not going to harm any of you. Where are you from?” I asked one of the students staring at me. “ Chicago.” She said weakly and burst into tears. “ My mother must be worried by now.” She said sobbing I looked at them and I felt moved. “ Don't worry, guys. We are all going home.”The word was comforting but now I had to back it with some action. My powers were beginning to give some side effects. I winced in pain each time as I tried to find the meeting point on the map. A low rumble vibrated through the floor, and the ceiling above groaned as debris rained down like judgment. I shielded the nearest kids with my body, raising an arm instinctively—the kinetic field flared out again, forming a dome that deflected the falling metal. Pain l

Chapter 104“ It is me.” She said with a gentle voice. My eyes nearly popped out of their socket when I saw it was her.“Juliet,” I called out slowly. “ How did you get here?” I said feeling sympathy for her. Her body was deformed and she looked like she was going to die anytime soon. “ I knew. I saw the demon Nathan and his father. The manor was never all about this. It was about having power inside the school. We never wanted to destroy any lives but Nathan had other plans. He…” Juliet was about to say another word when she sputtered out blood from her mouth. “ Step on it!” I shouted at Junno from where I sat. “ We could know about what is going back home if we manage to save her life.” Juno didn’t wait for a second command. Her hands gripped the wheel and the transport roared to life, careening down the broken trail that led away from the collapsed facility. The sky was still streaked with smoke and the ash of fallen buildings, but the horizon showed the first real blue I’d se

Chapter 105 We reached the Carter mansion back in time. The servants rushed towards us to help some of the students into the compound while a stretcher was brought for Juliet. I didn't allow them to take her. I was going to make sure I saw all the processes of her recovery. The underground med-bay—where Juno said sympathetic doctors still operated in secret—was our only shot. I carried Juliet in my arms like she was made of glass, her blood soaking through my shirt, my own injuries forgotten. Juno had radioed ahead, and a nurse waited by the entrance, her eyes wide with worry as she ushered us through the maze of the underground facilities. I looked around, not sure if the Carters had something like this. The smell of antiseptic filled the room as we approached. “She’s crashing,” the nurse said sharply, checking Juliet’s pulse as I laid her on a stretcher. “We need a plasma transfusion—stat!” I didn’t move. I just stood still, staring at Juliet, who looked like she was

Chapter 106“ We lost them. And the whole building was blown down.” One of Milrada's men said, looking at her. “ What do you mean you lost them?” Milrada said in anger. “ Are you telling me you cannot take down just one person!” Miralda snapped. Before one of them could move she gunned him down.“ You are going to get out there and bring him back to this instance!” The remaining men stood frozen, the sound of the gunshot still bouncing off the cold steel walls of the bunker. The lifeless body of their comrade slumped at Milrada's feet, blood pooling beneath him like an offering to her fury.“Clean this mess,” she snarled, holstering her sidearm with a practiced flick. “And send in Delta Unit. If regular enforcers can’t handle one runaway experiment, it’s time we escalate.”One of the men swallowed hard and nodded. “Yes, ma’am.”She turned, her long coat flaring behind her as she strode out of the room. Behind her, the rest scrambled to carry out her orders, careful not to make a so

Chapter 107The tunnels were suffocatingly narrow, the walls dripping with moisture and the air thick with the stench of rust and decay. I led the strike team—Juno, Saul, and four of our best fighters—through the winding path beneath District 9. Above us, Milrada’s fortress loomed, a monument of steel and cruelty, built upon the bones of forgotten test subjects. If I was told I was going to be doing all of this then I would not believe it. My grip tightened around my weapon as we reached the final breach point. Saul placed a charge on the sewer grate leading into the subterranean access shaft. We all crouched low.He looked at us counting his fingers. “Three… two…”The blast was muffled but precise, just enough to dislodge the vent without triggering seismic alarms. We poured into the tunnel, rifles raised, night-vision lenses sliding into place. We entered a service corridor first, cold and eerily silent. The hum of machinery echoed through the walls. Juno took point, guiding us th

Chapter 108The morning sun bled gold over the shattered ruins of Milrada’s compound, casting long shadows over the wreckage. Helicopters whirred in the distance, and allied clean-up crews were descending on the exposed facility with forensic urgency. The reporters and bloggers were all over the place trying to catch an exclusive report on what happened in the facility that Miralda had disguised under the name of charity support. The world would soon know what had happened beneath District 9—what had been built in the dark. What had nearly been unleashed? But I wasn’t thinking about the headlines. Not yet.I was thinking about home. Most of the interviews that were being thrown my way were shielded by the Carter family. “ He is not ready.” That was the simple explanation that was given to most of them. Although I wished I could take on some of the interviews. I was dying so hard to tell the world what a monster Milrada was and how she had grown her wings into most of the countries

Chapter 109The sky was painted hue blue as I stepped out of the Carter's mansion. They all were outside to bid me farewell. I still didn't believe I was going back home.It all felt like yesterday when I grabbed my bags at the orphanage in search of the truth. To know who my real parents were and to take revenge on whoever it was that had them murdered. But I have done more than what I came here to do and now, I am going back home. “ We are always going to be your family, Adrian. Don't you ever forget that you are a Carter and when you think you want to come back, there is going to be a home for you to go back into. We love you.” The oldest man in the Carter family said with a smile on his face. We boarded the private jet in silence, a Carter-family charter with blacked-out windows and no callsign. Saul stayed behind, overseeing the cleanup and ensuring the narrative that reached the world was controlled, evidence-laced, and undeniable.Juliet sat beside me, her fingers lightly in

Chapter 110 The loud noise inside Northvale University was the same as always, but it was different this time. It wasn't the usual noise of the students preparing for their daily academics; it was a noise of what happened and the news circulating the city. “ Did you hear about the children's experiments?” “ I thought this was just about drug dealings and readings?” “ I heard someone pull down the stronghold.” “ Do you know who that is?” “ I heard it is someone named Adrian.” Marcus and Ren were passing by when they heard my name. “ When was the last time you talked to him?” Ren asked, “ You mean Adrian?” Marcus asked, staring at him. “ You know who I am talking about, so stop with the pretense.” “ The last time I spoke with Adrian was when he went in search of who his real parents were. I haven't been able to speak with him ever since then. I don't know, maybe he is dead or something.” Marcus said, looking at him. “ Do you think he has anything to do with what is going on?”
