Chapter 108

The morning sun bled gold over the shattered ruins of Milrada’s compound, casting long shadows over the wreckage. Helicopters whirred in the distance, and allied clean-up crews were descending on the exposed facility with forensic urgency.

The reporters and bloggers were all over the place trying to catch an exclusive report on what happened in the facility that Miralda had disguised under the name of charity support.

The world would soon know what had happened beneath District 9—what had been built in the dark. What had nearly been unleashed?

But I wasn’t thinking about the headlines. Not yet.

I was thinking about home.

Most of the interviews that were being thrown my way were shielded by the Carter family.

“ He is not ready.”

That was the simple explanation that was given to most of them. Although I wished I could take on some of the interviews. I was dying so hard to tell the world what a monster Milrada was and how she had grown her wings into most of the countries

Chapter 219“ She is back,” Zee said gently, her hands dropping to her side. I was lost for a brief moment. I stared at her, and I could see the anger underneath her gentle face.“ Who is back?” I asked, moving closer to her. “ Tessa,” Zee said with a cold countenance. I let out a gentle sigh, not knowing what to say. “ Ain't you going to say anything!” Zee said in an outburst. I knew this was going to happen. Zee was insecure when it came to her sister. Tessa was manipulative, and I cannot help but sometimes react to her impulsive behaviour. “ What do you want me to say, Zee? She is your sister, and you are my girlfriend. If she is coming into the country, then I say leave her be.” There was a moment of silence between us. I knew what she was scared of. If I were her, I would be scared, too. “ I have to go,” Zee said, grabbing her bag.I didn't push any further. I just went back to my couch and sat down. I was having a lot of issues, and Zee’s problem was the least of it all

Chapter 218 “ Are you sure about this?” Zee asked, staring at me. “ We all have our part to play in all of this. Don't you think so?” I replied. “ I am not sure of anything at the moment, Adrian. We have been going in circles for how long now?” Zee said with a frown. “ Taking Nathan down was the mission. And you did take him down. His father? You managed to have Edwin locked away for good, and now all of this is resurfacing the moment we're all trying to get our lives together.” “ What do you think I should do? I can never get rid of this evil in this world. I can only die trying.” I said with sad eyes. “ Why is it your job? You are not a law enforcement officer. Why does all of this fall on you?” Zee said again. I could feel the pain in her voice. The agony in her eyes. A part of me wanted to ask her, to pacify her, that it was soon going to be over, but I knew it was all a lie. More keep coming up the moment I try to stop the ones on the ground. I moved closer to her and g

Chapter 217The man in the gray suit was gone before I could convince myself to follow him. He ordered nothing, didn’t speak to anyone, and left just as silently as he came. Only the sound of the café bell gave away his brief presence. Still, his eyes lingered in my head like smoke in a locked room.“Who was that?” Zee asked, noticing how my attention shifted toward the door.“I don’t know,” I muttered. “But he knew me.”Zee’s brows furrowed. “Maybe you’re just being paranoid again. You’ve been through enough to think every stranger wants your head.”I didn’t answer because the truth was, my gut rarely lied. My instincts had saved me more times than I could count, and right now they were screaming.I drained the rest of my coffee and stood. “Let’s go.”“Already?” Zee’s lips curled into a small pout, but she rose with me.The sunlight outside was sharp, cutting across the streets of the city in golden lines. Vendors shouted their wares. Kids ran past with sticky candy fingers. Normalcy

Chapter 216 Nothing. The sound, the eerie laughter, was all for nothing. Silas has relocated with his sister. I can't ask him to stay. He came only because he needed to save her, and he did. My days have been tough. I just got a job with one of the biggest companies in the city. Zee was now on her own, doing beautifully fine, and of course, Park had started therapy. He was now seeing a doctor concerning his illness. I had tried healing him. I gave him my blood, but it won't heal him. I remember how we both cried. Park was the only thing I had close to a family now. Marcus and Ren are doing fine overseas. They texted me a few times, and we tried to stay connected. I think it was for the best. And of course, there was no crisis. There was no one trying to kill me or have Zee kidnapped. Mother Alisha had built a new orphanage, which I sometimes go to every now and then to help her manage. My image around the city was growing intensively, and many of the citizens wanted me to r

Chapter 215 My eyelid flickered before it finally snapped open. I looked around and I could see all of them. For a moment, I thought I was dead. My face went pale, and I gulped down the thick saliva at the back of my throat. Zee looked at me and she ran closer, “ You scared us. Are you alright?” She said slowly, grabbing my arm. Her touch felt warm. “ Are we..” “ Dead?” Park said, getting up from the chair he sat on. “ Of course not, we are not dead. You should thank Silas here, who came in the nick of time.” Elira got closer and smiled. “ You are stronger than you look. We might save this planet after all. But we need to do it as a team.” “ What about Damien? Did you...” “ He is dead! No one tries to harm my sister and get to tell the story.” Silas said with anger. “ And the Warden?” I asked again. “ Dead. Do you honestly think I was going to leave that fucking place without making sure he is dead?” Park said with a grin. I looked at his face and I could see a number of br

Chapter 214 I looked up the tunnel and saw it was Silas’s sister. “ You can't save her, Adrian. Save yourself.” Damien said, staring at me. “ And who are you to tell me why and what not to do?” I snapped at him. “ I'm coming!” I shouted from where I was. “ We need to get the hell out of here. Don't tell me that you cannot make this small sacrifice. You let her die, and we get to save ourselves.” Damien said again. “ You say that word one more time, and I am going to throw you off this cliff!” Damien looked at me and laughed. “ I alone know the way out of here. You are going to need to trust me when I tell you what we need to do. And right now, I am telling you that you need to let go.” Without saying another word to him, I jumped and flew downward. It's been a long time since I flew. I was a little rusty now, but I managed to find my balance and flew upward to get Silas' sister. She hugged me tightly with her breath clashing against my skin. “ It is alright. We are going to ge
