Chapter 61The air outside was crisp, laced with the faint scent of dew and pine. Each breath I took felt like a cleansing of my lungs, yet my heart remained heavy. The stars above stretched endlessly, untouched by the chaos brewing in my life. Ren walked silently beside me, occasionally glancing around the grounds with practiced vigilance. His dislocated shoulder was now properly wrapped, but I knew he was still in pain.“Where do you want to go?” Ren asked, his voice a murmur against the stillness of the night.“Anywhere I can calm myself,” I said, kicking a pebble along the gravel path. “I need to breathe, to think.” I could not bear to tell him what I did back there. The fear of being judged for being called a murderer gnawed at me. I don't know if I was wrong to have done what I did, but I needed to survive, and my instinct kicked in.“ Are you alright?” Ren asked after studying me. He could see the look in my eyes. “ Why? Is there something wrong?” I asked back immediately, t

Chapter 62 I looked at the message and tucked the phone into my pocket. “ I think I will need you to always follow me down to school as my personal guard. Ren, you cannot be everywhere at the same time. I need someone closer to me to protect me,” I said, looking at Ren, who nodded. “You can actually be a better fighter if you can allow me to train you,” Ren said, adjusting the strap on his injured shoulder.I turned away from the pond, my gaze shifting back toward the mansion, silhouetted in the dim light of the approaching dawn. The stillness in the air was deceptive. War was coming—just not the kind fought with armies.“You really think I can get better?” I asked, doubting myself more than I cared to admit.“I don’t think so. I know,” Ren replied firmly. “But you need to be serious about it. No half-measures. No running from pain.”I nodded. “Then we start tomorrow. Early.”“Five a.m.,” he said, already smirking.I rolled my eyes. “Of course.”A cold breeze swept through the gazeb

Chapter 63I was the definition of lying low. Trying to avoid Nathan as much as I could. And of course, Tessa also. I was back to living the life I left behind. And of course, we were recruiting. Most of the students who Nathan and his father had crossed. Ren helped in grabbing their names while I focused more on my studies.Park also had been focused more on his studies. We are in our final year and we need to concentrate more on studies. I was in my department when I heard a loud noise just outside my department. I closed my books and was about to get up to my feet when Nathan and Jack walked in with their cronies right behind them. “ Do you think you can hide from me forever?” Natah taunted, walking towards me. “ I heard you escaped. A part of me still wondered how you managed to escape a fortified castle. But of course, you killed my men. Which makes you what now?” Nathan laughed, looking at me. “ I didn't kill anyone anymore, and if anyone is to be arrested, it is you. Do I

Chapter 64I looked at their faces as they all sat in front of me. “ You all know why you are here, if I am right,” I said gently, staring at their faces. The atmosphere was cool, and the gentle breeze smashed against our faces.“ We all know Nathan and his father are a menace, and they will continue to walk all over us if we decide not to do anything,” I said again, trying to make one of them speak up.They all have been silent so far. I kept wondering if this was work, if they were not speaking up. “ I know we all are scared of Nathan and his father, but then we need to make a move. If we don't, then I don't think this circle will ever end.”I paused again and looked at their faces.Still nothing.“ You all came because you wanted this, just like I do. Why are you not talking?” I said, rubbing my hair gently. It was evident that I was beginning to feel frustrated.“ And who is going to look after us? Because to me, it seems you want us to fight the battle you are currently fighting.

Chapter 65“ Why did you change your mind?” I asked, staring at him. “ Because there is power in numbers, as I believe in what you are doing,” Marcus said, lifting his gaze to meet mine. “ I heard what Nathan did to you. I will be more than happy to team up with you in taking him down.” I noticed a shift in the atmosphere. The students all looked at Marcus and whispered among themselves. It was as though his voice had pierced through the thick veil of fear hanging over them like a cloud of suffocating silence. Maybe it wasn’t my words they needed. Maybe they needed someone who wasn’t me to take the first step.“Marcus?” Jayden muttered beside me, almost in disbelief. “You’re with him?”Marcus turned, pulled down the hood of his sweatshirt, and revealed a deep scar running down the side of his face. The mark wasn't new. I’d seen it before, when we were together in the little room Nathan had us tucked into. I remembered him telling me he got the scar when Nathan had nearly beaten Mar

Chapter 66I couldn’t sleep. The photo of Zee stared back at me from the corner of my desk. Her smile—the kind that could light up the darkest corners of my mind—felt like a weight pressing down on my chest. I hadn’t spoken to her in days, not because I didn’t want to, but because I didn’t know how to explain the storm I was walking into. Or dragging her into.I know her father would never give a hand to what we had, but still, I wanted to believe Zee loved me and she was true to her feelings. Tessa had shown that she could not be trusted, and I know it was stupid of me to get any emotions for her sister, but I couldn't help it. A soft knock echoed on my door. I froze. Then it opened slightly, revealing Ren’s face.“We need to go,” he said simply.I nodded, grabbed my hoodie, and followed him into the cold. My heart thudded gently, I knew what I was asking of the students I had asked to join hands in taking Nathan down. I knew it was a risk, a gamble, but then we had to give it a tr

Chapter 67 I looked at the picture once again, and I wasn't sure if all of this was a trap. I wondered how Damien knew I was in love with Zee. I wonder how he knew I was going to risk my all to get her out of whatever mess she was in. I knew Damien was doing all this to get at me, and I knew I mustn't panic. I grabbed my phone and looked at Ren, who was now looking at me suspiciously. I knew he saw my countenance, and it was only a matter of time before he started asking questions. “ I need to step out for a bit,” I said, trying to calm my nerves. “ And where are you going?” Ren asked, staring at me. He was good. Another eye contact with him, and he was going to figure out what was going on with me. “ I need to grab something at the mall. I noticed there isn't enough at home anymore.” I lied “ And since when have you started doing minimal chores at home? I thought we had some of the home staff take care of that.” Ren looked at me. “ Don't worry, I won't be late,” I said immediat

Chapter 68Damien nodded slowly, his grin widening as he stepped back from Zee. “Now, that’s more like the Adrian I know. Always so sure of himself. Always so… cocky.”I ignored his jabs, my eyes fixated on Zee. Her head was down, her knees trembling under her weight. Blood still trailed down the side of her face, soaking into her shirt, and rage coiled in my chest like a spring ready to snap.“I gave you what you wanted,” I said, stepping forward cautiously. “Now let her go.”He chuckled, brushing a strand of hair from his forehead. “Oh Adrian… I said we’re good. I never said anything about letting her go.”My fists clenched. “That wasn’t the deal.”Damien circled me like a wolf would a limping prey. “See, here’s the thing… I don’t trust you. You say one thing, then do another. And until I see my father back in his office, until I see that smug bastard Nathan and his father suffer even a little, she stays with me.”Zee groaned softly, barely conscious, and that was it. I stepped forw

Chapter 69“ You heard when he said your father has been reinstated,” I said with anger coursing through my veins. “ Well, your old man has done what is needed, but I have yet to receive the command to let her go,” Damian said with a wide grin on her face. I wanted to attack him, but then I looked at Zee, and I knew any movement from me was going to result in a result I was not expecting. “ Fine, call whoever is in charge and let them know I have done what you asked of me,” I said in anger. A voice echoed from my back. “ You have done what he wants, but have you done what I want?” I looked back to see Tessa walking right from behind me. “ You? I can't believe you are actually going to go this far to prove a point. And what exactly is your point if I may ask?” I stared at her. “ I told you that you are mine, Adrian. We even had a deal.” Tessa said, looking at me. “That was when I didn't know who you really are and what your endgame is. Do you think I am going to let you use me to ga

Chapter 70Tessa stared at me in silence, her face unreadable. For a second, I thought she would lash out, throw something, scream, or even. But she did none of that.Instead, she let out a cold, clipped laugh. “You’re good, Adrian. You’ve grown teeth. The Adrain that I know would bend his knees and beg me to spare her life.”I let out a gentle smile, “I’ve always had them,” I replied. “You just didn’t notice because you were too busy playing god. Do you think I won't be able to see right through you? Why do you think I came to you when I should have gone to any of those rich and fancy girls on campus?” “ Do you think I care? You really think you have been using me all this while?” She moved closer until we were face to face. “You think this is a game? Do you really believe I’m bluffing with Zee’s life? Because if you do, then you really are stupid.”I didn’t flinch. “And you think I care if you kill her? Go ahead. Prove to everyone just how heartless you are. She isn't my family. S
