CHAPTER 91
Natalie zipped up the suitcase and leaned it against the wall. She didn’t have anything in her that belonged to her but she hoped Nicholas would let her take the ones he had gotten her.She settled down on the bed and picked up the map. For the twentieth time that day she looked through it. She hadn’t decided where she would go. To be honest, she hadn’t traveled much in all her life. She didn’t know anywhere. She sighed, looking away from the map. She always thought so long as she lived in this city and she was next to him, she would never have to leave. She drooped the map, went over to the bar and downed three glasses of vodka. Before she could pour the forth, the keycard sound clinked behind the door. Someone opened it and walked in. He stood there for a moment, staring at her. She beamed, she was a little tipsy but just a little.“You shouldn’t have come. You have a lot of friends. They were all willing to help me out. Even now that you are here, you are still useless to me. Go, I
CHAPTER 92
THE DAY OF THE SUPER SUMMITAfter the special time Nicholas had with Natalie, he knew he was going to get closer and closer to her until at some point their relationship would ceased to be as simple as he planned on making it so he decided that he had to keep Natalie where she wouldn’t become anyone’s leverage on him. So he planned a safe house for her. Now he was going to see her before she left for the safe house.Nicholas took the elevator all the way up to floor for executive suites and he stopped right in front of Natalie’s room. He swiped the key card and pushed the door open, walking tight in.“Nicky.” Natalie almost screamed, scampering for the bedsheets, she held them over her chest, trying to cover up. Nicholas stood, fixed to the entrance staring at her. The sheets weren’t making a very good effort to conceal her nude body. Water was trickling down her pale White skin and dripping on the floor. Although her hair was wet and messy, her frail body turned with shock, she looke
CHAPTER 93
The limousine cruised into the Belford family estate, taking that off road and driving down to the super summit venue. The summit was held at the tallest building in the whole estate built at the further East end of the estate. Only the off roads led to it so the off roads were never open to anyone except on a day like this. The closer the limo got to the venue, the more cars Nicholas could see. It puzzled him at first that all those vehicles were parked here but still the driver was moving past them and going down. How could there still be space in front when the back is full? He didn’t ask the question though, he just watched. The driver kept moving until he came to a stop in front of a tower-like structure that stretched out into the sky and was higher than the empire state building. He parked limo on the left side of the road instead of the right. Nicholas alighted and took in the sight before him and everyone around him.The first thing he noticed was the colors. Everyone was wea
CHAPTER 94
“Nadya, sit down. He is with a violet ribbon so. That means nothing, you of all people know that.” Benedict said. Nadya backs down, crossing her legs. Benedict may be right but still, she had a really bad feeling about this. A really bad feeling.Sir Benedict returned his gaze to the high chairs. He had said all that bull-crap to Nadya but he didn’t buy it. Something was definitely off about that boy. He heaved, leaning back; well whether that boy was a demon or the devil himself, nothing about him, Nicholas, was ever going to ruin today for him. After a while, more and more people began to notice Nicholas and his violet ribbon. Murmurs rippled through the hall, eyes darting towards his direction. Nicholas felt his skin crawl, the eyes on him made him feel so uneasy. He glanced at the butler from the corner of his eyes. The butler was standing beside the throne. The man was fixed there like he was part of the furniture. He seemed to be waiting for something. In fact everyone seemed
CHAPTER 95
Murmurs erupted in the room but for only a moment before it died down. The patriarch rolled his eyes to the front row. The gaze fell on Benedict. Their eyes locked. The Patriarch shook his head. He mouthed something and then he looked away from Benedict.“Why do I say this? Because this family has turned into some secret organization. Some twisted version of the Mafia where people come under the umbrella of a particular name so that they can gain protection to go ahead and do pretty much any fucking thing they like.”Some people on the seats below eyed each other. Others openly acknowledge their guilt with a grin on their faces.“Do you know what I did with all that time I was away? I was thinking. I didn't do much of that and I realized that what we need isn’t just a change of everything. A drastic change, not by me but by someone else.” He paused and looked at Nicholas. He motioned him to stand up. Nicholas sucked in a breath and rose from his chair. He held his head up, looking eve
CHAPTER 96
Nicholas pursed his lips, he knew he would probably smile like an idiot if he let his lips go. Eres obviously noticed that because he laughed at his son. Then he held up the necklace above Nicholas. He told him to lower his head and shut his eyes so they could chant the pledge of the Consortium together.Nicholas closed his eyes and lowered his head. In that split second, something grazed past his head, missing him by a hair’s breath. It impaled the second thing right next to Nicholas; the patriarch’s skull. It happened so fast. No one noticed a thing until the frozen Eres began to leek blood from his forehead.“Oh my god!!!” someone yelled in the crowd, scampering off his seat. Nicholas raised his face immediately, actually he wanted to look towards the screaming person but his gaze fell on something else. The Patriarch, who was right in front of him, had a hole in his head“Oh shit!! No! No! No!” Nicholas grabbed his father who collapsed in his arms. His blood was literally pouring
CHAPTER 97
Nicholas returned to his father who was still lying inside. He left the body out there and just came in. Everyone was gone by then including the founding fathers. The whole place was completely deserted. Only him, his dead father and the butler were left. That butler was standing over the Patriarch’s body when Nicholas came up to it.He moved aside and Nicholas went on his knees, placing his father’s head on his thighs. “Call my driver, tell him to bring my car so I can go somewhere.” He said, his empty eyes just looking down at the dead man in front of him. He blinked and tears trickled down onto his father’s face.“Master Nicholas, I should call an ambulance. He needs to go to the hospital, the morgue or something.”“Belling, now is not that time to do what I didn’t tell you. Call my driver and get my car. I will not like to repeat myself.” Nicholas’ voice was deep but still barely audible. The butler bowed and went away immediately leaving Nicholas alone with his father.Nicholas’
CHAPTER 98
The driver of the mad car jumped down. He went around Nora’s damaged vehicle and he cracked the door open, yanking her out and tossing her to the floor like she was trash. He was a towering inch of 6’7, bulky and packed with thick, stone-hard muscles. The man’s lips were burned shut so he didn’t speak to her.He dipped a hand in his pocket and he took out a flat circular disk thingy. He placed it on the ground and pressed what looked like a button on the side. A hologram fizzled up. The man knelt down on one knee and pulled Nora by the hair, raising her face off the sand so she could look at the hologram. One of her eyes was swollen badly and she was squinting with the other. There was a figure created by the hologram, a figure of a woman in a nun’s attire. She stared at Nora with blank eyes almost as if Nora’s wounds were invisible.“Nora, Nora. I raised you when the Patriarch discarded you and forced you into becoming a slave. I gave your life meaning but you still decided to double
CHAPTER 99
“Sister Ann, can you hear me? Big sister, can you hear me? How many fingers I’m I holding?” The teenage boy couldn’t stop talking when he saw that Nora’s eyes were opening slowly. His voice was laced with worry and his face held a frightened expression. Although he was annoying, it was forgivable because he was obviously very concerned.Nora groaned, shuffling; she was trying to get up. The teenage boy just watched her, his fist clenched. He looked like he was desperately fighting back the urge to make her stay down in bed but he knew she was never going to listen. Well not to him. The boy looked behind him, at the man shrouded in the darkness on the left corner of the room, his eyes begging for the man to help him say what he couldn’t.“Stay down Nora. Don’t make me come over and do it myself.” He said. Nora settled back in bed immediately. The boy smiled broadly, sitting back down on the floor and placing his head on Nora’s arms. He shut his eyes, wiping the tear rolling down his c
CHAPTER 100
Nicholas lowered his head and looked down at the necklace on the floor, glimmering in the light of the setting sun. It was a big and beautiful piece of jewelry, no doubt but there was a story behind it; deep down he knew that if he heard that story nothing would ever be the same again..Unconsciously, he stared at the jewel for quite a while. It was the vanishing of the sun that drew him back to reality and it dawned on him that he had been standing still for god-knows-how-long. He hissed, looking away. ‘Do you want to know the truth? To kill who killed your father?’ He asked himself. He took another look at that gun and knew that the answers were obvious. He bent down slowly and picked up the necklace. He held it to Hagan’s face.“Go on.”Hagan nodded. He pointed at the bottom of that necklace and asked Nicholas to cut himself with the bottom of it. Nicholas followed the instruction and went ahead to pierce his thumb with the bottom. Immediately it drew blood, the gem in the necklace
