Chapter 11. Mana Forest.
The walk back was lonesome and dark, night creatures moved as it was in their nature to hunt at night. The sounds of predators stalking prey filled the air, the screams of dying animals, the howls of wolves as they claimed their victories. Rhok could hear all of this. But he could not be seen.Steadily, he lurked in the shadows, he walked amongst the monsters, moving with stealth, adept in his way of survival. He couldn't dare let himself be found, a free ticket to the afterlife if he did.It was a mana forest, although this forest that surrounded the Vale Household seemed less dangerous than the others, but it was still dangerous enough. There were classes of beasts that he was unable to handle, and after his ordeal at the cave, he didn't trust himself enough to take on another daring experience.Time moved quickly, but Rhok was faster. Before he could be noticed by any of the mana beasts, he escaped the forest and arrived at his makeshift hut. He saw a torch being swung around at hi
Chapter 12. Bastard Son.
“Keep your back straight, Eiran".“Arms stretch forward and maintain your stance”, a loud voice commanded as a cane struck the back of Rhok.He ignored the pain, rather, he pretended to endure the pain. Five years had passed since the day he made his promise to Aunt Fey. Five years he had waited and trained himself, becoming stronger with every passing season.Though he was still very far off from where he wanted to be, he was strong enough now. He fixed his muscles and made another vertical swing with his training sword. After his Father, Lord Vale, had found out that he had created his own mana core, he ordered that Rhok be sent to be trained to become a knight of some sort.Something about raising the prestige of the Vale family. Rhok couldn't care less. The man who commanded the training was well known amongst the soldiers of the Vale Household. He was a knight, more importantly, an Aura user.Rhok could not understand why he had decided to remain faithful to the Vale family whil
Chapter 13.Dumb Reasons for Treason.
“Ooh Heavens…" the woman in bed yelped as Rhok abruptly entered the room. To his surprise, Lord Vale didn't stop.He just kept on pounding the poor girl while she tried to get his attention to Rhok. He ignored her and kept on at what he was doing.A sore sight for Rhok.He wished he had knocked instead; things didn't become better as the bed folds fell off, and Lord Vale's bare bum was revealed.Hairy and chubby.Rhok took interest in what he saw, not because he was stimulated. But because he wondered why the Lord's ass jiggled so much.[OOHH MY!]'Shut up, Abyss Engine'[WOULDN'T YOU LIKE TO JOIN IN?][IT'S USUALLY DONE AMONGST THE REALMS.]'What the fuck? Who has orgies? In what realms?'He spat in disgust just as the Lord emptied his load into the young lady. He collapsed, looking quite exhausted.Rhok cleared his throat.“You called?” Lord Vale looked at him with a bit of confusion and interest, then his face lit with recognition.“Aahh, you're my bastard”, he said with a smile.
Chapter 14. Tallest Dwarf.
Sitting in front of a fireplace, wearing a long shawl with a hood to hide his face. Rhok held a long stick in hand. He watched the flames dance around freely as they eagerly ate up the wood. Burning everything to cinders. It was almost time.He placed his hands in front of him, embracing the warmth of the fire. Steel daggers hung from his waist, a short sword by his side and throwing knives placed hidden in several pockets. He closed his eyes and spread his shadow sense. More than a dozen, about sixteen people. He felt their shadows as they drew closer to him. Closer to their death. He smiled out of habit, then frowned.A feeling of disgust washed over him. Rhok had no problem being a killer or a hired assassin. But being forced to do it? That was something else entirely, that was how he had lived his past life and how it had ended. He sighed.'Hopefully, I won't mess it up in this life. ' He stood up from the fireplace and walked towards the vault. He knew what lay beyond.Things tha
Chapter 15. Savages.
“Iris!” The archer cried out as the healer dropped dead. One down.“You bastard, how dare you?” The archer screamed bringing out three arrows at once.Well, damn. These arrows were heavily infused with mana. The archer shot them in his direction, it was blinding fast. There was no time for Rhok to dodge them so he let the arrows come.As soon as the arrows made contact, Rhok altered his form into a silhouette of a man. The arrows passed through him.Aiming for the half dwarf. The half dwarf placed his battleaxe before him, creating an aura shield. The force of the impact was tremendous.'That… Would have killed me'.Rhok understood that he was lacking in experience compared to them, but this much? It felt as though the Half dwarf had been expecting that attack.“What form was that boy?” The half dwarf asked Rhok. They grew even more conscious. They knew their attacks wouldn't land on him.He had given away his trump card. He sighed and decided to take these seriously. These weren't me
Chapter 16. Terrible Assassins.
His blades met with that of another man who stood behind. He had just one eye, the other eye was blinded with a scar running down across his face.“Hehe…” he smirked, seemingly enjoying the thrill of having to kill someone young.Rhok jumped back and resumed his position, he crouched down and dashed at the man's feet, in sequence the man jumped high to the ceiling and upturned himself. Using the ceiling as a foothold, he pushed himself downwards with enough force to splinter the floorboards upon his landing. His blades missed as Rhok reappeared at the door.Rhok looked at the group more carefully.'Hired killers are such a bother.'He straightened up and looked at his opponents once more, the others seemed to relax and rest on the walls. No doubt enjoying the fight between him and the man.“Ooh don't worry, we wouldn't dare intervene in your fight” the man who had thrown the axe said to Rhok. He grinned wickedly, and so did the others. His opponent stood awkwardly and looked at Rho
Chapter 17. Mercy.
Rhok gazed at the spiral stairs that laid out before him. He hated stairs, he would much rather change into his shadow form and crawl up than use his aching legs. Not just that, he wanted to get this done as fast as possible. The two remaining groups and a vault lay ahead. He wasn't in a hurry because he knew why they couldn't open it. Soon he saw the door up ahead, it was closed shut, but he felt the presence of eight more people just beyond it. More lives to reap.He walked towards the door and felt at the dried out oak wood, he had been the one that dragged in the numerous bags of gold in here. It had been tedious work, but now it paid off.His goal was to gather the remnants of the attackers to a point of no retreat in the castle. The tallest spire in the castle, that was where they were.He pulled his hand away and infused mana into his body and legs, this was his last hurdle. If he survived this, he would be a free man. Almost. He matched the door down in half with enough forc
Chapter 18. Sabotage.
Rays of light shone through the several broken window sills across the castle. A man sat on a high fence with a cloak that flowed down about him, he looked to the south, his eyes never faltered as he watched fervently, as though he expected someone of importance.Beneath him lay the dead bodies of the guards who once defended House Vale. He had laid them down out of respect to their duty. His eyes perked up as he saw an entourage approach, he squinted farther and saw about a dozen carriages with horses to pull them all. He sighed inwardly and faded from the fence he sat on. Melting into the shadows and appeared beneath the fence. He walked across the yard where he had laid the bodies, bowing slightly to the fallen soldiers. The Lord had evacuated most of the guards the night he had left, and now he returned in mass with his entire family.Rhok smiled. He walked on until he reached the castle gates and slipped outside. The gates themselves were polished bronze and somewhat painted sil
Chapter 19. True Power.
Sweat trickled down the side of Lord Vale's face, he stood perplexed in fear, standing before him was his commoner bastard son. The only one to whom he had given no training or tutors whatsoever.Yet was able to suppress an experienced aura user while simultaneously using magic at such an advanced level that it left Lord Vale stunned. The room had lost its light, as though the darkness feasted upon the light, instinctively Lord Vale knew that there was nothing he could do to control his bastard son. He was a wild card.Never had he thought that he had birthed such a monster. 'Lisa. If only I hadn't abandoned you and your son, would this still be the case?' he thought to himself as he dropped to his knees.Exhausted and Tired.“Stop …” he whispered. There was an uncommon silence about the room, as though everyone had heard the words of Lord Vale, but no one could quite believe them. And Lord Vale understood why. These fools gathered around him, they didn't understand the threat that h
Chapter 20. Toe to Toe.
The winds blew slightly, carrying the scent of freshly smoked meat into the forest. The scent brought about the presence of wild animals closer to its source. But none seemed bold enough to approach the steaming meat before them. Two humans sat around a made-up hearth, a fragile-looking woman sat on a log of wood while she drew things on the ground, she seemed bored and tired. The other man wore his cloak, his eyes never leaving the forest, and his gaze remained on the animals that approached them slowly. He let out a deathly aura, strong enough to keep the weak animals away from him.Liora threw the piece of wood she had been playing with in the fire, the flames licked at the wood hungrily, raising the flames as it roasted the meat that hung above it.“You're an asshole, you know that right?” Liora's voice exclaimed. She sat up and looked at Rhok square in the face, seemingly not afraid of her captor.“I've been called worse” he responded as he unsheathed his twin daggers, he drove t
