Chapter 11: The Mask Beneath the Law
‘Some battles aren’t fought for honor or survival… but for someone else’s agenda.’ Kai echoed within himself after the system spoke to him. His eyes thinned and he fumed a breath out of his nostrils. Beneath the great marble floors of the Council Chamber was High Councilor Vane who stood alone. His back turned to the circle of enforcers kneeling before him. His robes glimmered and his eyes were lightly showing some aspects of magical power. His fingers interlocked tightly behind him.“If Kate fails,” he whispered coldly, his eyes turned dark, “there is no second failure.” He echoed with a low and thick voice. One of the masked enforcers bowed low. “Do you wish for us to enforce a public detention or do you want us to silently erase her?” The enforcer's voice was brutal.Vane’s voice was ice. “Make it clean and quick. Let it look very… merciful. Do you understand?” He echoed with a hardened heart. ‘I hope she doesn't fail.’ He

"Not all masks hide faces. Some conceal orders more dangerous than death." Kai echoed within himself as he thought about what Kate could have done that would warrant being killed.Kai was aware that he was supposed to eliminate Kate and not the other way round. Kai returned to his dormitory afterwards. He gazed at the ceiling, “Sometimes, the greatest power comes not from resisting the poison, but enduring it.” Kai muttered to himself while he thought about the battle he had with Mulan the next day. ‘I pity her.’ Kai winked his eyes as he thought, owing to the fact that he was going to defeat her. With thought bottling and bothering him, Kai slept off.Kai jotted awake the next morning and he prepared himself for the battle he had that morning. The morning sun hadn’t even reached its peak when the arena began to fill with students, council members, and even enforcers. His heartbeat thudded in his ears slowly and he could only hope to survive the war before him.In a distance from him stood Drake. A tall and composed man with radiating raw power as he fixed his eyes on Kai. He was a warlord-class combatant, but something in his eyes narrowed as he looked at Kai.“You’re not alright,” Drake said with a low voice. “You shouldn’t be here.” He echoed while he watched how weak Kai was.Kai gave a weak smile. “I don’t get to decide that.” He echoed with his heart ready to face Drake.

Chapter 16: Secrets of the Third Degree
Heavy iron doors slammed shut behind Kai after being pushed to the prison by the enforcers, and the clanging of its gate itd frame echoed like war drums in his ear. Kai Draven sighed as he looked around the prison. He had only heard about the third degree cell, ‘What’s so special in this cell that made the academy give it that name?’ As he continued to ask the questions, his eyes fixed into dark and it seemed the cell was deeper than where he was placed.Kai heightened his gaze, ‘This wasn’t just a prison,’ He whispered inaudibly, ‘It is a fortress.’ His eyes widened upon realization. The third-degree cell sprawled like an underground labyrinth. Cracked stone walls lined with ancient runes and each crack pulsed with faded energy. The air inside of the cell seemed a little different - It was thick with forgotten dust. Torch Lights stamped on some towers inside the cell flickered in unison, casting the long shadows of objects within the cell.

Mark’s heart froze on hearing. As he completely processed the information, his head snapped up and his face went pale. “M-My Lord… I’m no match for him. He’ll kill me.” He stuttered in panic and his heart pounded hard against his chest. Vane turned slowly, a lowly smirk curled his lips. “I know. You’re not a match for him. Let me say that you are just the spark. And don’t worry… you won’t die if you follow simple instructions.” His eyes thinned as he picked his words carefully. Swallowing hard with bulged eyes, Mark bowed his head. “I understand.” He was still scared but he just had to pretend as if

Echoes of voices erupted among the gathered council members sitting at the elevated seat. One of them was Councilor Rhis. He stood in protest with his eyes widened in disbelief.“You can’t approve this madness! He’s a student human! That thing is a monster! How can you expect him to battle that?” He frowned at Councilor Vane's decision. Councilor Vane turned slowly. His composed expression laced with venomous calm.“Kai Draven was thrown into the third-degree prison,” he began with a cold tone and resolute voice. “By academy law, he can be challenged by anyone including escaped prisoners. It is not my fault that the gi
