Chapter 1: The Lowest of the Low
“Kai breathes intensely.” The arena’s soil was mixed with Kai’s blood. That pit was deep beneath the Ironspire Academy. It was located beyond the sterilized halls and gilded towers. Failures were sent there as a punishment to fight for entertainment of nobles and elites.
The crowd shouted at the top of their voices. Their faces were a blur of academy students, professors, and nobles, each hiding behind a mask and they were all gathered for tonight’s illegal match. At the center of the pit was Kai Draven. His shirt was torn, lip bleeding and hair clinging to his sweat-streaked face. Around his neck was a glowing red collar. Unbeknownst to Kai that it was a suppression ring that disabled any latent aura or system-activated ability. Kai was at Level 0 which was also known as Trash and Systemless. He was the only student in the entire Ironsphire academy with no combat code or ascension path. Across from him was a fierce opponent who was snickering and flexing his gauntlets. His name is Varyn Calderon and he is at Level 3. Varyn was the proud son of a council lord. Aura glimmered faintly around him which was a visible sign of system activation. “Try not to die too fast, trash,” Varyn grinned, his voice echoed by the arena’s mic enchantments. “I want the others to see how long a roach twitches.” The crowd roared with laughter. Kai didn't respond. He couldn’t. Every breath enthralled out of his nostrils and he was nearing death. His ribs were bruised from yesterday’s public beating. A countdown rune etched itself into the air. [Combat Initiation Countdown: 3... 2... 1] Varyn charged at Kai to finish him off. Kai stood strong by moving on instinct and he doged leftwards, but he was not fast enough. Varyn’s fist slammed into his ribs and slammed against the arena wall. “BAM!” Kai's hit against the wall echoed throughout the arena. He coughed blood and fell to the ground. His eyes went blurry and he was barely able to lift himself. ‘I am going to definitely die.’ Kai admitted to his life ending that moment and the flicker of his miserable life appeared in his vision. He had lost all hope of survival. Maybe the Ironsphire academy wasn't for him afterall. ‘Warning: Vital Signs Critical.’ Kai blinked as he heard that statement in his head. “What?” He echoed, because he couldn't understand what was going on. Kai felt cold sensation that tickled the back of his mind. A voice that was glitchy and fragmented whispered. “Initiating... Ascension Protocol system... syncing... rejected host condition overridden... survival Is a must...” An overwhelming pain went through his skull. The world froze for a moment and the audience blurred. Varyn stood still with his mid-punch clenched, he felt his movement was trapped in some invisible pause. As Kai thought of what could be happening. A holographic interface popped into view. It was cracked and pulsing with red light. “Wow! What is that?” Kai used his last strenght to stretch forth his hand whether he would be able to reach it But he heard a bright echo in his head. ‘SYSTEM UPLOAD COMPLETE Welcome, Kai Draven. Status: Emergency Override Activated. Ascension Protocol: S-Class Detected. Initializing Level 1 – Iron Awakening.’ As Kai finds it difficult to understand the mystery of what was going on, his body convulsed. A flood of immesaurable heat surged through his muscles and knitted his tissues. Kai's heart rate became calm and his mind suddenly focused. Kai was surprised. He knew this was none of his doing. The voice returned, clearer in his head. “You have been discarded and branded as Trash. You have been denied. Let the Tyrant Rise.” ‘What is happening to me?’ Kai was confused and he couldn't even explain what was happening at that moment. Time snapped back into motion. Varyn that appeared to have frozen moved forward with an heavy punch. Kai noticed a new body strength. And this time, he caught Varyn’s next punch. The academic students echoed around the arena with surprise. They had thought that move was just Kai's normal moves that always result in nothing. Kai stared into Varyn's shocked eyes. Varyn tried to get his hand out of Kai's grip. But it became very impossible. ‘How is he this strong all of a sudden?’ Varyn echoed with his heart throbbing really fast. He must not lose to Kai, a level 0 student. He inputted more force, but it was to no avail. Kai squeezed his fist with a fierce gaze and he then drive a fist into Varyn’s gut. Varyn folded as he managed to get some air. His mouth let out thick saliva that was mixed with blood. Kai delivered another punch to his face. And the third to Varyn's chest. The gauntlet cracked. The cheering crowd suddenly went silent. They weren't expecting the outcome that was currently happening. Many had thought that the arena would be the end of Kai. Kai stood strong as Varyn’s knees weakened and he fell to the ground. Kai stood over the collapsed noble with his sweaty face. Kai was panting and his body was trembling but Varyn was conscious. Kai lifted his hand and he gazed at it… ‘Where does this new strength come from?’ it was hard for him to believe. As he thought of what could be happening, a new window blinked in front of him. ‘LEVEL UP: 1 - 2 New Skill Acquired, Iron Fist Technique Tier I AP Gained: +25 Skill Tree Unlocked: Base Combat / Aura Deflection System Node Unlocked: “Echo Memory: Unknown Origin Signature.’ The system echoed in Kai's head. He froze and his eyes thinned out. But in the Ironsphire academy was a man up above. He had been viewing the battle in a private viewing box. A man in violet robes leaned forward with a shock. His name is High Warden Thelor. He is secretly the overseer of the academics surveillance network. He watched with narrowed eyes. “This shouldn’t be possible,” he whispered in disappointment. Back in the pit, Kai raised his head to the crowd, blood still running down his jaw. And he half-smiled.Expand

Ascension Protocol: From Trash to Tyrant Chapter 113: The Test of Blood
The sterile chamber brightened with light. The walls were painted in white, reflecting the cruel glare of overhead lamps that made the space feel more like an execution hall than a medical facility. Beyond the glass observation panel, rows of academy students pressed forward. Their faces were painted with hunger for spectacle. Some of them wanted blood and others wanted humiliation. All of them wanted to see who would rise and who would break.Kai and Finn were led into the room together. Iron chairs were very cold as they sat down. Their arms were strapped down to steel rests as if they were prisoners. The nurse wheeled forward the twin iron stands, each fitted with empty red bags and serpentine tubes that glistened under the light. The needles at their tips glowed like the fangs of predators waiting to bite.Kai’s eyes slid sideways to Finn. The other boy’s jaw was already tight with his shoulders shifting uneasily. He tapped his fingers against the steel armrest, fidgeting like a

Ascension Protocol: From Trash to Tyrant Chapter 112: Blood and Rumors
The barracks had always been alive with whispers, but tonight the air was thick with something sharper. Words weren’t just drifting idly anymore, they were cutting, carrying edges honed by a deep malice.Rumors spread like wildfire in tight quarters, but this particular blaze had a single hand feeding it fuel and the source is, Finn Torrek.“Did you hear?” a recruit muttered at the wash station. His voice pitched low but sharp enough to catch eager ears.“They say Kai faints at the sight of blood.”“No way.” Another snorted. “Torrek swore he saw him pale as chalk during drills. Can you imagine? Owner of Ironsphire Academy, collapsing like a scared child the moment he sees red?”“Guess he’s nothing more than a walking liability.”The words traveled fast. Like cracks spiderwebbing across glass, they spread from bunk to bunk, corner to corner, mouths eager for scandal and hearts thrilled by the thought of their shining recruit stumbling.Kai sat silently on his bunk. His hands were stead

Ascension Protocol: From Trash to Tyrant Chapter 111: Mud and Honor
The mud squelched under Kai’s boots as he bent down, his hand gripped the drenched, filthy fabric of his uniform. His knuckles whitened, not from the cold but from the sheer restraint it took to keep his anger contained. A sharp, jeering laughter echoed around him like the snapping of whips against his pride.Ronan Pike! The tall, smug, and dressed man in immaculate fatigues that still smelled of polished quarters and privilege. He stood with his arms crossed. His grin was wide enough to split his face in half.“Pathetic,” Ronan sneered. His voice was carried across the training yard. “The great Ironsphire top grader is reduced to a laundry boy. Don’t worry, Kai, latrine duty builds character. You might even get promoted to bucket-scrubber if you are lucky.”The recruits around them roared with laughter. Some elbowed one another while others pointed at Kai like children witnessing a circus act. Kai stood in silence, holding the ruined uniform while mud dripped onto the dirt below.Ins

Ascension Protocol: From Trash to Tyrant Chapter 110: The Ration Thief
The mess hall at Vanguard Base was always loud at midday. Noises of cutlery clinking against tin trays, boots scuffing against the concrete floor and the faint scent of overcooked stew lingering under the tang of the air. Kai preferred to eat in silence so that his mind could filter out the noise. But today, Kai felt something was different. When he reached his usual table, Kai noticed the bread roll on his tray missing. He didn't misplace it. It just vanished. He scanned the room, eyes narrowing through the corners. The food here wasn't much to begin with. Two slices of processed meat, a ladle of stew, one bread roll, and a cup of vitamin-fortified water. Losing even one item wasn’t a joke. For most recruits, it was just enough to keep their bodies running through the brutal training days.A few tables away, Jax Renner leaned back in his seat, his laugh was loud and sharp like the scrape of a blade against a metal. The tall, lean brawler had a reputation for petty cruelty especia

Ascension Protocol: From Trash to Tyrant Chapter 109: Chains of Reckoning
The next day, the Vanguard Base parade grounds were filled with bright energy. The clatter of boots against concrete, the smell of sweat baking in the morning sun, and the barked orders of drill sergeants all merged into a kind of rhythmic movement.Kai walked through the crowd without a word. His expression was unreadable, but inside his mind, the memory of Derrick Holt’s smirk replayed like a thorn tearing at his patience. “Dust badge,” Derrick had called him. The insult wasn’t new. Kai had heard it before from Ironsphire Academy’s elitist brats but hearing it here, in the Vanguard, felt like an open challenge. This wasn’t an academy anymore. This was the proving ground where the strong rose, and the weak were eaten alive.Derrick was already in the center of the endurance yard. His broad shoulders cast a smug shadow over the racks of weighted chains. His voice carried across the grounds like a challenge to everyone present.“Two hours,” Derrick bragged loudly to the gathered recru

Ascension Protocol: From Trash to Tyrant Chapter 108: Dust Badge
The Vanguard Base wasn’t quiet after Henry Voss’s crushing defeat. Soldiers talked about it in almost every corner; including the barracks, and training grounds. Some soldiers glanced at him with newfound respect. Others… with envy. And then there were the predators, the ones who saw him not as a comrade, but as a fresh challenge to destroy.Derrick Holt was one of them.He was an endurance specialist with a young body built like a siege engine, Derrick had a reputation for breaking rookies in the weighted chain trials. The man’s stamina was legendary; he could run drills under brutal conditions for hours without so much as a bead of sweat. He ruled the endurance ranks with an iron fist and a booming laugh that made weaker recruits shrink back. And now, Kai’s rise had put him in Derrick’s crosshairs. It started in the mess hall. Kai had just finished eating his food and he was heading toward the exit when Derrick’s voice cut through the clatter of trays and utensils.“Well, if it isn'
