				CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

Serex was outside his boss’s office waiting for him to come out. As he stood, his thoughts turned to the recent news reports about the HaleTech company. That news had come as a shock and surprise to him. He was aware that his boss was responsible for the rival company's demise, but he never imagined it would be possible. He was quick-witted and had begun suspecting that something was wrong with his boss. There was something strange about him; was it the way he threw him at the stair rail that night, or the way he caught him during his fall down the stairs? He could have sworn no one could have caught him in two seconds, but his boss had! That was unimaginable and beyond comprehension.  But still, he could not lay a hand on the strangeness, even though his curiosity was eating him up. However, one thing was certain. He would find out. He would always find out. That was
				CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

Veyra got up early enough to pack a few things for her visit. At first, she was having a strange feeling but she ended up shoving it away for the time being. At the very least, she was granted permission to see her brother, which she had always requested. Working with Lazik is one of a kind; she was not allowed to make emotional connections with anyone by visiting, including her own brother, but surprisingly, Lazik had agreed to it by letting her go.. When she first started working with him, he had told her that if she just followed his orders, everything would go her way. Veyra had obeyed him by doing what he asked of her even if it meant going against her own directives. It was difficult and contradicted her conscience, but she had to do it.  Now she wondered if she still had a bit of conscience in her. Or was it totally destroyed? Kyle, a twelve year old boy, the only fam
				CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

Serex watched as his boss proceeded from his office. He followed behind, treading lightly. His boss’s face held no expression, but Serex had hoped the man would tell him all that had transpired. However, it was none of his concern. Whatever happened between them was meant for them alone. Then he wondered if they had actually fought as he recalled seeing Mr. Elias dusting his clothes with an angry look written all over his face.He immediately dismissed that thought; his boss was not like that. He was sure Jace was skilled in business, but fight? He could not tell.“Get the vehicle and take me to the usual bar.” Jace told Serex as he entered the elevator. Without thinking, the assistant dashed to the stairs and rushed down to the last floor, where the garage was located, just in time for his boss to arrive.A few minutes later, the duo was driving down the streets to the bar house where Jace usually spends his time. When Jace arrived at the building, he was given a VIP room fit for b

“I just need to get my hands on that man called Jace, I just need to grapple his neck and make him suffer for bringing me down to this stage.” Elias said under his breath as he slammed the vehicle door and stormed inside.“I must have underestimated him so much that he has the nerve to look down on me.” he added as he slammed his bag on the couch and dragged the tie from his neck. Vira heard the noise and walked out of the room, puzzled as to why he was making such a fuss. She was certain that something bad had happened, but she did not care. She never did. All she needed was his money, and they were good to go.On seeing his wife headed towards his direction, he gave her an angry stare before grabbing his bag and walking to the same room she came out of.Vira was surprised at seeing this. She was expecting him to say something and not snub her that way. Has the matter gotten worse? she asked herself. It can't be. No way! she exclaimed in her mind.“Did he lose his job?” she asked a

CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE “Any update on your findings?” Vira inquired as she took her seat in the VIP room, their usual private meeting location. Her conversation with her husband had not yielded any results, and their relationship was only getting worse, but before she could continue down that path, she realized she needed to do some things for herself. Like finding the truth about his ex's rise to success. Mr. Alan sat opposite her as usual, bringing out a documented file and placing it on the table in front of her. “I told you I would do my job properly. I have gotten a few updates on him, but it still looks strange,” the man said, watching Vira open the file. “How so?” Vira inquired as she inspected the contents. When she held a particular picture, he stretched his neck to take a glimpse, “I got that picture from some

Serex was completely exhausted when he arrived home. He slumped into the chair in his living room and heaved a sigh of relief. The house was quiet, so peaceful but no matter how calming it seemed, something still bothered him. His brother. He let out another sigh, this time, it was painful. Then he stood up and began walking towards the room he shared with his brother. He held the handle and gently opened it, peering inside the dimly lit room. His brother was inside, laying on the bed with his eyes closed. Serex closed it gently and walked towards the bed. He sat on the chair beside it and watched the young boy closely. The disease seemed to be eating him up, Serex observed him and noticed he was losing weight. All hopes to get him treated were gradually lowered. He had no means of ever getting money that could sustain him throughout the time of his treatment. Then he thought of his boss and scoffed. It was beyond his comprehension that Jace would ever consider himself involving his
				CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN

The ride to work was quiet. Jace was absorbed in the view outside the vehicle as he was thinking about the pop up notification he had seen earlier. He can not believe he had been so preoccupied with accumulating wealth that he forgot to consider the central system of his life. He had been granted the power to become rich, to fight and to become the greatest but his recent focus had been on riches and nothing else. Just as he was about closing his eyes, the notification showed again. |[Your vitals are running low. Engage in a quest to upgrade the system.]|[Accept] [Reject] Jace let out a sigh and closed his eyes. He would think about it later, but for now, he needed to get to work. *** “What do you mean by “everything is crashing”?” Mrs. Quen asked her daughter as she sat be

After a long day at work, Jace was finally glad to be going home. He scrolled through his phone as he was driven home by Serex. The media had been quiet for days, with nothing new to report other than HaleTech's struggle to stabilize the company.Elias was nowhere to be seen in front of cameras and even his wife, Vira had taken some time off from the public.Jace smirked. He had accomplished some things but he wasn't done yet. As the vehicle swerved towards his building, Jace heaved a sigh of relief. His home was more of a respite from work, a tranquil place to unwind. He got down and began walking towards the building, with Serex following behind. Jace turned his head slightly but said nothing when he saw the young man. That was his normal routine, to make sure his boss was settled before leaving. When they arrived at the penthouse, Serex opened the door so his boss could enter. On stepping his foot into the house, Jace immediately knew something was wrong.“Stop. Do not take anoth
				CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE

“How dare you?!” Vira yelled as soon as she entered the room. The room was different from where they usually met, but their meeting was the same; only this time, her life and career were in danger. Mr. Alan rolled his eyes. “Do you really want to start by shouting?” “How dare you manipulate me?” she yelled again, “do you think I have no means of fighting back?” The reporter let out a laugh. This irritated Vira, but she overlooked it. “What do you want? Spill it.” “You know what I want, Vira dear.” Vira rolled her eyes. His demeanor only irritated her more. When she did not respond, he continued, “You should know by now that I am in charge here; given that I work with a wide range of media, these images could cause a lot of damage to you.” Vira clenched her jaws. She was trying to keep herself from overreacting. “All it takes is a click from me and then–boom! The whole world will see the kind of woman you are.” Mr. Alan said and let out a chuckle. “I should have known bett

Vira was wrapped in blankets as she lay in bed, her gaze fixed on the reporter's next move. When she saw him getting out of bed, she pretended to be asleep.Mr. Alan walked towards his clothes, which were on the ground, and picked them up before going to the bathroom.Vira observed closely, waiting for him to leave the room. When he was gone into the bathroom, Vira sat up.The sound of pouring water made her get up from the bed. She tiptoed from her side of the bed to the opposite side. She noticed Alan's wallet and phone, both of which were on a small table nearby. On seeing them, she let out a sly smile and gently walked towards the small table. The sounds of pouring water persisted, giving her the opportunity to continue with her secret mission. When she got hold of the cellphone, she unlocked it with a single swipe. Without waiting, she went straight to his gallery and began to search for the pictures. Her heart rate quickened as she scrolled through her phone. She would glance at
