chapter eleven
Kael didn’t look back. He knew better now and he was slowly beginning to see the world for what it is. He was slowly moving on from people who wanted him to fall, people who hated him. That part of his life, the part that begged for scraps and apologies from people who saw him as less, was over. And yet… every footstep forward came with a whisper in his head.“You must always act in line with justice…”Kael gritted his teeth. “Then let justice come to those who deserve it.” He walked for blocks, scanning the streets, watching people with a different lens now—people who weren’t seen. The system didn’t just ask for strength. It demanded purpose. The second recruit came unexpectedly. A boy—no older than sixteen—was squatting behind a mechanic shop, wrapping bloody knuckles in a dirty rag. He had a split lip, swollen eye, and the stubborn look of someone who had fought too many times to lose hope now. Kael crouched beside him. “You fight for money?” The boy flinched, then looked K

The system time was visibly seen on the corner of Kael's phone. He knew what he had to do by now. He needed to get the last man to complete the mission the system had given to him. As the rain beat against his windshield, Kael looked at his phone; the countdownwas there. He knew it was either he took charge of his life or let it slip away. One thing was certain: Kael was not ready to go back to his old life. Living off scraps and being called different names. Kael is tired of it. Kael’s feet hurt, and his eyelids were heavy from lack of sleep, but he didn’t stop. Four recruits. One more to go. The system was silent now, watching, calculating. Thirty-seven hours. He walked through the rain-soaked city, the moonlight reflecting off broken glass and puddles in forgotten alleys. The world looked different from this side. It wasn’t about glory. It wasn’t about revenge anymore. It was about building something that lasted—even if no one else saw it coming.Kael was not only ready to hav

There is a way you are being looked at when people think you cannot afford them. You are being treated like a scumbag, like garbage but all of that changes when they notice that you are no longer the same poor boy they order around anymore. Kael looked at his phone and he wasn't sure if he was dreaming or was hallucinating. Everything felt so unreal. Like it was some movie and he was only the main character. Kael still couldn't believe if he could have a company of his own even if he had worked his ass off for thirty good years. This can't be real. It can't be happening. That was the same word be kept repeating and telling himself as he grabbed his phone looking at the money that just dropped into his account. A gentle smile appeared on his lips yet again. Kael had just completed the mission. Gathered men that was going to help him oversee the company that he was not even sure of what he was going to make of it. It would have been nice if the system had given him a cl

Kael's eyes darted back and forth, staring at the three most notorious individuals in the school. He knew what he had to do, but the fear of letting them loose scared the shit out of him. It was more like he was letting loose a walking time bomb inside the school premises. The thought of him being the one to unleash them scared the hell out of him, but yet, he needed their service. Kael’s brow furrowed slightly as he took in Gage’s words. “Get you out of this wing?” He repeated slowly, as though he needed to be sure he’d heard right. Leon chuckled bitterly, leaning his shoulder against the wall. “You think this is just some hangout for tough kids? Nah, rich boy. We were kept here because the school authorities are scared of us." He gulped down the thick saliva at the back of his throat, and the hair at the back of his neck stood up. "I need your help." Kael managed to speak the words out of his mouth. "You need our help? With what?" Viper asked, walking closer.

The senior’s eyes were cold, his tone clipped as he shoved the letter into Kael's chest. “Kael. Headmaster’s office. Now.” His fingers trembled slightly as he took the folded paper. Behind him, Kael could feel the three predators he just unleashed—Leon, Viper, and Gage—watching with sharp, hungry eyes. Leon leaned in, his breath hot against his ear. “Guess you won’t need us to walk you there. But don’t forget our deal.” “Half in three days,” Viper added with a twisted grin. “Tick, tock.” Kael forced himself to nod, slipping the letter into his pocket. “You’ll get it.” They laughed, not because they believed him, but because they knew he had no other choice. No one has ever thought of going to that side of the school. At least not someone who had a use for his life. Everyone knew better, but it looks like Kael was not thinking straight. He knew his money couldn't protect him, but this trio might. The senior who had delivered the summons raised an eyebrow at the exchange but s

The Dean leaned back in his chair, the leather groaning beneath his weight. His fingers tapped a slow rhythm against the mahogany desk, each beat drilling deeper into Kael’s nerves.“How much?” he repeated with a mocking drawl, like a predator toying with prey. “That depends. Protection against Jason is one thing. Stripping him of power, taking his throne, making the entire student body spit at the sound of his name—that is something else entirely.”Kael’s jaw tightened. “I asked you for the price. Didn't I?" The Dean’s eyes gleamed, sharp and dangerous. “Money, Kael, is only part of the equation. Influence requires more. Blood, sweat, and the willingness to destroy everything that stands in your way.” He leaned forward, lowering his voice. “Are you willing?”Kael was not sure what the Dean was getting at but he was ready to do anything in as long hmjt would help him keep Jason right under him. Kael’s stomach twisted, but he forced himself to nod. “Yes.”The Dean chuckled, a deep s

"I see you." Maya said, twisting one of her hair braids. "You are the name on everyone's tongue." "I am?" Kael said, staring at her face in disbelief. Well, he had done what none of the rich kids could. Freed the most notorious boys in the east wing. "Do you think you can have them under your control?" Maya said immediately, making eye contact with me. "When you say who, you mean Viper, Leon, and Gage. Right?" Kael said, slightly dipping his hands into his pocket. "Yes. You set them free. Why?" Kael looked at her and still didn't understand what a girl like Maya was doing with someone like him. "What do you mean, why?" he asked with his eyebrows arched; his lips twitched slightly. Maya shrugged her shoulders. "You should know by now that they are dangerous. They are not only dangerous, but they all come from a family that is quite notorious." Her words scared Kale a bit. "Do I scare you?" she asked, noticing the look he had on his face. "No, not really. "But Jason does," he

The cafeteria was silent. Every student gaze bored into the two in anticipation for what was going to happen next. Kael stopped right in front of Jason, his tray still in his hands. The air grew stiff, and the cafeteria went silent like everyone was waiting for a bomb to go off. Phones were still out, cameras flashing, recording every movement. Jason stood tall, his grin widening as if he had just trapped a rat.Kael tilted his head slightly, his lips twitching into a half-smile. “Really? Since when do chairs come with ownership tags, Jason?”Jason’s laughter echoed across the cafeteria. “Since I said so. That seat is mine, and everyone knows it.” He stepped closer, lowering his voice but making sure everyone could hear. “You’re not sitting next to Maya. Not today, not ever. Got it?”Gasps rippled through the students. Some whispered Jason’s words under their breath, as if repeating them gave the threat more weight." Do you think Kael is going to listen to him?" " He is scared o

Taking a bold step was actually all it took for Kael. Maya was not only the most sought-after girl on campus, but she also had this magnetic pull that could attract any guy that she wanted. And Kael was not going to be attracted to her. He was going to make her want him. Beg him for every touch and every kiss. As Kael sat down by Maya, the cafeteria went silent. It feels like they all were waiting for them to talk. To say a single word, anything actually. But instead, Kael said nothing except for his cutlery banging the plate each time he tried to pick up his steak meat. [ AFTER A WHILE ]Maya looked at him. "You do know they are waiting for us to say something." Kael dropped the fork and stared at Maya; he grabbed the white napkin and cleaned his mouth. A gentle smile was plastered on his face as he grabbed a cup of water. Maya laughed. She had never given anyone as much attention as she had given to Kael. She waited for him, making sure he dropped the glass cup he was holding

Maya stared at him, her lips parting as if she wanted to speak but words refused to come. For the first time, she wasn’t sure if she was the one in control of the game anymore. Kael had just flipped the board without even lifting a finger.“Everything can be bought?” she finally repeated, her voice a dangerous whisper. “You make it sound like people have no value beyond money.”Kael looked back and forth as if he was trying to measure everything and everyone in the cafeteria. He rested back into his sit and looked at her face. " Tell me one thing." he said slowly tapping his fingers on the polished table. " Look around you and tell me what you see." Maya's lips pouted, she definetly wasn't expecting Kael to be a strong opponent. " What do you mean?" She asked crossing her arms and slightly resting back on her chair. " When you look around you, the system, the educators even the students. What do you see?" Maya shrugged, " A school. A learning centre." " No. You are wrong. You a
