Chapter 1: Nightmares
Lucas sat in the living room playing with his chewed-out toy trucks and a smile on his face. He could hear his mother’s angelic voice singing to him while she bent down and scrubbed the mansion floor with a small brush. It was quiet and times like these were rare but like always, when they had some semblance of peace, the man who called himself Lucas’s father would barge in and destroy it.The doors flew open, making a banging sound as they came in contact with the wall. Lucas and his mother flinched at the sound, sure that another beating would follow. Like clockwork, he dropped his toys and rushed over to his mother, who grabbed him and wrapped her arms around him, shielding him from this monster of a man. She waved her hand over the water on the floor and like a scene out of Avatar, the water rose up and entered the bucket next to her, cleaning up the mess.Lucas’s father, Mark Graham, one of the wealthiest men in the world, walked into the room with a sneer on his face and a woma
Chapter 2: Surprises
The next day came by much quicker than Lucas had expected. He wasn’t sure whether it was because he had woken up a bit earlier due to his constant nightmares or the fact that he couldn’t sleep again from the sheer excitement of the impending proposal. He got up from his bed as soon as the sun’s rays filtered in through his windows, put his long hair in a ponytail, and went to his mother’s room. Normally, she was the one who woke Lucas up even before his alarm did but today was a special day. He didn’t have time to waste. He rapped his knuckles on her door to try and wake her up. “What?” Her voice echoed through the door, giving him the permission to go in. Lucas turned the handle and opened the door before poking his head through the gap and smiling at what he saw. His mother, although fifty years of age, was the epitome of beauty. Long brown locks paired with honey-colored eyes and a petite face. She yawned as she sat up straight, her hair a bird’s nest.“Why are you waking me up?
Chapter 3: Realizing Betrayal
“Sit back down and die, worm.” Nicole’s words echoed in Lucas’s head.“What?” he managed to ask through the splitting pain in his head.“You heard me,” she said, her face devoid of any emotion. Lucas furrowed his brows, confused as to what was going on. The woman whom he had just proposed to, the woman whom he had promised the rest of his life to, had just told him to die. No, this can’t be right, Lucas thought to himself.Another sharp pain ran through his body and he screamed out in agony. His mother’s hands gripped his body in a bid to soothe his pain. “Nicole, what’s the meaning of this?” Marrisa asked.“Oh, shut up, hag. I’ve never liked you and tonight is the night I get rid of you and your sickly sweet son,” Nicole replied, her eyes menacing but true to her words.“Stop this, please,” Lucas heard his mother beg. She was probably confused but seeing the same changes he saw in his fiancee.“Restrain her,” Nicole ordered the men behind her who wasted no time in doing what they
Chapter 4: A Path to Revenge
Lucas entered the morgue a damaged but somewhat clothed man ever since he woke up in the hospital room. The nurse led him towards the slab under the bright lights in the middle of the room. The same slab that had a covered dead body under it and somehow made the room of death seem even more daunting. Lucas winced at the slight pain he felt from his surgery stitches but he still pressed on. If the body under there was who he thought it was, then he had no time to stop. He needed to see her.*****Lucas made his way back to his home in town without anyone knowing. It was not like he was avoiding thanking the villagers for what they did for him and his mum. It was just that Lucas didn’t want any of them to know that he had been released from the hospital or, better yet, that he was still alive. He trusted them but Emilia or even Nicole might have someone in the town watching out for him and Lucas couldn’t have them coming after him when he was still in rough shape. He slunk back into hi
Chapter 5: Trojan Horse
Three months later and an entire personality and physical change, Lucas was ready to go back for revenge. Hell, he was already in the same city as his old family, only a few streets away from them to give him a fair vantage point. In his time of waiting he had seen an ad by the Graham's, looking for some men to joing their security team. The security team would be with the Graham's for the most part and would be given quarters in the mansion. A tense thought but an opportunity that Lucas didn't hesitate to jump at to move to the next step of his plan. It took about a week for Lucas to actually get called back on the basis that he wanted to apply for the job with Graham's and another three days after filling out forms, submitting identifications, and undergoing a rigorous test to ascertain if he was fit for the job. On the other hand, Nicole was nowhere to be found in New York. Lucas had hired a private investigator to find her, but she hadn't turned up anywhere. It was like she disap
Chapter 6: A Rollercoaster of Emotions
Soon enough, Lucas followed close behind Tobias as he showed him around the mansion, not that it mattered since Lucas already knew this house inside out. After all, it was his once upon a lifetime. The tour was over within an hour, as Tobias obviously didn’t show him every inch of the house. Just the parts he would be allowed to enter since he now worked for the family.“So, tell me, where did you learn how to do that?” Tobias asked Lucas as they walked out of the mansion and towards the cars lined up in front of the house. Lucas shrugged to show that it was no big deal, but his mind was racing to come up with an answer. Well, an answer that wouldn’t be too far off from what he wrote down in his application. It was one thing to lie, and then it was another to go completely off script.“I used to train a lot with my mother. Well, not training per se. She used to teach me how to use my gift and my father taught me how to refine them in case I got into trouble at school.” He somewhat li
Chapter 7: The Art of Seduction
The next day had come by quickly and by the time Grace had called Lucas’ room to tell him that someone was downstairs waiting for him, he was ready. Lucas grabbed his bags and headed downstairs, ready to start his new day in the same house he was mistreated in. “Damien Knox?” The man downstairs asked Lucas as he reached the lobby.“Yes. Did Mr. Tobias send you?” Lucas asked, eyeing the man up and down. “He did. Come with me.”Lucas waved to Grace for the last time before following the man outside and getting into the car that was waiting for them outside the building. As per the man’s request, Lucas sat in the back seat of the car.“There's bottled water and complimentary drinks in there if you want any. Courtesy of Mr. Graham.” The driver piped up, causing Lucas’ attention to turn towards the little snack box that sat in the middle of the SUV. He took one of the bottles, opened the cap and drank some water, feeling a bit refreshed after he did.The car moved on, weaving through the
Chapter 8: Introductions
It took Lucas a whole two hours to find out where he was and find his way back to the mansion where he was now meant to live at due to his job, especially when the driver who took him to see Emilia was nowhere to be found when he was actually needed. Emilia was probably the one behind it but with the driver MIA, Lucas was left alone to find his own way.Lucas huffed and placed his hands on his waist after he got down from the cab that brought him to the gates of the Graham mansion. He had trekked for the most part since the house he was taken to was hidden behind trees, but soon enough, he was able to get a cab to bring him to his destination. Lucas stared at the gate, memories flooding his mind, but he didn’t let them linger as he had a job to do. A job to bring the Graham’s down.“You again.” Lucas heard a familiar voice that called his attention. He turned to the security post and frowned when his eyes landed on the man. The security guard from the first time Lucas came to the man
Chapter 9: The Test
Lunch in the mess hall was nothing new. Sure, Lucas spent an hour around his new roommates, getting to know them and their mannerisms, but it wasn’t so different from the family dinners he had with his mother and some friends from his former town. Jack, Sam and Henry were louder than Lucas would have liked, but surprisingly, they had gotten along really well. So much so that the group had welcomed him in with open arms. Unfortunately, Lucas was not there to make friends. He had a goal. A goal that he couldn’t allow any for of relationship ruin. Although he didn’t read too much into the newly formed friendship, he did think that it was a good cover for future purposes. Just in case he got into a bind sometime. There was one thing that bothered Lucas though. The last man, Gregory Hanson. He kept to himself ever since he came into the house. Also, there was this little case of him not seeing his father ever since he had come around the house. It was probably nothing, but Lucas wanted to
Chapter 10: Questions
The day had gone on with Lucas shadowing Tobias all around the mansion with nothing more to do than to watch him go about with his business. A chore which was tiring in itself, not so much as him having to be around his proposed mother’s murderer. Soon enough, the day ended and Lucas was relieved from his duties once Tobias wanted to go to bed. Lucas walked back to his quarters feeling his body ache as he moved. He expected that the job would be a bit hard, but he didn’t expect that he would be standing in a single spot for hours on end. Still, it was a small price to pay for revenge. That was what Lucas told himself as he walked through the hallways covered with doors. For some weird reason, the staff who usually flitted around the mansion going about their work were nowhere to be found. Lucas checked his watch and frowned. It was still a bit early. Not too late for the occupants of the house to go to bed and not too early for the workers to be done with their chores. It was unnerv
