Chapter 11: Luck
Lucas’ feet carried him through the hallways of the company slowly, making it seem to anyone who was watching that he was trying to locate the lounge room that Tobias had mentioned earlier. He walked around, his eyes casually checking out the wall for any signs of security cameras just so that he could be very careful.Lucas stopped when he noticed that there were no cameras in any of the hallways he had passed. Were they really that confident that nothing bad would ever happen that they chose not to put any cameras up? It was weird, Lucas had to admit it but for some reason, he knew that with this family, there was more than met the eye. In the end, Lucas decided that after he looked around for some time, he would locate the security room, if they had one, and try to delete the footage of him snooping around if he could. Lucas had no idea where any of the rooms were, especially since he hadn’t been in the building before, but luckily for him, whoever designed the building was a stic
Chapter 12: Meeting Nicole
It didn’t take up to thirty minutes for Lennon to send everything that he had found out about Nicole to Lucas’ phone. By that time, Lucas was already in a cab heading to the first location that Lennon had given him. A cafe that stood in the middle of the city. The cab came to a halt outside the building of the Cookies and Cream cafe. Lucas paid the driver immediately and got out of the car, wasting no time in going into the cafe to search for Nicole. He didn’t have to try that hard because, as soon as he walked into the building, Nicole came into his field of vision. She wore a red dress and platform heels. Her blonde hair was pinned up in an up do as her black diamond earrings dangled from her ears. Nicole held a cup to her lips and took a sip of whatever drink she was having before turning back to her phone. She looked like a million dollars.Lucas scoffed at the sight of her. Firstly, seeing her brought back a lot of memories, most of them that Lucas would rather want to forget, b
Chapter 13: Nightcap
“Stop the car.” Lucas said to the driver, already seeing his new plan being put into motion. He would give Nicole a taste of her own medicine.“Uh, sir, are you sure? This isn’t a nice part of town.” The driver asked, trying to convince Lucas with a frown on his face.“I doubt they could do anything,” Lucas mentioned as he placed his hand in his pocket to grab some money.“They might have measly gifts, but do not underestimate them. They’re dangerous.” The driver warned Lucas with a cautious gaze. “I’ll pay you double if you stop this car.” Lucas offered, pushing the money in the man’s face, looking at him through the rear-view mirror. He could see the driver huff at the offer but give in at the end. The man pulled over hesitantly. Lucas handed him the twenty dollar bill and got out of the car, looking around the neighborhood as the cab pulled out and drove off quickly. “You lost?” Lucas heard a thick voice from behind him. He turned around to see an African American man, nearing hi
Chapter 14: Bad Karma
It didn’t take long for Lucas to be dropped off by cab at a familiar place. The place where he was going to reveal his surprise to someone. Once he paid the cab fee, the car drove off quickly into the night, leaving Lucas on the familiar street next to the cafe where he found Nicole. On the same street where he met those four men. The street was even worse in the night. Bonfires scattered around the now seemingly abandoned street, drugs being sold and lonely women roaming the streets for some new prey to snatch.“Ugh.” A voice reached Lucas' ears. He turned around just in time to see a pregnant woman who was clearly a vagrant, shooting up some clear liquid into her veins. Her head went back and she sighed before her body went limp and she slid to the ground. As soon as she did, some others rounded her body and looted her for whatever she might have had on her. Lucas frowned and turned away. Inadvertently, these were the ways that the none or some one gifted people lived their lives d
Chapter 15: Deal
“I’m alive and best believe that, as of tonight, your days are numbered. You will never leave this room. I will kill you, Nicole Waterson.” Lucas told her, his voice laced with venom but also the truth. Nicole whimpered for a moment as she watched his eyes, but it didn’t last long before her bad side came out, and she wanted to make a deal to get out of her punishment. With her leg, Nicole pushed Lucas off her chair, wanting some air since him being too close to her was suffocating. “So, what do you want? Because if you did want me dead you would have done it by now.” Nicole asked him, already knowing the answer to that question but trying to draw out her sentence even longer. She needed to find a way to get out of her situation and if that meant telling Lucas whatever he needed to hear, then she was going to do it. “What if I wanted to just torture you before I went ahead to kill you?” Lucas poked at her with a small evil smile, not bothered that she kicked him away because the lo
Chapter 16: Abused
It didn’t take Lucas long to arrive back at the Graham mansion with no one the wiser. Tobias hadn’t searched for him while he was away and, as far as Lucas knew, he wasn’t being followed either. Emilia hadn’t even budged since he was away, so he assumed that she either didn’t know or she just didn’t care, but Lucas’ roommates were another case. Since he didn’t come back until later that night, they were a bit on edge or more like they had questions about when they saw him again. Questions that they didn’t even bother sugarcoating when Lucas walked in through those doors with his suit jacket in his hands.“Dude, where have you been?” “Did you get shot?”“Were you fired?” Jack, Sam and Henry fired at the same time, making Lucas blink and pause for a moment to take it all in. The three men all sat on his bed with curious looks on their faces, their former concern turning into enthusiasm for any secret Lucas might have been hiding, since he still looked put together. “So?” Jack prodded
Chapter 17: Sleepless Nights
It had been only some days since Lucas and Gregory had arrived at the Graham mansion, and with what Gregory had told him about what Emilia was doing to him, it really was hell on earth for the man. It took Gregory almost an hour of reliving his abusive days with that woman and intermittent crying before he ended with a sniffle and somehow retreated back into his shell. Lucas’ hands were still on him as a form of comfort to the man. Lucas finally understood why the man was always quiet and distant from the group in their room. He wasn’t uptight and snobbish. The man had been silently fighting a losing battle and the raging emotions within him all because a woman who could literally have anything she wanted couldn’t keep it in her pants for someone who was already taken. She had used her power and status to force this man to do what he didn’t want to. It was a situation that most people wouldn’t want to believe, but it was true, and it was ever present in society. Gregory was constant
Chapter 18: The Vague Meeting
The car drove past the company building in one swift move, causing Lucas to turn back in confusion. Wasn’t the meeting going to be held at the company? He faced forward, putting his eyes on the road while the car went on, wondering where they might be going, especially when they weren’t being escorted by a convoy. The silence went on in the car, but after ten more minutes of driving through the busy streets, they came to a stop at a high rise building with the acronym D.C.C near its roof. Lucas got out of the car and held the door open for Tobias to come out while his eyes were still glued to the massive building. He cocked his head at the building, knowing that it seemed vaguely familiar to him. Tobias stepped out of the car and Lucas shut the door behind him, facing the building completely in awe as he followed Tobias’ lead and entered the building, his gaze wary of anything that may have been out of the ordinary. They walked past the big glass double doors of the company building
Chapter 19: Talk
The car went back to the Graham company without wasting any time and immediately Lucas and Tobias got out of the car, they headed inside to continue the day. Like the day before, Lucas had searched around the company, sneaking into rooms and eavesdropping on private conversations to see if there was any new thing that he would find, but unfortunately for him all he heard was trivial office gossip and the random declaration of love some of the women had towards Tobias. It was disgusting and embarrassing to say the least, but he didn’t let it bring his hope down. Through all the hullabaloo of moving around the office in his somewhat free time, Lucas wasn’t able to find out any more damning information on Tobias and his mother or the company. Even when he went back to the archive room, Lucas was not successful in revealing any secrets. With a sigh, he left the room and headed back to the lounge room where some of the employees of the company sat down and mingled with one another. Lucas
Chapter 20: A Step Further
“Start from the beginning.” Lucas spoke out, prompting Nicole to begin her story.“You already vaguely know that Emilia Lockhart and her son sent me to get rid of you. What you don’t know is why.” Nicole started, eyeing Lucas to get a reaction out of him. Lucas stared her down, not budging from wanting to find out what she meant by all that.“The first time Emilia approached me for the job, I was working as a waitress at Moonbucks. She didn’t come to meet me personally, but she did send someone. I remember waiting at a table with a single person there. A woman with dark brown hair and bright blue eyes. She complimented me on my beauty and told me that I looked like a runway model. She also told me if I was looking for some extra cash, then she would have a job for me. In the past, several men and women have come up to me offering me model gigs and whatnot, so I didn’t think it was out of the ordinary for her to offer me a job even though we had just met. After I served her, she left,
