Chapter 11: At the Rothwell's house
"Moreover, like Dave said," She continued, her voice citrusy and concerning, "Dr. Leo should be left to handle her treatment. We also care about Naomi as much as you do so we can't practically stay put and watch you make a decision that would hurt her even more." Her voice was smooth, like she was really caring for her step-daughter. The way she said every word was too smooth for a lie like she had rehearsal every line several times behind the door. Carl was observing everything without speaking. This woman definitely has a secret, but it was none of his business. He wasn't in the place to meddle in the family's business. He shouldn't have even come here in the first place, but because he had promised the tech mogul. And a man like him doesn't break his promises. "Mr. Rothwell if your family is paranoid about my presence here, I'd like to take my leave now." He said calmly and turned to walk away. Mr. Rothwell dashed to his front and crumbled to his knee sharply, blocking Carl's p
Chapter 12: What is Martha's plan?
Martha stepped into the quiet corner of the hallway, away from listening ears. Carl stood in her front, his expression perfectly calm and unreadable. Martha looked at him with obvious disgust. "Listen, you piece of trash," She sneered, her voice hushed but audible. "I know people like you. You're just a Street beggar with an upgrade level of begging, you're doing everything just to survive for the next day. I don't know what the heck that stubborn man heard about you that he's so confident about, but when you walk in there, you play along with Dr. Leo and do whatever he does. Do you get me?!" She held Carl's gaze firmly without blinking. Her eyes were threatening. Carl scoffed, "I knew she wasn't really a good person." He said in his mind. "What you're asking, I can't do it." Carl refused flatly. "I came here because of your husband, why are you standing in the way? And with the way you speak in front of everyone with concern earlier, why do you have to drag me to a corner for this
Chapter 13: Poisoned
The ICU held the cold smell of antiseptic and death at the same time. And Carl smelled it in the air as soon as he walked in with Mr. Rothwell and his family. The room echoed with the steady beat from a heart beat monitor and the particular humming from machines that suggested mechanical was holding life at the edge. A few medical practitioners were in the room, dressed in crisp uniforms, surrounding a gurney where a woman laid, barely breathing. Her face was pale as ice, her lips dried like frost and her eyes were sunken, yet looking past those features given to her by whatever was eating her up, this woman was beautiful. Dr. Leo turned when he heard the door open behind him. He pulled his mask down and exhaled sharply, looking at the face with familiarity except for Carl's. He frowned slightly. "Mr. Rothwell your daughter's health is in a very critical state, we can't just allow a stranger to walk into the ICU." "I brought him in," the man said outrightly, his patience at th
Chapter 14: What is in that bottle?
"What??!" Gasps rippled through the room. Mr. Rothwell's jaw dropped in shock. Martha's eyes were widened in disbelief and shock, and something else moved behind her lashes. "How the heck did he know?" She said in her thoughts. Dave's expression mirrored her own. Dr. Leo's smile dropped flatly, his jaw parted like a fish gasping for water at the coast. He looked like a man who had been caught in the act. "What the hell are you talking about?!" He snapped, his voice rising more than he intended, trembling with the aftermath of Carl's revelation. He let out a skeptical laugh. "What are you now? A human X-rays? You looked at my patient with your dirty eyes and you called it poison?! This is ridiculous?!" Martha snapped from the haze. Her manicured finger jabbed at Carl accusingly, trembling. "I told you this poor thing was up to something!" She blurted, "he's spinning lies just to snuggle enough money from your pocket to start up an extravagant life!" "I knew he was up to no goo
Chapter 15: Aconite derivative
"Mr. Rothwell, this is an Aconite derivative." Carl said promptly, "It is a deadly poison, a slow organ eater." He said with a professional voice, "Aconite wasn't produced as a Poison at first. It was primarily to preserve food but after several tests, it was found to be dangerous, reducing anything it was used on. Meat, vegetables..anything...they continued to shrink. Aconite works like a chemical parasite. And because of that, even large quantities of it cannot be detected by any machines..." He said and turned to Dr. Leo who was practically sweating bullets now, sweats pouring from his head. He was convulsing visibly. "You knew about this and the danger it can do to the human body. And you also know the machines won't detect the traces because of the nature of Aconite." Carl said firmly, every word delivered with finality. "So I say Dr. Loe here was the one who poisoned your daughter." "What..what the hell are you spitting?!! What nonsense are you ranting about?" Dr. Leo's vo
Chapter 16: Dr. Leo's confession i
Dr. Leo's knees met the marble with sharp cracks. He was sweating and shaking all over. "Mr. Rothwell..I..I can explain..I can explain.. " He stuttered, his palm planted to the floor. "please.. forgive me...it wasn't all my doings." Mr. Rothwell turned back to look down at him, her brow raised. "What are you talking about, Dr. Leo?" "What are you doing, Dr. Leo" Martha bolted into the scene, her voice louder than intended, shaking with temor she tried to hide. The make-up couldn't hide the panic on her face and even Dave behind her was looking like a man who would collapse on the spot he was standing at any moment. "Why the heck are you kneeling!!" She screeched and spun to Carl, snapping a finger to his chest. Her expression twisted with anger and repugnance. "This is all your fault you piece of shit!! You framed him for something he didn't know!!" "Shut up!!" Mr. Rothwell bellowed, his voice cutting through the room with authority. "Let him speak!" Martha turned to him, bli
Chapter 17: Dr. Leo's confession ii
Mr. Rothwell turned his shocking face to look at the woman he married, his brow furrowing tight. "What the hell is he talking about?" He demanded, his voice sounding in the distance. Martha, shaking but trying to look firm let out a sharp nervous laughter, reaching out to hold her husband. "No, don't tell me you believe the nonsense he's saying..." The Man stepped back one step away from her. "Speak!" He snapped. "He's lying, honey.... don't believe this damn liar!!" Martha forced her voice to soften to a convincing edge yet it sounded horrible. "Mr. Rothwell I'm not lying....she paid me to poison your daughter... Naomi was never sick..it was the poison that slowly changed her body system until it reached the critical limit." Mr. Rothwell froze in place, the room suddenly titled before his eyes. His jaw dropped without closing back. Sweats poured from Martha's face profusely, her expensive gown clung to her skin yet she felt absolutely naked at the moment. Dr. Leo

Is she dumb to know that camera is everywhere? Rich pervert with snail brain!" Carl cursed under his breath.Jane smoothened his gown and wore a sweet smile. She met Mia and Betty, hands crossed behind her back, hiding the Blade.“... everything here costs fortunes. $15,000? A piece of gown?" Jane Walked in to hear Betty lamenting about how expensive the dresses were. She stepped closer to her, the fake devilish grin on her lips unwavering. Chapter 20
The accusation hit betty like a mallet jamming against the hunch of a Camel. She didn't even touch it. She didn't. People gathered around, fingers pointing at her like she was a criminal about to be stoned to death. She had only seen something like this in movies but it was happening to her at the moment. Tears burned in her eyes but it was yet to spill. She looked at Jane. She was cold, dark eyes filled with venom, and then she looked at Mia. She just stood there, still in shock of Jane's unexpected plot, like a woman w
