Chapter 1: A Night with the strange woman
A goddess on the bed. Carl froze immediately when he stepped out of the bathroom, water still dripping from his body to the floor. He squinted to the corner of the room, to the bed which was earlier empty just before he walked into the bathroom but now occupied by a woman. Carl swallowed hard. His thoughts spun, wondering how the woman got into his room. His gaze went to the door. It was widely open which means the woman had walked in while he was away. Wrong room. Carl walked to the door gently and closed it, barely making a sound. Turning, a cold hand wrapped around his body like an octopus whip, her body pressed against his chest. Hot breath grazed Carl's bare skin. Carl jerked slightly, electric current passing through his body from the contact. It was the woman. Carl's breath hitched. His eyes widened. He Attempted to pull her away from his body. “Madam, you're in the wrong room..you need to leave no..." "No wrong room..Hahaha.." She laughed loudly, the laughter
Chapter 2: $2 million grand

The memories of the previous night were blurry in her head as clouds dispersed in the sky. He looked at the man in front intently, maybe in one way, her vision would perform a trick and she would know if he was actually speaking the truth. The muscles of her eyes twitched in exhaustion, she collapsed into the bed heavily and helplessly. A sharp exhale escaped from her lips, her head slumped slightly, she was obviously at sea. Carl took a step close to her, his expression cracked with concern seeing her dazed. His voice softened at the edge as he broke the silence. "I know you're confused about everything," He said calmly and sincerely. "But I really wish you could believe me. If I coul

Carl Stared at the $2 million cheque without much interest like it wasn't really worth anything, then folded it neatly and shoved it down his pocket. "I'll find her later and return the money." He said and pulled his clothes, stepped into the bathroom for a shower. Today is a special day in his life so he should look at least, neat. He's finally going to see his wife again, the woman prison took away from him for ten years. The warm water washed over his body, steam bellowing into the air, filling the small space. His body was marred with Scars, each one a reminder of the tough life he survived in the prison. He tilted his back slightly, his palm pressed against the cold glass, allowing the water to cascade down his body. Memories from ten years ago resurfaced in his mind with clarity. He was just an ordinary man, the husband of a woman from a prestigious family in the city, Elira Kensington, but everything changed after Elira stumbled in one night with Blood all over her coat,

Carl couldn't afford it then. Walking up to her after several years with the necklace would make her happy. Immediately he pushed the door and stepped into Van cliff jewelry store, the scene before him stopped him. People clustered around something on the floor, the air buzzed with murmurs; some planted their head over their head sadly, while some people pulled out their phone, recording whatever stirred the spectacle at the centre. "What is going on here?" Carl muttered, stepping forward. He pushed through the small crowd. He narrowed his eyes to the front, to Elira standing in the halo on the stage, stunning as a woman ripped out of a magazine. It's been ten years and yet her beauty was still maintained, still elegant the way he knew her before he walked behind bars. Carl's heart raced, filled with anticipation. A genuine smile caught the corner of her lips. He didn't sit. He just stood at the end, staring at her till she began her speech. The hall fell into silence, allowing her voice to Carry across audibly. "Thank you everyone, thank you for honoring me with your presence because it really mattered to me a lot." She said eloquently. "It is a double win. A new age and the 7th year anniversary of Kensington Corporation operating smoothly. Without everyone of your efforts, it cou

Heads turned, uniformed attendants gawked, focusing all attention on him now rather than the event. Murmuring buzzed through the hall. Directional. Aimed at Carl. Even the music slowed like it wanted to listen to the incoming humiliation and make a beat or rhythm out of it. “Isn't that the useless son-in-law?” "That's him?" “Yes, I heard he killed an elite and was thrown into prison. Life imprisonment. Why is he even here?" A woman wearing a red gown, stirred her glass of wine and sipped it. She continued without asking. "His name— Carl Blackthorn. An ex-convict.." She said, and Cassandra cut through her words immediately. "Ex-con?" She raised a brow, obviously stunned at the realization. "What was his crime?" She was genuinely curious. "You won't believe it, Ms. Cassandra that this man is your sister's ex-husband and the reason he went to prison was because of your sister. Convicted For ten years for the murder of Henry Vernovas." Cassandra didn't speak immediately. Her leadership mind was calculating fast, his finger tapping on the table gently. "So, Elira wanted Carl gone from her life so she can marry Henry. A man stumbled out from the entrance and held his wrist, his palm was slick with sweat and he was shaking visibly. Mr. Rothwell, the popular tech mogul in the city. He was sweating, his face looked nothing like the expensive suit he put on. Yet the reverence at which he looked at Carl was undisputed. "Mr. Mercer.. you're here...I have been waiting for you.." The words stumbled out of his lips in panic. "Relax, Rothwell," Carl simply said, his voice steady unlike the man. "Where is she?"
