Chapter 1
Adrian stood motionless, his tall as the cold wind Whispered through the cemetery, rustling the brittle, dry leaves scattered across the ground. His breath came out in visible puffs as he stared at the gravestone before him.The words on the gravestone blurred as tears welled up in his eyes. He slipped his trembling hands into his pocket.“You were the only one who cared. When everyone else turned their backs, you saw something in me I didn’t even see in myself. I wish you could see what’s happening, it doesn’t feel the same without you here.” Adrian held his tears from dropping; he was standing above Roman Lockwood’s grave. The only man who believed in his ability and who brought him into the Lockwood mansion. He turned to leave and when he got home, he found his mother-in-law peering at him as if she wanted to kill him.“Where the hell are you coming from?” she bawled.“I am coming from the cemetery,” he replied.“What? I have warned you time without numbers not to step foot in th

“And I woke up like this with you. Don’t tell me it’s what I am thinking. Did you do it, did you put it inside of me.” She yelled, her voice mixed with anger. “You took advantage of me, you are evil.” Adrian’s mouth agape in shock, his eyes wide with disbelief and hurt. “Ava, what are you saying? I didn’t.” “Shut up,” she countered, “No, I can’t remember anything. I am calling the cops.” She screamed, looking around for her phone. Ava grabbed her phone, but Adrian, who wore just his boxer, moved closer. “Ava, wait it’s not what you think. I can explain.” He said, trying to calm her down. His voice was filled with anguish. Just when he thought he had the best time in three years, his wife accused him of taking advantage of her and threatened to call the cops.“You came home drunk last night, you were the one who came to my side of the bed. You came to me, you wanted it. You kissed me, Ava.” He explained. “You begged me not to leave you. I thought it was what you wanted. I never dru

“Please, this is not going to waste much of your time.” “Okay, go ahead and let us know what it is,” Ava said. The lawyer placed the disk for them, and they all sat down to watch as it was set to play before them. Delilah Lockwood saw her husband in the tape. Their eyes popped out in disbelief and horror.“This is not possible, this is not my husband. He was drunk when he made this video.’ Delilah yelled, her voice was filled with anger and confusion.Adrian was surprised upon hearing what Mr Roman spilt out in the video. “Mr. Roman Lockwood made that video because he believed a day like this would come when either of them might want a divorce.” The lawyer said.“My husband is one of the most foolish men I have ever known; why would he demand that we give Adrian a million dollars if he ever divorced my daughter? I mean our daughter? Who in their right mind would do such a thing?”“Mr. Roman is not foolish, but he was most respected and humble man I have ever known. He knew you all
Chapter 4
Adrian cursed under his breath as a surge of adrenaline washed through him. He bolted down the street, weaving through parked cars and abandoned dumpsters. The dim street lights cast fleeting shadows that dance like spectres in the night. The men were determined, their footsteps echoing in the cold night air. A crack of a gunshot echoed through the night; the bullet struck a steel container, missing Adrian. His mind continued to race as he scanned for an escape route. He found an open space where he rushed towards, hoping to disappear from the men, only to find himself at the dead end of a street. “Damn it,” he muttered in frustration. As he thought of running, a distant hum of the engine grew louder, with a black SUV screeched at the corner. Its headlights cut through the darkness like twin blades. Adrian barely had time to process what was happening. The door swung open, and two men in black alighted from the car and pulled out their guns, opening with precision. The first shot

“I don’t have anyone to take over from me; I am a man with nothing to live for but the preservation of our family legacy.” Adrian shifted uncontrollably, “I am sorry for your loss but I don’t understand what has this had to do with me.”Simon’s expression softened as he stared at Adrian. “I am an old man, seventy-five years is no child’s play. My time is running out, and I refuse to let this empire fall into the hands of outsiders. People who have no understanding of the Brown’s name or the sacrifice it took to build it. Your father and I built it together before he left the world. You are the only surviving Kin, and I need someone with our name to carry on what we have built.” Adrian stared at him in stunned silence. “You mean you are asking me to take over the family empire,”Simon nodded, as a fainted smile tugged by the side of his lips. “I am not asking; I am offering you an opportunity most people would kill for. I have heard a lot about you, you attended the best school, Than

Simon could tell they were all becoming impatient, and he had something installed for them. These people have worked with him for decades, but he is beginning to see their true colours. A few of them wanted him to step down so they could input someone they wanted, who would be by their side, but Simon was smart and wouldn’t allow them to succeed.A small smirk formed by the side of his lips; he stood up, adjusting his suit in confidence. It was time to show them he had a family member who would succeed him. He gestured towards the doors of the hall. “Allow me to introduce you to my successor.”The room fell into deep silence as all eyes tossed towards the door, which creaked open, Revealing a tall, dark-haired young figure.Adrian walked into the hall with confidence, leaving them in shock, as their faces were etched in disbelief.“Who is this?” Olivia asked, as his face turned pale.Adrian stood beside Simon, he kept a mild expression as he watched the men and women before him. The following day, the tension in the conference room was palpable, an evident weight pressing down on everyone present; Adrian sat beside Mr Simon, with his hands clasped together, while Mr Simon leaned on the chair, staring at the faces of the board members. The board members were seated with their expressions mixed with impatience and a bit of worry. “What is taking the Doctor so long, must we have to wait all day before we know the actual results?” Amelia said with her voice tingling.A quiet murmuring erupted from the others, as most of them glanced at the wristwatch. Mr. Simon looked at her with an unpredictable expression. “The truth will reveal itself in due time.” The double door creaked open, silencing the murmuring in the room. Dr. Kasper walked in with the men assigned to look after him. His black cases were tucked under one arm and a folder in his other hand. His expression was composed and professional.“Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Sorry for keeping you waitin

“I don’t know mom. I knew I slept with Both Adrian and Wesley.” Mrs. Delilah Sharp’s gaze lifted to her daughter, her lips tightening in disapproval. “What do you mean? You are pregnant, and you don’t know who the father of your baby is. Is that how I trained you?”Ava placed the test strip down, she couldn’t shake the weight of the situation that was pressing down on her. She remembered having a one-night thing with her ex-husband, who is now a millionaire, and the next day, she slept with Wesley, her boyfriend. “Everything is messy, I can’t tell who is the father.” She replied. There was a moment of silence between them, as Ava kept a downward gaze.“I know who the father is,” Mrs Delilah spilt out while Ava stared at her mother in confusion. “Yes, the father is Adrian.”Ava sniffed softly, “But, Mom, you can’t tell. What if Wesley is the baby's father? What are we going to do?” Ava asked in a low tone.“Shut up, You should be ashamed of yourself that you don’t know who got you pr

“We don’t have anything to say; I want a DNA test to be conducted to know who the real father is, so you leave my office. I will let you know when it’s time for the DNA test.”“I am not going anywhere,” Adrian didn’t utter a word to her; he took the intercom and called his guards. Ava kept ranting about reporting him to the police and posting it on social media platforms, but Adrian didn’t say anything. When the guards came into his office.“Yes, boss.”Take her out of my office, and don’t allow her to step foot again in this building, not even some meters away. If you do spot her anywhere, don’t hesitate to inform the police.” His voice was sharp and firm.Ava’s mouth gapes in shock; she has never seen this side of her ex-husband. “You are sending me out of your office, Adrian. We need to talk about this,” she yelled.
