Just A Gut Feeling
Sam chuckled seeing Ryder's had been quipped. This was what he wanted. It wasn't as though he wanted to manipulate the latter. From the looks of it, they both had their interests, and it would be a good thing if it was able to align. That would mean a whole lot of less stress for him. Besides, there was no way he would be able to manipulate Ryder. Wanting to do that was just aiming too high, the other party too was not a fool. Considering all of these, Sam took in a deep breath and continued what he was saying. "The ex-commandos had been injured during a mission, leaving them either paralyzed on a wheelchair, thus forcing them to retire early," "Then came the time for the government, or would I say the system to compensate them, and give them their gratuity," Old man Sam sighed, his voice held disappointment, "That was where the problem started," "The money was nowhere to be found, the money was paid out, but never got to the soldiers who were desperately in need of it," Ryder
Tighten Up The Security
"So, are you willing to help treat them? Or is there no chance?" Sam broke the silence following a long moment of silence, his gaze never leaving Ryder. "Sure, I'll treat them," Ryder agreed without hesitation, the smile on his face got wider with each second. He also needed the men, so it was going to be a win-win for the both of them. Though he was not going to force them to join him, he would still do his best to convince them and see if they would be willing to join him. "What's the condition?" Sam's old voice came, pulling Ryder out of his thoughts. From his years of experience, he knew there was nothing like a free lunch. "Well..." Ryder started, but paused, stroking his chin. It wasn't as though he was looking for a reward or anything. If the men refused to join him, it was all good. "You don't have to worry about that, everything depends on them, if they are willing," Ryder continued after a while, shaking his head in the process, "And what if they aren't willing?" Sam
Olivia
"Finally done with those stacks of documents," Ryder moaned, standing up, stretching his body. Picking up his phone, he glanced at the time, shook his head and prepared to leave the station. It was time to head back home. Those two little brats would be waiting for him. Also, he had some other things to do. Thinking like this, Ryder left the station, took a taxi and headed back home. In no time, the taxi pulled up before Ryder's villa. Alighting from the car, Ryder whistled as he walked into his house. "You're back," Olivia's cold voice came, the moment Ryder stepped in. "Yes," Ryder nodded, stopping in his tracks, slowly turning to Olivia who was sitting on the sofa. "Or perhaps were you waiting for me?" Ryder inquired, his brows narrowing into a thin line as he stared at Olivia. Normally, when he came back and she was in the sitting room, she would be watching the television. But today, she wasn't watching anything and sat cross-legged as though she had been waiting for him.
Olivia Vs Ryder
Ryder's expression didn't flatter, and instantly, he raised his hands, blocking the kick. Seeing her kick blocked, Olivia wasn't surprised. On the contrary, she would have been surprised if the kick was able to land on Ryder. Without wasting another breath, using the motion, she lifted herself into the air, sending another kick at Ryder with her other leg. With a simple motion just like before, Ryder parried the kick, and Olivia also landed, but she didn't wait, instead, rushed forward, throwing a punch, aiming at Ryder's jaw. Ryder's hands also flew out in quick succession, intercepting the uppercut with a slight push of his palms. Olivia smirked and stepped even closer, this time, her eyes becoming colder, without a warning, she kicked out again, but this time, her kick was low, directly aiming at Ryder's legs. Before Ryder could react, she kicked both his legs in quick succession, forcing him to lose balance and he fell headfirst to the floor. Using the opportunity, she grabb
Convinced?
Getting to Ryder, she punched out, aiming at his head. Seeing this, Ryder moved, tilting his head slightly, and the next moment, her fist went straight into the cracked screen of the TV, causing more of the glass to fall off. At the same time, a sharp pain cruised through Olivia's fist, causing blood to flow down her wrist. Some of the glass shards had pierced through her skin. But Olivia didn't seem to care about this, as her cold expression didn't change. Withdrawing her fist, then stopped halfway and elbowed Ryder's face. With a slight raise of his palms, Ryder caught the elbows, and with a slight push sent Olivia stumbling backwards. In a heartbeat, Ryder closed the distance, his fist flying in quick succession towards Olivia's face, each punch packed with power. Olivia, caught in a defensive stance, could only raise both hands to block the attack. The first punch landed, then the second, and then the third. Just as the fourth was about to hit, Olivia's eyes flashed with a g
Olivia's Dilemma
That night, Ryder sat cross legged cultivating. With his hard work, and the array he had set up, he had broken into early stage Foundation Realm. As long as he was able to break into the Golden Core Realm, he would be able to do more than just enhance his physical strength and others. Only then would he be able to call himself a true cultivator. He would then begin to learn other martial arts techniques, sword slash and the others. It was then he would truly be able to say he was a master. Else, he was still a nobody. One thing he knew again was that since the System had given him Cultivation, it meant that he was not the only cultivator in the world. As all of these thoughts conveyed, the arrogance in Ryder's heart vanished. Pride comes before a fall and he knew this too well, there was no way he would let himself become a victim to it. With this, Ryder pushed away all the distraction and focused on Cultivating. A soft knock came just as Ryder was about to concentrate forcing hi
The Ex-commandos
The next day came as quickly as the night covered the day before. The sun rays illuminating the room, falling on Ryder who was sitting and still cultivating. Ryder's eyes shot open after a while as he yawned, stretching his body. Cultivating all night long, yet he wasn't tired, but rather he felt energetic. Though it didn't yield much since his physique was not too good, it was still worthwhile and he didn't even feel tired at all. The first thing he had to do when he had enough points was to get a powerful physique, else, he was going to be held back by it. Also, he would need to get some herbs so as to improve his cultivation speed. With that, Ryder decided he was heading to the herb store right after work. Pushing all of these thoughts aside, he stood up preparing to go wash up and leave for work when his phone rang. "Good morning," Patrick's voice came from the other end of the phone the moment Ryder answered the call. "Morning," Ryder answered curtly, his voice indic
Work For Me
"Huh?" The men froze, their expression changed from that of shock, to surprise and then confusion. How did Ryder know about their hidden injuries? Even the old man Sam didn't know about it. All he knew was their paralysis. "You don't have to worry about how I know about your injuries, the main thing is that I can treat you," Ryder spoke, his voice pulling the men back to their senses. Naturally, Ryder had used his Qi to probe their bodies the moment he walked into the Villa, so he was able to tell what was wrong with them. "Let's assume you can treat us, what do you want in return?" The man who had spoken up before said and the others nodded. Clearly, they didn't fully trust Ryder and not only that, they knew he was not going to do this for free. "My terms are quite simple," Ryder smirked, his voice turning serious. "All I want is for you to work for me and give me a hundred percent of your loyalty." "That's all, simple and clear," Ryder spread out his hand, the smile on his f
Rules And Benefits
(Three Days Later) "So what's your decision?" Ryder inquired, standing before the men. At the moment, they were in his house. Instead of going over to the Cooper family Villa, he made the men come and they had no objections. Jasmine, Fiona and Olivia were not at home, so he was not worried about anything. "We agree," Jay, whom Ryder seemed to have established as the leader, rolled his wheelchair forward and said while the others nodded in agreement behind him. "Perfect, perfect," Ryder burst out into laughter, a glint flashing in eyes. The men on the other hand frowned slightly wondering if they had made a mistake in accepting Ryder's offer. After a while, Ryder finally managed to stop laughing. His gaze falling back on the men. "Now that you've accepted my offer, I'll inform you about the nature of what you'll be doing for me and also the rules included," Ryder started, his voice getting serious with each sentence. The men also became alert, their hearts thumping against thei
Cultivators
"Alright, that's it, I'll start treating you," Ryder sighed, then went back to his room to pick the needles he had prepared. Also, he would need to boil some herbs too. Their hidden injuries were what would give him an issue. Besides, he had been thinking about how was going to introduce Cultivation to them. He had to find a way. He was sure they all knew martial arts. This was one of the basic things a commando would be taught, right? They would even teach them this before starting to teach them how to use arms and the others. Walking back to the living room, Ryder noticed the men seemed to be nervous as though they wanted to ask him about something but seemed rather hesitant. "What's wrong?" Ryder asked, wondering why they were like that. "You said you know about our hidden injuries, right?" Jay spoke slowly, as though he was trying to gauge Ryder's emotion as his eyes were fixated on him. "Yes?" Ryder narrowed his brows, wondering what they were trying to get to. "Can you t
