. CHAPTER FORTY-ONE The sun was barely up, but Adrian was fully awake, standing in front of the tall building. His eyes soon began to move from one corner to the other if he was in search of something. He took a deep breath, and taking a few steps forward, he stopped in front of the wooden door. Slowly, he lifted his right hand, balling his fist.He turned his knuckles to the door, but just when he was about to punch, a sudden sensation gripped him, forcing him to stop. He sighed heavily, grinding his teeth. His eyes looked back, staring at the avenue that had created his path to the doorstep. The feeling to leave was intense, but the desire to know the truth was still intact. “Why does this feel so wrong, yet I am eager to know?” He muttered, grunting at the strange sensation that crawled into his body. After struggling with his feelings, he decided to knock, his knuckles picking up the dust that had pinned their tents to the wood. He waited, ten seconds, yet there was no o

CHAPTER FORTY-TWO “Yes.” Adrian nodded, and his smile reappeared. “Tell him that Seventh is here to see him. I am sure that he will ask you to let me in.” “Please, come in!” Micah quickly left the way, opening the door wider. “My Master has been waiting for you. He said you were going to come someday!” He bowed, his entire body gripped by growing agitation. Adrian sighed heavily, and without delay, he stepped into the building, taking his steps slow and steady. The little boy shut the boy silently after he had looked to be sure that no one else was around. Eventually, he was at Adrian, watching silently from behind as he sauntered to the middle of what was supposed to be a living room.Adrian’s steps had become slower, more like he was counting five seconds before taking the next step. His eyes moved from one corner of the large room to the other, and even though a lot had changed, it didn’t stop the memory from crashing inside his mind. He halted after a few steps, turning to

“No…” The lady gasped, taking two steps backward. She tried to struggle with the reality staring her in the face, but the more she tried, the more difficult it was for her. At that moment, it seemed as though she had lost her voice, and Adrian was forced to break the silence. “Is the old man still alive?” He asked, and the lady nodded. She cleared her throat, and nervously, she pointed to the door behind her. “He said you were going to come.” She whispered, her voice cracked and very low. Adrian nodded, and then he gestured to her to lead the way.Slowly, she obeyed, but was forced to always look back at each moment she felt like doing so. Several thoughts were roaming inside her mind, but it was hard for her to decide which one of them she was going to focus on.The door they walked through led into a large room, almost empty if not for the long and thick curtains that were placed over the windows, preventing the sunlight from getting into the room.An old man sat by the corne

CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR Adrian stared at the young lady as she sauntered toward him, grunting at the weight of the chair she was carrying. When she drew closer to Adrian, she dropped the chair, placing it in a very good position for him. Adrian chuckled softly, and then he nodded. “Thank you, Aria.” He turned to the old man, staring him in the face.“Now I see the resemblance. She took after you, old man.” Gerald chuckled softly, and then he turned to Aria. “Get us something to drink, Aria.” “Yes, Master Gerald.” Aria bowed, and after a glance at Adrian, she left in a hurry. Adrian turned to Gerald, his eyes wide with curiosity. “Master Gerald? Is that what she calls you?”“That’s what everyone calls me, Adrian. That’s what you called me when you were here.”“But I was not your grandson.” Adrian made himself very comfortable on the chair, resting his back on it. “You were more than a grandson to me, Adrian. You were like a son to me.” The old man grunted, nodding to affirm his wor

“That was fifteen years ago, old man.” Adrian finally found his words, taking a deep breath. He felt the cringe that gripped him, attached to his nerves. “I didn’t know, old man.” He said calmly, and then he cleared his throat. “You told me that he was a murderer, Master. You told me that he killed his wife and daughter.” “That’s because I was deceived, Adrian.” The old man sighed heavily, and then he leaned backward. “I have regretted sending you on that mission since I discovered that he was innocent. I am convinced that you left because of that mission.” Adrian shook his head, looking the old man in the eyes. “I left because I was tired of the lifestyle. I was tired of the killing and staying indoors until there was someone who needed to pay for his crimes.” He paused for a while, but emotions were still sparking in his eyes. “I wanted more, old man. You told us that our lives didn’t depend on the killing and hiding. Besides, I knew that someday, karma was going to come kno

CHAPTER FORTY-SIX “Why are you doing this?” Aria asked, staring Adrian in the face. She could see the strong determination that was plastered all over his face, but it was hard for her to fathom the reason why Adrian was about to do what he had made up his mind for. Adrian took a deep breath, and then he inched closer to the young lady, holding onto his deadpan expression that almost seemed like it was cold. “Master Gerald taught me everything that I know, Aria. I owe him my loyalty and respect.” Aria nodded, and a smile appeared slowly on her face. “So you are willing to risk your life because of that?” She stared with disbelief etched on her face, and finally, she sighed heavily. “I don’t think I have seen so many noble men like yourself, Seven. The stories about you were never wrong.” Adrian scoffed. “I never think of myself as noble. I just believe that I am willing to do everything it takes to get justice. Besides, I have a personal vendetta that I wish to accomplis

CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN For the umpteenth time, Adrian had turned to look at Aria, still battling the intense feeling that gripped him. He leaned backward, resting his head on the seat of his car. “I don’t think this is right, Aria. It’s going to be very dangerous out there.” He thought that he was going to be able to convince the lady, but her mind was already made up.“There is nothing you can say to make me change my mind, Seven,” Aria said with a wry smile, and then she looked through the windshield, staring at the old mansion.“We should be on our way before the old man comes out. Now that you have revived him, I am certain that he would definitely want to see the sunlight.” Adrian grunted, but knowing that the lady was definitely making sense, he was forced to turn on the ignition of the car, and in a matter of seconds, he was already driving out of the premises, heading toward the main road through the narrow path that almost indicated that they were in a dead zone. Barely fiv

CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT Aria was the first to alight from the car, and she walked to the wooden bridge before Adrian could join her. She waited until he was close enough, and then she turned to him with a look of bemusement etched on her face. “I didn’t think of this, Adrian.” “Think of what?” Adrian asked, and Aria pointed. “That…” She turned to the drones that were flying high above them, staring with nervousness etched on her face. “I forgot that the Plit Clan head family takes their security very seriously.” She muttered, sighing in frustration. When she turned to Adrian and saw that he didn’t seem bothered, she was curious, staring at him with arched brows. “Do you realize that we are in big trouble?” She inquired, staring at Adrian with wide eyes. Adrian scoffed, looking up at drones that were hovering in the air, their cameras moving from one corner to the other, zooming in to pick even the smallest objects that could seem suspicious. Luckily, Adrian and Aria were s

CHAPTER FORTY-NINE He stared at it for a while, and then he took a deep breath, moving his hands forward slowly while he took a deep breath. “What are you doing?” Aria stopped him before he could get close to the electric fence, her eyes wide with concern.“Do you realize that you could get roasted to ashes if you touch this, right?” “I know,” Adrian said casually, giving Aria another reason to be deeply concerned about him.“So what are you trying to do?” She asked, holding onto his hands. “Are you trying to get yourself killed, Adrian? Is that your plan?” Adrian scoffed, shaking his head without getting rid of the smirk that was etched all over his face.“Who said anything about dying?” He paused for a few seconds, staring into Aria’s eyes. “Just relax and watch, Aria.” He said calmly, and then he moved his hands out of her grip before he continued moving them toward the electric fence. Aria was worried, but she couldn’t continue looking at him, her attention caught by the so

CHAPTER FIFTY Adrian on the other hand remained calm, his eyes on the feet of the huge man who had been standing at the doorstep with his head bent because of his height. It seemed as though he had sensed the presence of intruders, and this made Aria panic as she remained where she was, struggling with her breath. “What is it, Hill?” The pleasant voice from earlier asked, and then a silent footstep followed. “I think someone is in here. Or someone just left not so long ago.” Hill said with a very deep voice, and then he grunted, moving his nose from one corner to the other. “That’s not possible, Hill,” Milo said confidently, taking a deep breath.“No one would be foolish enough to come into this place. Not after the last thing that happened.” Milo argued, and then he peeped into the passage through the little space that Hill’s huge body permitted. “I can smell them, Milo. There is a strong scent in here.” Hill said with a scowl, and then he sniffed thrice, moving his nose up and
