1. Ambush
A young man could be seen running through the streets of Ashmere, the neon lights shining on his body. It was nighttime, and Ashmere was as beautiful as ever. But this young man had no time to appreciate the beauty of the city. He was wearing a long black coat with golden yellow glyphs glowing on the body of the coat. His hair was black and he had brown eyes. But what was very noticeable was the fact that he was handsome, as handsome as a TV star. This handsome young man was Nathan, Nathan Reyes, and he was an Exorcist.Yes, an exorcist.Well, it all happened fifty years ago when humanoid beings, demons, appeared on planet Earth. They were physically stronger than humans, and to make matters worse, they were able to use special abilities that could only be imagined. With their appearance, the world was in disarray. And within a month. They had managed to take over one continent, the continent of Gridterra. The humans were unable to put up a fight. Missiles killed only the cannon fodde
2. Valak, The Whispering Demon
Nathan didn't know when, but a hand had already gone through his stomach. In shock, he looked down to see the grey-skinned arm with sharp, long black nails through his body. His vision was blurry, and his gaze became unfocused. In the distance, he could see the silhouette of a man, about twenty-three years of age. He had black hair, but his facial features could not be seen. Just like Nathan, the man had a grey arm going through his stomach. His face couldn't be seen, but from the slight tilt of his mouth, it was obvious that the man was smiling. Looming over him was a horned shadow, with a mocking grin on its face. The shadows cleared, at the face became visible, its red eyes staring at Nathan, its mocking grin more profound. "Run, Nathan" The man with an arm through his stomach said through burps of blood. The grin on the face of the demon became more profound. "Yes, run Nathan, or I, Valak, will kill you" "No" Nathan's eyes became focused again. He turned his head t
3. The Demon Core Exorcist System
The changes to his body weren't as profound as one would think. There was just a red hue covering his now violet eyes, and a very dangerous aura coming off his body."Better calm down, kid, it's not my fault that I'm inside you"Valak was annoyed, but at the same time amused. Nathan's reaction was what he expected, but it left a bitter taste in his mouth. Someone was so bitter at the mention of him"It was the skill you used that put us in this position"Nathan had to calm down because the changes in his body were foreign to him. The strength he had wasn't something that was there before; even the demonic aura coming off his body wasn't his."What happened to me?"Nathan was confused, and even though he didn't like Valak at all, Valak was the only choice he had to understand the situation he was in. How he was able to live after that fatal wound, or how he was way stronger than the way he was before."Try to understand the skill name"Those were the last words that Valak said before g
4. Ruin Exploration
Right now, Nathan has a basic understanding of the system. The only thing he hadn't checked out was the system quests.Very quickly, he opened up the quest tab.[Available Quests][Exorcise 10 Lesser Demons(+ 5 Stat Points)][Reach Novice Grade 3 Before Entrance Exam (+ 1 Holy Skill)]Nathan had two thoughts on this: all that he needed to do was to do what was assigned to him by the system. With his situation understood, Nathan quickly stood up from his bed and went into the bathroom to freshen up.Within a few minutes, he was done, and he headed to the living room.Nathan and Jin were living in a two-bedroom apartment, the rent being paid fifty percent by each party. So Nathan had to take up a job working in a convenience store down the street just to pay his rent.As for Jin, he was a successful Qtuber who talked about the supernatural and unsolved mysteries. He went for explorations in abandoned ruins. Most times, he found nothing, but the thrill of not knowing what happened next g
5. Neon Crypts: Weapon Graveyard
Before long, the duo were already walking for about an hour. Jin had the recording stopped as this footage wasn't necessary. Nothing exciting was happening, and it was just a long walk. "This is so boring" Nathan whined as he dragged his legs walking beside Jin."Is this how all your videos go?" he asked"Just be patient, something will happen", Jin answered with a chuckle. "Well, I hope so", Nathan said. The area around them was dark, so dark that one wouldn't be able to see their own hands. But Jin's camera had a light on it, and Nathan didn't have to worry, because he could see in the dark. He looked into the distance and saw light, a few hundred meters away from them. The light was like a mixture of red, purple and blue, giving off a neon glow. The light was far away from them, so Jin couldn't see it. Nathan decided to keep quiet and wait for Jin to notice it first because it would seem weird if he could suddenly see so far into the dark. Thankfully, he didn't need to wait fo
6. Trial of Twin Paths: Path of Strength
In a few seconds, he made his decision and walked towards the path of strength. As soon as he stepped into the pathway, he felt something, like he was sealed. Immediately, he thought about activating one of his skills, and instead of the skill being activated, what he saw was a system message. [ERROR!! Holy Core Sealed]Nathan was surprised; this wasn't what he had expected. He never knew something like this was going to happen, but he didn't panic. He quickly tried activating his night gaze, but the same message appeared. "Valak, are you there?"Nathan asked, but he received no response. He didn't know whether he couldn't just communicate with Valak or if Valak just decided to mess with him at this point. But it didn't matter. "So this was a trap after all"Nathan said as he called up his system interface. [Name: Nathan Reyes][Race: Hybrid Lesser Demon][Demon Core: Monoceros (Grade 1)] (Sealed)[Holy Core: Novice (Grade 1)] (Sealed)[Sin: Gluttony][STR: 17][AGL:19][DEX: 15]
7. The Path of Endurance
The wall behind Jin sealed shut with a heavy clang. He was alone now.The hallway ahead was short, ending in an archway carved with the image of two armoured hands pressed together. Faint lines of orange light ran through the carvings like veins.Just like Nathan, Jin also felt like he couldn't use energy, but just to confirm, he performed some hand seals, but nothing happened. Jin wasn't surprised. He quickly put the camera away. While this was peak entertainment, he didn't know if what would come next could destroy the camera, and other than that, he had a feeling that if he recorded this and it got out, it would be troublesome for both him and Nathan. And he didn't want that.As Jin stepped through, the floor beneath him hummed. The chamber he entered was huge, a wide, circular arena with high walls made of dark stone. The floor was divided into large, square tiles, each one glowing faintly. The ceiling was far above, lost in shadow, but Jin could hear faint metallic clicks comin
8. Trial of Twin Paths: Path Of Agility
The hallway after the Path of Strength was narrow and silent. Blue light ran through shallow grooves in the stone floor, pulsing gently like a heartbeat. Nathan followed the light until it widened into another chamber. It was nothing like the first. The "floor" here wasn't a floor at all; it was an open void, stretching down into darkness so deep that Nathan couldn't see the bottom. Suspended in the air were floating platforms of various shapes and sizes. Some were wide and steady, others were little more than narrow planks. Many shifted slowly, either drifting from side to side or rotating just enough to throw off anyone who wasn't careful.Chains hung from the unseen ceiling above, connected to massive swinging blades. Some moved lazily, others fast enough that the edges blurred in the dim light. A low, rhythmic whoosh echoed through the chamber every time a blade passed. On the far side of the void was another stone doorway, smaller than the one at the end of the Strength trial, bu
9. The Path of Control
The corridor after Jin's first trial was short and quiet. He stepped through into a new chamber, smaller than the endurance arena, but far more dangerous. The floor was narrow and uneven, made of shifting stone plates that rose and sank without warning. Some sections had jagged spikes jutting from the walls, others had thick columns that dropped from above like hammers. And there was barely any open space. This wasn't going to be about lasting. This was going to be about precision. The voice spoke, calm but firm:"Strength without control shatters itself. Control without strength fades. Show me balance in both."A deep rumble rolled through the room. From the far side, a heavy gate rose, and two massive figures stepped out. They were humanoid, but unlike the smooth metallic hounds from the last trial, these were Sentinels, towering, broad-shouldered constructs with armour-like plating. Their arms were thick, ending in blunt, heavy fists that could crush stone. Their heads were shaped
10. Trial of Twin Paths: The Echo Knight
The air inside the new chamber was colder.Nathan stepped through the arched doorway, and the stone slammed shut behind him. This was not like the other trials. There were no swinging blades, no shifting tiles, no cover. The arena was a wide, perfect circle of smooth black stone. The walls curved upward, vanishing into darkness. There was no door on the other side.Only silence. Then the voice came, deeper than before, with a weight that pressed into his chest:"To wield strength without speed is to be caught. To wield speed without strength is to be broken. Show me you can be both."Nathan stopped for a moment, the voice in his head giving him information, and every sentence it made had a profound meaning, something that Nathan admired. From the centre of the arena, the ground rippled. Stone flowed upward like liquid, forming a shape. It was a man.Same height as Nathan. Same build. Even the same face. But its eyes glowed faint silver, and in its hands were two daggers, one with a he
