General Flocki
CHAPTER 1 - General FlockiThe sun was setting, casting an orange glow over the blood-drenched battlefield. The Eastern Rebellion's famous general, Flocki, stood amidst the chaos, surveying the pandemonium with his battle-weary eyes that had seen far too many wars. His soldiers were valiantly holding on but were slowly being worn down. The enemy was just too numerous. But Flocki? He was rock-solid and unwavering.“Sir!” A young soldier, panting and covered in dirt, dashed to his side. “The western flank... they’ve broken through. We can’t hold them any longer.” Flocki tightened his jaw. His plan had been so detailed, even a bit obsessive, but good tactics sometimes come undone when the bulge in the balloon has to go somewhere and when the other side barely thinks and just pushes and pushes and pushes. He turned to his lieutenant, a man of middle years who had been with him long enough to know what he didn’t want to hear and what he did want to hear."Calder, when will the reinforcem
Reborn
CHAPTER 2 - RebornFlocki awoke with a start, his body soaked in sweat. He drew in a few labored breaths, his chest rising and falling sharply as if it were struggling to inflate. His ribs hurt more than they ever had. The last thing he remembered was dying. But now, he was...alive?The smells were wrong, the scents of blood and many kinds of death absent. What was this place? He had never been anywhere like it before in his life, and everything about it felt too wrong to be real. He should have been in the afterlife, among the spirits of the dead. Instead, he was here, weak, achy, and with no sense of having been reborn.Flocki pushed himself into a sitting position, groaning as his protesting muscles complied. He looked down at his hands; they were smaller and thinner than they should be. What was happening to his body?He swung his legs over the side of the bed and then froze. Where was he, anyway? He glanced about, taking in the odd room and the beautiful young woman standing in
The Weight Of Chains
CHAPTER 3: THE WEIGHT OF CHAINSThat evening, Raiden walked through the quiet Elthorn compound, his mind occupied with troubling thoughts. His past life had been one of weakness. But Flocki, the man he truly was, would not take the kinds of insults he had taken before. He would find strength, and he would make those who had mistreated him answer for it.As he was about to step through the portal to the next mission, a voice stopped him.“Raiden! Where are you off to in such a hurry?” The voice was womanly, but he sensed the sharpness in its tone. Selene, his sister-in-law."Mother says you are running off again to play the hero. You should just give up, Raiden. You will never be more than a servant in this family." Raiden met Selene's gaze, clear, unwavering. "We will see about that." Selene stepped closer, her voice now low enough that only he could hear. "Just don’t die out there, Raiden. Mother wouldn’t want you to miss the next round of chores."Raiden kept his fists tightly cl
The Warrior's Conquest
CHAPTER 4: THE WARRIORS CONQUESTThe sun was just starting to rise, and it was beginning to cast beautiful rays of light through the grand windows of Elthorn Manor. Raiden had just returned from the stables, and oh, what a time he had had out there. Between him and anyone half-sensible, the stable hands ran the charge of keeping up the horses. Raiden had done his part like an upstanding citizen; in fact, he had done his part more so than anyone might naturally expect. But that was him. He was Raiden, and if he were anything, he was not a schemer. So he had ridden back through the stables as far as there was a way and a door to come back inside.Raiden heard voices through the ajar door of the drawing room, and there was something about them that made him not want to pass on by."Is everything prepared?" Lady Morgana asked, her tone brisk and commanding.Selene, her legs crossed, gave a lazy nod. "Of course, Mother. Everything is set and ready to go. Lucan is prepared to show his power
Shadows Of The Past
CHAPTER 5: SHADOWS OF THE PAST Far from the Elthorn Estate, a secluded manor filled with the burnt, herbal scent of despair awaited the tedium of late-night labors. Dark magic pulsed through the very walls of the structure, and the air tasted of ancient power and the slightest hint of forbidden rituals. You could almost hear the place whisper its secrets to you if you dared enter its domain. A close-up audition of what was in the very corners of the shadow-painted haven would have been a fascinating scoop for any enterprising reporter, and certainly for those in magic's employ. Elthorn might have found a way in. He certainly had the time and means to try, and if he couldn't, well, he had at least lit a stack of kindling in prospect for any in our midst who might seek to unmask the tendrils of darkness serving either the Ebon Alliance or some similarly sinister cabal. At the head of the table sat Giovanni, the leader of the magicians, his sharp features lit up by the orb's unnatural
The Quiet Power
CHAPTER 6: THE QUIET POWERRaiden sat quietly in the garden. A warm, gentle breeze rustled through the leaves as the sun began its slow descent. Before him lay a collection of ancient scrolls, and he was studying them intently, trying to comprehend the complex and difficult teachings on sword magic and chakra gates. The serene ambiance of the garden was quickly replaced by the sound of footsteps approaching…..footsteps that were anything but quiet. As Selene approached, her lips twisted into a smirk that was almost a sneer. She was obviously coming to give him a hard time, and she wasted no time starting in on him. He chose not to respond right away, thinking that if he ignored her long enough, she might leave. He continued to read, his focus unwavering, despite the range of expressions appearing on Selene's ever-changing face.Selene's tone was sharper than necessary. "I heard about your performance at the Conquest. An E-rank? Even for you, that's pathetic. Everyone's been laughing
Awakening The Power Within
CHAPTER 7: AWAKENING THE POWER WITHIN.Raiden found himself in the middle of a forest, where the morning mist swirled around his feet. He had never exerted so much energy before, and he could feel his heart racing with the potential of what his newfound power could do. In front of him lay the Swordmaster scroll, and he wasn’t certain why, but he had a feeling it was very necessary that he read it now. Even though it was morning, the forest remained dim, and the scroll illuminated itself for him, the arcane symbols glowing faintly to bring him more ease of use. "Read me," they seemed to command. Raiden took a breath and did just that. He read the scroll out loud as best he could, the words strange and foreign on his tongue. Soon afterward, he seized his sword and did what he had just read.Panting, but with a determined glint in his eye, Raiden lowered the sword. "This is only the beginning," he muttered under his breath, already envisioning the untapped power deep inside him. His m
Shadows And Power Plays
CHAPTER 8: SHADOWS AND POWER PLAYSThe cold stone halls of the manor were illuminated by the flickering light of dark magic as Lady Morgana made her entrance, cape billowing behind her. In the air hung the heavy atmosphere of forbidden spells and age-old rituals. Among the assembly of dark magicians, one would be hard-pressed to find even a whisper of conversation, and for good reason, when Lady Morgana was around, attention was mandatory.Giovanni, the head of the dark magicians, stood at the center of the room and watched her with narrowed eyes. He'd never cared for Morgana's theatrical style, but she and his group had been sharing the same space for quite some time now, and their interaction had been mutually beneficial."Is it you again, Morgana?" Giovanni asked, his voice thick with distaste. "I thought the last chat we had sufficed for all future meetings."Morgana grinned, though her eyes didn't quite share in the humor. "You, as always, do protest too much, Giovanni. I come to
The Unexpected Visit
CHAPTER 9: THE UNEXPECTED VISITRaiden woke from fitful sleep, the secret training he shared with only a few trusted souls and the mysterious events of the day before pressing heavily on his mind. He ached all over from pushing the limits of his physical training just last night. But, as always, it was a good pain….a sign that he was breaking through and getting stronger. He was just starting to gain some momentum in that training, when...His eyes opened, and his heart nearly stopped at the sight of Lady Morgana seated in the chair opposite his bed. A cold, predatory gleam glinted in her eyes, and the faint, twisted smile on her lips suggested that she had only been waiting for him to regain consciousness.Raiden sat up as if propelled by some internal force, extending a leg from beneath the bedclothes, with one bare foot finding the floor and pushing him quickly to a stance. Sensing immediate danger, he demanded an explanation."What the hell are you doing in my room?"Morgana found
ECHOES OF THE PAST
CHAPTER 10 : ECHOES OF THE PASTRaiden fell into a deep sleep, filled with dreams, and he found himself as Flocki…..the strong war general he used to be. He found himself in his old life again, sitting in a dark tavern filled with the loud laughter and chatter of his fellow soldiers. The air smelled strong of ale, and there was a lot of laughter bouncing off the wooden walls. The fireplace crackled and gave off a cozy warmth. He sat back in his chair, holding a mug of ale, and listened to his men joking around."Hey General, do you think that woman from the village will show up tonight?" one of the younger soldiers asked, giving him a playful nudge with a grin.Flocki let out a big laugh. "If she knows what's good for her, she should avoid you guys." He took a big drink from his mug and shook his head slowly. "But if she doesn’t, it’s not my fault if she picks the most handsome guy around."A big, tough-looking warrior laughed and lifted his drink. "So, by the end of the night, she wi
