#21: I Hope You Die Alone
Adventurer was never a term that the Trial System used. That had come after the war. Trialists were the true term for the Terrans who had gained their powers through the Trial System. The real face of Trials were brutal, they tested bonds of friendship and encouraged mortals to break them for more power. The worst of the Instant Trials weren't supposed to be in the lower sectors. They always lurked in the highest areas, hidden deep away where the world couldn't judge them. Where the stakes were highest and mortals attempted to push their very limits. Sometimes, very rarely, they appeared in the lower sectors. Reminding the world that the Trial System had never cared for a peaceful world. 《You have entered an Instant Trial - Trial of the Prodigies Objective: Kill the [Vanguard] Reward: A letter grade increase in your final score for your Dominion. A unique soulbound sword.》 Rhys tried to dismiss the screen. It lingered in hi
#22: Trial of the Prodigies
He peeked through mostly closed eyes. Kael stepped closer, further than where he could have used [Cleave] on Rhys. He kept stepping in closer as Rhys cursed inwardly. The [Cleave] skill would have made the overall swing slower and would have let him avoid Kael's trump card. What psycho chooses to kill someone up close and personal instead of from far away? Kael stepped closer and lined up his swing to decapitate. A clean cut would cause less pain. Rhys stepped in, his enhanced speed blurring to grab the last knife strapped to his chest. He grabbed it with a reverse grip with his left hand, raising it high as he swung down wildly. His right hand went to grab the hilt of Kael's weapon. For the third time that day, the [Vanguard] was caught off guard by the [Infiltrator], and for the third time, Kael tried to step back while adjusting to block. For Rhys, that was three times too many.

#23: Her Aura Didn't Work
Rhys stared at the deathly pale [Arcanist]. He hadn't been completely sure it was her, but it was pretty obvious someone was fucking with him. He should have figured it out from the very start. Someone like Lirien wouldn't miscalculate Kael's strength. In hindsight, that should have been the first red flag. He flopped back, no longer holding his stump, just letting it bleed out. "Fuck you, Lirien, or whoever you are. If you're going to kill me, kill me already. I'm done playing your game." He wished he weren't so satisfied right now. A part of him felt vindicated that he'd beaten Kael. Tricks or not. He'd won. Lirien tutted. "And here I had a whole 'nother fight for you. I was going to do a big slow clap reveal too." "I said I'm done. Hurry up already." "Oh, fine." Instead of dying, two things flew at him. A sparkling red vial landed on his chest, and a severed hand landed
#24: That Piece Of Shit Screwed Me
Then the walls changed, no longer were they made of stone but simple dirt. The entire chamber had been an illusion. Just like the system screens and just like Lirien had been. There were limits to magic, illusion magic especially had been carefully mapped out. Rules established and countermeasures created. He just didn't have anything like it he could use to counter it right now."Abuse! Abuse!" Lirien yelled as she climbed out of the hole her body had made. She dusted herself off and shook her hair, dirt flying everywhere."Alright, what do you want me for?" Rhys asked."Me? The same thing I've always wanted. To help raise the next generation."She looked wistfully upwards, like an old heroine who hadn't just manipulated two of the younger generation into a deathmatch."Don't look at me like that." She snapped. "Not only was it not my idea, but you now have an earned soulweapon. It shouldn't hurt your achievements."It seemed to always wrap around to ach
#25: Can I Ask For A Favor?
《[Return to Terra Prime] initiated.5 minutes remaining.》A loud humming noise started emanating from Rhys's body. A sphere appeared in his vision, invisible to everyone else but him. If he moved out of it the skill would cancel. This was the way the Trial System ensured you were in a safe place before using the skill.Rhys's mind was stuck on a different issue, he ranted at Lirien while he waited."How is that any different from lying? How has this not been recorded?""Because the Arbiter does it rarely. Most people think they misunderstood the Arbiter and got it wrong themselves. The others get caught by my mother.""Of course they do.""Don't be so angry. You're still a Chosen with everything to gain. The Dominion is a beautiful place, terrifying in places, but it truly is better than Terra Prime in every way. Dinosaurs the size of mountains, floating islands large enough that when they collapse, they fall down with the force of a thousand nuclear warheads.""I know. I've seen the
#26: 7 Hours Left
The operation began with Clara throwing a barrage of words at Mrs Artisan."Hello Mrs Artisan! It's so good to see you again. Would you like to exchange Earthnet profiles? It might be helpful if you're not here and we're here and something happens and we need to contact you. If you don't have one, we can just exchange phone numbers."Rhys's mother had been waiting outside. She had left to let the trio of friends chat without her presence. Clara had gone out as bait, and his mother took it hook, line and sinker. She had been in an elated mood and saw a pretty girl who clearly cared for her son. They could hear the conversation from inside the room. Clara was, honestly, unnervingly good at acting. There was no difference between the way she talked to him and the way she talked when she tried to distract his mother. He narrowed his eyes, then shook his head. He was starting to get paranoid of everyone now."Oh my gosh, Rhys looks so cute swinging that stick around."

#27: Let's Shake On It?
"14C Morken street, wow." Milock commented. The area the old orc lived in had to have been one of the most run-down places Rhys had ever seen. The duo walked into the apartment block, and he knocked on the door. It was more of a tiny space sandwiched between two other tiny spaces.A gruff voice spoke from behind them."Well, at least I know you weren't planning on ambushing me."Both of them jumped. Rhys hadn't heard or seen the huge orc behind him at all. A bit embarrassing for an [Infiltrator], but that was an ex-eighth Dominion for you.Barry moved to open the door for them."Come in."The living room was quite a bit more spacious than he had expected, mostly because there wasn't much in the room. Just a couch, a TV and a small coffee table. Barry flicked his head towards his couch."Sit, I'll stay standing."Both the young men shrugged and listened to the host. The couch wasn't that big, there was no chance that all three of them would be able
#28: Return To The Dominion
Surprisingly, there wasn't much Barry could contribute to Rhys's game plan. The runt was better than expected. He already had concrete plans ready for how to hit most probable Trial scenarios. There were logical adaptations to being solo, and he could adapt on the fly. When he had tried to grill Rhys on some key issues, the boy had already thought of them and had his reasons why he wanted to do things his way. He knew so much. It was like he lived and breathed the Trials. For a moment, Barry wondered if all kids in his generation were like this. That thought only lasted until Milock opened his mouth and tried to contribute. He grunted and looked at the map of the First Sector."No comment on my plans?" Rhys asked him."Not much, looks like you've got most angles covered, hm, except one."Rhys tensed. Throughout the conversation, Barry had taken swings at him. They weren't supposed to land, just to keep the runt in a state of awareness and tension."What is it
#29: Activate The Teleport Scroll
Rhys rematerialized in the dirt cave. He summoned his soulsword and immediately attempted a [Twin Strike] at the smiling face of Lirien. His blade went through her face, her eyes widening as her image tried to dodge it anyway.《[Twin Strike] level up! [Twin Strike] level 3→4》Neat.Lirien didn't think the same, she rubbed at her face, annoyed. "Arbiter's blasted–well played, I was distracted.""[Parallel Thoughts] with some form of scrying skill both at Epic." He said.Every time that Lirien had been watching him was an illusion. She probably had multiple of her other selves running around in The Dominion doing as she pleased. Lirien did not look impressed at his skills of deduction."Hmph, no points for that. Actually, that's not fair. 90 points for the surprise, no points for your guesses.""Feels stingy."He felt more confident exchanging banter with the dragonslayer. As much as he didn't want to admit it, Barry was right. With the letter he had br
#30: No Time Like The Present
He stood up and dusted himself off. The moment he had seen the fourthers, he knew there'd be no point in running. So he did the only sensible thing and doubled down on the name-calling. Lirien seemed to agree with the decision as she materialized next to him."Honestly, I'm impressed, the way you taunted 'em. Throwing me and Kael under the bus, now that was inspired."Rhys didn't even glance at the [Arcanist]. "Don't know what you mean, I just told the truth."He started jogging. Hopefully, he'd enter a leveled zone before anything else happened. Lirien floated next to him, lying back in the air and looking at her nails."Yes, and by making Patrick so furious, you gave me a better opening than I could ask for. He has family on Terra Prime. He won't reenter The Dominion and become Dominionbound with his last life."Rhys slowed, she wasn't trying to pin the blame on him, was she? "You would've killed him anyway, you could've just sniped him with a [Magebolt] or som
