1. The event (1)
“Please, I did not murder him, you have to believe me!” Owen cried, his voice cutting through the air in the grand hall. It was filled with people dressed in magnificent clothes, sparkling shoes, and gems from all across the globe, but he? He was dressed in rags.“You don’t understand. I was framed, officer!” he begged, but the cops already had the handcuffs in place and dragged him across the hall toward the exit. Behind them, a group of paramedics carried a body wrapped in white cloth, stained with blood, while the guests watched with horror written all over their faces. They knew the truth. They knew Owen was innocent, but no one wanted to say it.ONE HOUR EARLIERIn the dormitory at Brightson College, a young man dressed in a green, patched-up shirt and worn-out jeans sat across the room, lost in a handcraft. His roommates chattered behind him, gossiping about how the notorious college playboy, Brad Lutherson, was going to publicly propose to the all-charming prom queen, Valentine
2. The event (2)
Owen hailed a taxi, fuming with anger all the way to Tulips Hall. Upon arriving at the entrance of the garden where the hall was situated, he was dazzled by the magnificence of the venue. The size, the glamour, the decorations, and most annoyingly, the large portrait at the front with a picture of Brad and Val together as a couple, with a message underneath: Happy Birthday, Val.Owen’s blood boiled. The hall was just up ahead, and without further ado, he strode toward the secured entrance like a tyrant.“Where do you think you’re going?” one of the security guards stopped him. “This event is exclusive to Brightston College students only, especially those not dressed in rags.”The guard sized Owen up and down. Even Owen glanced at himself. He was too upset to care what he was wearing at the moment, but it was too late now.“I just want to see someone,” Owen said. “I’ll be out of here soon. I don’t intend to stay.”“I said it’s for college students only—”“I heard that,” Owen interjecte
3. The system
In less than ten minutes, the police and paramedics arrived on the scene. They recognized Brad immediately, as they were well acquainted with his family. Shocked to see him in that condition, they asked what had happened. “Owen killed him,” Valentine was the first to respond. “We all saw it. He came into the party just to kill Brad, and Brad did nothing to him.” Although she lied, everyone agreed with her, nodding their heads and even making side comments. “He just came to crash the party, and Brad simply tried to stop him. Look at how he’s dressed, you’d know we’re telling the truth.” By that point, the paramedic crew had already wrapped Brad in a white cloth and placed him on a wheeled stretcher. They said nothing. Was he dead? Unconscious? Or just severely injured? They didn’t say. Instead, they quickly rolled Brad out of the hall while the cops grabbed Owen and slapped handcuffs onto his wrists. “I did not murder him, you have to believe me,” Owen tried to explain, but the cop
4. The fight
“This cannot be real,” he thought to himself as he felt a surge of electric current run through his veins without pain. Before he could even take a step forward, footsteps echoed down the corridor. It was the same man who had punched him, laughed when he was dragged across the floor, and forced him to write those false statements.“What the...” The cop froze when he saw that the cell was open and Owen was already outside. Still, he didn’t flinch. It was obvious he believed he could handle Owen on his own without backup, so he rushed forward.Owen moved involuntarily. “Whoa!” He hadn’t expected that.[ Endurance stabilized ]His legs moved before his mind caught up. His muscles felt tighter, and his neck snapped to the side just as the cop barked, “Stop right there! Where do you think you’re going?”The officer reached for his baton, closing the distance between them in seconds while Owen stepped aside just in time.“Too slow,” Owen mocked, slamming his tight fist into the officer’s ch

[ First Task Completed! ][ Accumulated EXP: 40 ][ Strength: Permanently increased by 2% ][ Skill unlocked: Combat Awareness – Basic ]Owen leaned against a wall in a dark alley, gasping for breath. While the results were displayed on the system’s screen, a sharp vibration came from his pocket.“But… the cops took my phone, didn’t they?” he wondered. With an eyebrow raised, Owen pulled his phone from his pocket. It had magically reappeared, to say the least. He stared at the screen as a notification blinked.Bank Alert!Deposit Received: $1,000,000His eyes widened, and his smile broadened. He had never seen such a huge amount deposited into his account before. His mind raced, new clothes, a better place to live, maybe even continuing his education without stress. Girls would like him now. Even if it was for the money, who cared? But for now, he needed to leave the area before the cops caught up with him.Owen walked as far as he could, hailed a taxi, and got off at a hotel. It wasn

[ Combat Awareness Awakened ][ Threat Assessment ][ Robber #1: Gun in hand — Primary Threat ][ Robber #2: Tall, carrying the bag — Slow reaction speed ][ Robber #3: Lean, knife visible at waistband — Aggressive temperament ][ Survival Probability: Direct Charge (14%) | Disruption Strategy (61%) ]Owen clenched his fists, staring the gunman straight in the eye. He wanted to question how the system knew so much about the robbers, but he pushed that thought aside. Right now, he had to focus on fighting and winning.“You got a death wish? I said get on the floor, now!” the gunman barked, pointing his weapon loosely at Owen. The cashier gasped.“No, please don’t,” she cried, her voice cracking. She turned to Owen and hissed through clenched teeth, “Get on the floor!”Owen ignored her. How could he trust someone who had tried to trap him?“Look,” he said, stepping closer to the gunman. His heart raced, but he forced it down, reminding himself that the system wouldn’t let anything happe
7. I know you
[ Task Completed ] [ Accumulated EXP: 40 ] [ Total EXP: 80 ] [ Strength: 4% permanently increased ] [ Endurance: 2% permanently increased ] [ Reward: $10,000,000 ] Owen woke up slowly to the system’s display. He wasn’t sure how long he had been unconscious, but he was certain of one thing—ten million dollars was a lot of money. “Damn… I’m rich,” he muttered. There was no time to imagine everything he could do with it, not when he couldn’t recognize where he was. The mattress beneath him was soft, and the air smelled fresh—nothing like the cheap hotel he had intended to book. His gaze swept across the room. It was elegant, with a cute chandelier hanging above. It looked like it belonged to a wealthy princess. Whose room is this? he wondered. Then his eyes landed on a framed photo on the wall, and realization struck. He remembered the fight, the speed, the bullets and the way she had screamed. Now he was lying in her room, on her bed. “The cashier?” Owen whispered, stunned.
8. This is power
Owen woke up to silence. The drive through the night had been very long, and he genuinely had not trusted the man he was in the car with, but the system had insisted that he stayed until they arrived at what appeared to be an estate. Through the gate, he had been greeted by a luxurious mansion, guided inside the building by a security guard, and then a maid had led him to the room where he had spent the night. The ceiling above him when he woke was elegant; he had not quite taken in the scene the night before. The windows were draped with silk curtains, and the wooden floor glistened in its polished state. Just before he sat up, there was a slight knock on the door before it opened without a sound. “Good morning, Mr. Owen. I trust you slept well?” the man who stepped in said with a slight bow. He was tall, elderly, and dressed in a black suit with white gloves. His gesture was calm and professional, and Owen seemed to recognize him from the night before. “You served me tea l
9. Probability of Trap
Owen felt uneasy after his conversation with Hudson. He managed to eat breakfast without choking, but even after returning to the room, the weight of Hudson’s words crashed down on him. The silence in the mansion only made things worse than they already were.He stood alone in the guest room, staring at his reflection in the tall mirror, thinking about a deal that could either change his life or ruin it entirely. Accepting the challenge was one thing, but accomplishing the mission was another. Brad was the heir of an influential family, and he? Well, all he had was eleven million dollars in his name, which was nothing compared to the Luthersons’ worth. Not yet, at least.“So,” he muttered, dragging a hand down his face, “now you’re just quiet, huh?”[Sovereign Reclamation System – Active][Initializing Task Clarification Protocol]Owen exhaled deeply. Finally, he was going to get the explanation he needed. “Good,” he said, walking back to the bed and staring at the blue holographic sc
