CHAPTER 11
Kael struggled to maintain his stance as the ground shook violently and his heart raced. “Marcus!” He cried, still not wanting to let go. It was still a shock to him that they actually left him here.“Lynna! Please! Don't do this to me!”But he got no response. The cold thick sound of the massive gates echoed loudly and shook me further. Goose bumps prickled his skin, and his heart froze. The constant rattling of the crystals that sealed the gates roared and his head pounded harder with aches. He saw death staring him right in the face and the thought of being disassembled, piece by piece sent cold shivers down his spine. His eyes scanned through the darkness closing in and his fist clenched. His jaw tightened as he maintained his stance, but the ground quaked with a force that overwhelmed him and threw him down to the ground. In that brief second, his poor life flashed before him. A short reflection of the last twenty-four hours projected before him.He remembered Lyanna’s warm tou
CHAPTER 12
The darkness slowly brightened, and before the ground was a wounded soul, lying somewhat peacefully, floating in the void. His skin looked torn apart, more like it was joined together by some glue. His eyes flipped open and he stood up sharply, and fear enveloped him immediately. He scanned the area, noticing he wasn't standing on anything, just floating in an empty void. His heart raced hard against the slow-moving objects here, and everything seemed blurry before him.“How am I alive?” He asked himself, his face pale. “I'm supposed to be dead, right?”He took a careful look at himself and his face twisted into disgust. He just realised he looked like some pieces of bones glued together.“Where am I?” He screamed loudly into the void, but all he got was echoes from the emptiness. “Where am I?” He was unrelenting and still screamed, hoping maybe someone, maybe someone else, trapped in this hell as it seemed may reach out.“Hello?!” “Anyone here! Where am I?!”He wiggled himself, st
CHAPTER 13
His eyes flipped open and immediately scanned his surroundings. He was clad in silk, top tender and warm.Wrapped perfectly well in soft clothes, he was kept to rest in a cradle in a room. The interiors were decorated with fine lined golden artifacts and very spacious. The air around him was smooth and warm, unlike what he had always known. His consciousness was still intact ans he knew he was alive but now in a different body. The goddess appeared suddenly before him and he jerked softly.“Child,” she called proudly, caressing his skin softly.“I don't like it here!” He begged, but she chuckled softly and vanished, but he words echoed across the room.“The journey begins here…”He tried to scream after she left, but his voice was a sharp contrast to what he had always known. He was crying like an infant, and this was when it dawned on him that he was actually an infant. The door flung open and a woman, clad in royal blue apparel rushed in, alongside a company of maids and a with a cur
CHAPTER 14
6 months later The morning sun was radiant and glowing on his skin. Standing outside was Kael, stronger and better than before. His skin was tough like that of a lion and his hunger for revenge burned like a gas flame. His moves on the field were ecstatic, more like he was guided by the earth, and each swing carried grit. His eyes were hot red as he whispered the words of the shadow magic softly. The leaves rustled softly as Lady Morrigan moved graciously on the soft grass with a bright smile on her lips.“My warrior,” she chuckled softly and swung her hand quickly. A magical essence, accompanied by an ethereal white beam, blinded him, and his scythe left his hand, and he flew like the wind and dropped to the ground. He groaned softly, but she floated in the air and approached him, her face etched with concern. Her hands reached for his shoulder and caressed him softly.“You're doing great,” she commended and pulled him back to his feet. “But you still need to work on your defence.”
CHAPTER 15
Indeed, the air was peaceful as he sat back at home now, his legs crossed and his face glowing with elegance. His mind raced with thoughts as he sat and he stood up sharply, pacing around the room endlessly, his fingers snapping at intervals.Just then, the door opens and his heart skipped a beat. He was about to unmask his scythe when his mother's face shone in his face.“Mom?” He smiled. “Quite a surprise?” She walked over to him, ignoring the tease and sat calmly on the bed.“Come here.” Her face was stern and now, he wondered what might have happened. He stared at her for a bit, her eyes scanning him thoroughly and he raised an eyebrow. She finally smiled, patting his shoulder softly.“You said you saw a lady, tell me about her?” He forced a huge lump down his throat as the question hit him almost too suddenly. However, he turned to her, smiling sheepishly and explained to her. Thankfully, he was able to cook up a very interesting lie and rambled about her beauty. But Lady Morri
CHAPTER 16
For days, he had been searching the underworld for the perfect person in the crime zone to handle this case for him. He has gotten books from the family archive, and they were lyingon the bed wide open as he ran his eyes through them. But one name was prominent in all of them.“Elira Nightshade…”Just then, the door flung open and his mom stormed in.“Did I just hear Elira Nightshade…” she queried, her face stern.“Uhm.” She quickly rushed over, took a look at the books, and turned to him coldly.“You've been studying about the Nightshades?” She raised an eyebrow.“Uhm…I…”She took a seat beside him now and stared. “It's just a little research mom, nothing serious. And besides, if you had told me about them when I asked you before, I wouldn't be studying about them.”She stared at him coldly and a sigh escaped her lips.“Alright, drop those books. They'll mislead you, I'll tell you about them, but one condition?”He smiled warmly and nodded.“You'll stop obsessing about them!”“Sure

Joran’s eyes narrowed as he stared blankly into the void of the night. His hand trembled violently as he held fast to the now crumpled letter, just as if his life depended on it. His soul was ravaged with thoughts that he didn't have the answers to. His teeth gnashed mercilessly and he was a shadow of himself.Working as a respectable court mage now, the shock of the blood letter left him dazed. In his hand was a bottle of wine, and he gulped it down his throat, the latter escaping from the corners of his lips.He had spent the whole night awake, staring at the letter, after the horrific way he found it. Asleep a few minutes ago, a loud cry by a thousand voices he quickly recognised—shadows called his name and told him he had been marked. There was no reason why, how, or who was behind it, but when he got hold of the letter, all his questions were answered. Reality dawned on him and he now understood that this was more trouble than he could ever imagine. With another sip, he muttered.
CHAPTER 18
“Kael, how are you alive?” He choked, his voice pale.Kael’s fist tightened, and the magical grip on Joran's neck tightened too, leaving him gasping for breath and begging for mercy. The air around him now felt heavy with guilt and it still felt surreal, seeing Kael alive.“But how?”He was still in shock, and not just that, wondering how Kael had suddenly grown stronger than him. “Who ordered the hit?!” He didn't hesitate another second and went straight ahead to the matter on the ground. But Joran tried to evade the questions, using silly gestures that he couldn't speak and Kael finally let go.The sound of his thudding and the vibration of the ground disturbed the peace of the night, followed by the release of energy he threw immediately at Kael. But with a finger snap, it vanished, and Joran's eyes widened. He immediately dropped to his feet as Kael advanced now, screaming and begging for mercy. The power imbalance between them was now clear. Kael was no longer the poor warrior b
CHAPTER 19
Kael is sitting in his room now, reeling from the shock of the news. His legs were crossed as he stared blankly and clearly confused and the air around was thick with rage, dampening his confusion the more. The chaos didn't make sense to him. Of course, he knew Joran was a fool and a coward, but he wouldn't lie in such a situation, except he would.Just then, his door creaked open and Lady Morrigan walked in. She wrapped her arms around him and kissed him softly. She immediately sensed the tension burning in his body, by this time of the night and for days now, he has seemed off.“Kael, what's the matter?” Her voice was low and calm. “It's past bedtime, and yours is still up here, worrying? What's bothering you?”He looked away now, unable to face her, he knew he couldn't tell her this, and he didn't know what to tell her now either.“Is it the maiden you found at the Royal gala?” She raised an eyebrow Perfect, he quickly grabbed the opportunity now as she had tilted in that directi
CHAPTER 20
Elira's eyes widened as Kael stood up again, the shadow magic burning like flames on his bare body. He turned sharply and stared at the warrior. With a finger snap, he vanished into thin air.The rest were stunned, folding their arms in confusion and pure ecstasy. However, with a warm smile, he turned to Elira, whose breath shuddered now.“Let's go.” He said, his voice firm and fearless.Together, they loved slowly, walking as if they owned the palace and the darkness consumed the whole place, this time, thicker and stronger.“Where is the library?” He asked Elira. She scanned the area softly and pointed to the left.Just then, a soft whiz passed through them, it was a blade…Joran's blade and Elira's eyes widened. They narrowly escaped, but Kael remained calm and drew the sword back to himself with shadow magic, and it burned like mere metal, which he added to his scythe.Elira, this time, froze at such immense power; she was dazed at how a shadow warrior could destroy the sword of a
