CHAPTER 1
Seven years. That was how long the world Richard Carter had been gone. No one, not even the doctors and nurses who passed his room every day believed he would ever open his eyes again. They had already labeled him as the man trapped between life and death. But on a rainy Thursday night, as the moonlight shone through the half-drawn blinds of Ward C14, Richard’s eyes opened faintly. The heart monitor reacted instantly, beeping in a rapid rhythm. The nurses that had been assigned to the morning rounds, froze mid-conversation when they saw movement from the bed."He's moving," The first nurse muttered. "He's back."The second nurse glared hard, thinking her eyes were playing tricks on her. "No, that’s impossible. This man has been in a coma for seven years now.”But Richard moved again, this time lifting his hand weakly to his chest.“He’s waking up! Go get the doctor!” The first nurse cried. Her assistant bolted out of the room while she approached the bed cautiously, as though Richa
CHAPTER 2
It was a few minutes past 8 a.m. and President Andrew Garlick sat behind his polished desk, flipping through a stack of classified folders, his mind lost in the mess of national issues he needed to address before noon.He had just concluded an important meeting on national security with his Chief of Staff and he was still considering his next line of action when his private phone rang. For a minute, he stared at the number on the screen. Very few people had access to his private line. His fingers trembled slightly as he picked up the call.“This is President Garlick,” he said, “Good morning, Andrew," Richard answered. “I'm pretty sure you can remember me.”The president shot up from his chair so fast it toppled backward and crashed against the floor. His heartbeat erupted like drums inside his chest.“Richard?” his voice cracked with disbelief. “Is this really you?"“I see you haven’t changed," Richard said with a chuckle. "Still so quick to panic."President Garlick placed a hand
CHAPTER 3
Richard stood at the end of the quiet street and stared across at the small cream-colored house. It was the exact address that the president had given him. For a moment, he just stood there holding the bouquet of flowers and unsure why he felt nervous. Maybe it was because he knew he was walking into the unknown, something he always approached with caution. As he stepped closer toward the garden, he noticed a little boy kneeling in the grass, and pushing a toy truck back and forth. The kid was humming, completely lost in his own world. Richard paused as he didn’t want to scare the child. But then the little boy suddenly looked up and their eyes met.The boy squinted as if studying him. Then before Richard could turn away or pretend he wasn’t staring, the boy stood, dusted his shorts, and walked straight toward him.Richard straightened. Something about children always made him alert. Kids were unpredictable in their own innocent way.The boy stopped in front of him and tilted his hea
CHAPTER 4
The night of the End-of-Year Gala arrived with the same pressure that always followed high-status events in the city. It was the kind of night where old money, new power, and hungry eyes all gathered under one roof pretending to admire art and charity while secretly studying each other’s bank accounts, outfits, and relevance. The event was being held at the Ambassador Grand Hall - white marble floors, tall glass pillars, golden chandeliers hanging across the ceiling. Richard knew the place all too well because he had been there a couple times for some events. The paparazzi were already lined up outside when a sleek black sports car rolled to a slow stop at the front entrance.A hush fell over the place and heads turned. Cameras swung instantly toward the new arrival and the next minute, Richard stepped out of the car.The flash of cameras exploded and everyone gaped at him in shock. He looked effortlessly regal in a perfectly tailored black tuxedo. The suit hugged his broad shoulders
CHAPTER 5
Isabella’s earlier fury evaporated the instant she saw Michelle and her face lit up with excitement, and a sense of relief.“Oh my God,” she breathed, grabbing Mandy’s arm. “Thank God the boss is here.”Mandy grinned. “Yes of course. It's time to give that broke loser what he deserves."The two women hurried forward, stopping directly in front of Richard and the security guards that were prepared to throw him out.Michelle’s eyes swept across the room, assessing every other person in the crowd before she turned her attention back to Richard. He stood there, tall and composed despite the attention. Two security guards flanked him, their hands hovering near his arms but not quite touching him. She already knew something was wrong but before she could make a move, Isabella reached her first.“Lady Michelle!” Isabella exclaimed in feigned excitement and threw her arms around her boss in a dramatic hug. “I’m so glad you came!”Michelle merely smiled at her."Of course. It’s a very importa
CHAPTER 6
The whole hall went silent immediately. Isabella could not believe what she was hearing. Her ears rang, her heart began to beat frantically and for several long seconds, she could do nothing but stare. Husband! The word repeated itself over and over in her brain, still refusing to make sense. Her gaze moved from Michelle to Richard and then to Marty, who stood ever so protectively in front of him.Isabella couldn’t even form a sentence. Her lips parted, but nothing came out. Her thoughts were tangled, clashing violently with one another. Richard was married to Michelle Donovan? The powerful CEO? The woman everyone feared and admired? It was absurd. It was simply impossible. It had to be some sick joke. Isabella’s nails dug into her palms as she tried to calm herself and make sense of the situation.Mandy was the first to break the silence. She frowned, her sharp eyes narrowing. “Hold on,” she said, her voice loud enough to draw attention. “This doesn’t add up at all.” She gestured
CHAPTER 7
Isabella clenched her fists so hard that her perfectly manicured nails dug into her palms. The humiliation she had tried to pour on Richard had backfired in the craziest way possible and now she stood in the center of it all, shaking with rage and disbelief.“This is ridiculous,” she snapped. “Whatever nonsense you did to her, whatever voodoo or trick you used on Michelle, it won’t last.” She laughed bitterly. “She’ll wake up soon and realize what kind of trash she married.”“That’s enough,” Michelle snapped. The murmurs died instantly and she faced Isabella.“I have tolerated your insults long enough,” Michelle continued. “And I will not allow anyone, no matter how valuable they think they are, to insult my husband under my roof.”Isabella scoffed. “I'm your biggest model. He's just a loser leeching off your wealth."Michelle nodded slowly.“Well, in that case you are no longer needed at GLAM.” Isabella froze. "What?" “You’re fired!”A sharp gasp echoed through the crowd. Several

The murmurs in the hall grew louder the moment Chris finished speaking.Everyone in that room knew who Chris Washington was. He was not a man who made empty threats. When Chris Washington said he would ruin something, it usually happened within minutes. The guests exchanged uneasy glances. Some shook their heads slowly while others leaned closer, whispering about how bad the situation was for MichelleIn all their gossip, most of them were certain of one thing - Michelle Donovan would reinstate Isabella. She had to. GLAM was her life’s work. After years of building connections, nurturing talent and fighting her way to the top of the modelling industry, there was no way she would let her loyalty to one man, no matter how much she loved him, to destroy everything she had built.Isabella stood tall again, confidence returning to her posture. Her lips curved into a small, satisfied smile as she waited for Michelle to do the sensible thing. But Michelle did not seem to panic.Just then, th
